My Life: 2012-2013

In preparation for full retirement, I moved to Sapporo（札幌） in September, 2012. Welcomed by record-breaking snow accumulation for the first winter . Also welcomed by Maruyama group, fabulous people meeting almost every day at sunrise on top of Maruyama, the spiritual mountain near my home （円山: 史跡名勝天然記念物）. Enjoyed “Sapporo White Illumination” and “Snow Festival”. Challenged visiting Rikubetsu（陸別）, “The Coldest Town in Japan”, in January. Had a Short Trip to Tsurui Village（阿寒鶴居村）, “The Home of Tancho-zuru” (丹 頂 鶴、Red-crowned Crane) , in March.

This is my picture diary (胡蝶の夢） for the first winter in Sapporo.

胡蝶の夢 老いて陸別に移住しその地の開拓に生涯を終えた蘭医学者関寛斎翁の歌、 “憂き事に久しく耐ふる人あらば 共に眺めんキトウスの月” 司馬遼太郎は関翁の精神を「胡蝶の夢 」に思想している。 司馬は何処に荘周の夢をみたのであろうか？ （荘周） “不知周之夢為胡蝶与、胡蝶之夢為周与” （関翁の絶筆） “身は消えて心はうつるキトウスと 十勝石狩両嶽の間” “キト-ウス”はアイヌ語で“行者ニンニク-ある”。 その名の山は北海道にいくつかあるが、寛斎翁の詠ったそれは現陸別町の西方，斗満川上流に位置する“喜登牛山”（標高１３１２ｍ）と思われる。 また十勝および石狩嶽はそれぞれ現在の阿寒および大雪山系をさしたものであろう。 （陸別道の駅前にある関寛斎翁の碑）
