Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA)

The ‘Indian Radiological Association’ took its birth in 1931 in Calcutta with late Dr. Ajit Mohan Bose as founder President and Dr. Subodh Mitra as founder Secretary. The first meeting was held on 21st April, 1931 in Calcutta and Capt. M. Mukherjee, Dr. K.B. Ghosh and Dr. Moitra attended the meeting. In April 1932, the Eighth session of Indian Medical Association was held and the

Maharashtra State Branch of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (MSBIRIA) is one of the most vibrant branches of the IRIA, and has the honor of having many Past Presidents in our midst. It has its own office at Saki Naka, Mumbai and conducts its own State Meetings as well as its annual State Conference.

Indian Radiological Association met as the Radiological section of I.M.A. under the chairmanship of Dr. M.D. Joshi and during his speech, Dr. Joshi stressed the need for sound radiological education in India. In 1934, once again the radiologists met at a sectional meeting of the Conference of IMA, held at Bombay with Dr. K. P. Mody in the Chair.

The first Annual Congress of Radiology was held in 1946 at Madras under the President-ship of Dr. M.D. Joshi and Secretary Dr. P. Rama Rao. At that time there were 130 members of the association. Gradually, there was extension of the Association to other states and a wide network of state branches and chapters was formed. The previous conference of IRIA was held at Jaipur in January 2017.

Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR)

The 1960’s brought on a growing awareness of the need to develop closer relationships between radiologists across the various nations of Asia and Oceania. Providing opportunities to learn from one another, the collaboration of the nations would contribute towards further fostering both regional and international ties. The first meeting of Asian and Oceanian Regional Radiologists was held in Japan on 11 October 1969, and it was here that the formation of the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR) begun. 2011 marked the 40th anniversary of AOSR, which is now made up of 23 member societies comprising of Bangladesh Society of Radiology and Imaging, Chinese Society of Radiology, Chinese Taipei Society of Radiology, College of Radiology Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, Fiji Radiology, Hong Kong College of Radiologists, Indian Radiology and Imaging Association (IRIA), Indonesian Radiological Society, Japan Radiological Society, Korean Society of Radiology, Macau Radiology Association, Mongolian Radiological Society, Nepal Radiologists’ Association, Philippine College of Radiology, Radiological Society of Pakistan, Radiologist Ministry of Health Tonga, Royal College of Radiology of Thailand, Samoa Society of Radiology, Singapore Radiological Society, Sri Lanka College of Radiologists, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, Uzbekistan Radiology Society and Vietnam Society of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

Objectives:

• To stimulate basic and clinical research to advance the development of radiology.• To improve the quality and technique of radiological procedures and to improve members’

skills in this respect.• To stimulate interest in and to provide guidelines for the practice, teaching and post-graduate

training in radiology.• To facilitate the exchange of scientific information.• In furtherance of the above mentioned objectives, the Society may organize congresses,

courses, lectures and co-operate with other scientific organizations

ABout mumBAIMumbai which was formerly known as Bombay is a major metropolitan city of India. It is the state capital of Maharashtra. Mumbai city is known as the business capital of India, it being the country’s principal financial and communications centre. It is the most populous city in India, and the fourth most populous city in the world, with a total metropolitan area population of approximately 20.5 million. Along with the neighbouring urban areas, including the cities of Navi Mumbai and Thane, it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world.

Most of the year, Mumbai’s climate is warm and humid. Between November and February, the skies are clear, and the temperature is cooler. From March the temperature becomes warm and humid till mid June, the beginning of monsoon. Monsoon ends by the end of September.

Mumbai’s culture is a blend of traditional festivals, food, music and theatres. The city offers a cosmopolitan and diverse lifestyle with a variety of food, entertainment and night life, available in a form and abundance comparable to that in other world capitals. This unique blend of cultures is due to the migration of people from all over India since the British period. The description about Mumbai cannot be complete without the mention of Bollywood, the biggest Indian film industry which churns out hundreds of Hindi block-busters every year.

Mumbai is well connected by Road, Rail and Airways. It boasts of one of the busiest airports in the Country. Mumbai has one International and One Domestic Airport that offer direct connectivity to almost all major cities.
