Nature and landscape protection is defined as ”the prevention and limitation of impacts which endanger, damage or destroy life conditions and forms, natural heritage and landscape features, decrease its ecological stability, as well as the removal of the results of these impacts. Nature protection is also defined as the care of ecosystems.”

– § 2, part 2, of Act of the Parliament of the Slovak Republic SR No. 287/1994 Col. on Nature and Landscape Protection

LEVELS of PROTECTIONLEVELS of PROTECTIONWhole country is since 1994 divided in the following 5

levels of protection:

1st level of protection– country-wide, applied with regulation of 15 specified

activities and other preventive measures (the whole SR territory)

– 2nd level of protection– with regulation of further 14 specified activities

(particularly in the Protected Landscape Areas - PLA and Protective Zones of National Parks)
