Map of Congo
Congo, also known informally Congo - Brazzaville, officially the
Republic of Congo is a central African country, located on either side of the equator. Its neighbors are Gabon, Cameroon, Central
African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo - which it is separated, in part, by the Congo River and the Ubangi - and
Cabinda (Angola). The country stretches over 1300 km from north to south, the Atlantic Ocean to the CAR border. The
Republic of Congo is often called Congo - Brazzaville to distinguish it from the other Congo, officially called the
Democratic Republic of Congo, also known as Congo - Kinshasa. She also bore the name of People's Republic of Congo
from 1969 to 1992.

History Ancient history
The Mbuti Pygmies are the original inhabitants of Congo. The
country was then hit by the great migration of Bantu came from the north along the coast and rivers. Several successive
kingdoms, of which it is not yet familiar with the origins: the kingdom Teke south in the land; Kongo several kingdoms on the
coast and in the mountains of Mayombe. Bantu introducing iron working and building a sales network in the Congo Basin.
Colonization
The first contact with Europeans took place in the fifteenth century, and trade quickly established with local kingdoms. The coastal region is a major source for trafficking of transatlantic slavery. When it expires in the nineteenth century, the Bantu Authorities are eroding giving way to colonialism. In 1482, after the first surveys conducted by Portuguese navigators, Don Diego Cao explorer reached the mouth of the Congo. Contacts with the Kingdom of Kongo raise tensions. Trafficking operates a large demographic toll and greatly destabilizing political entities and central African societies in general.
The Franco-Italian explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza.

Road to independence
In 1926, André Matsoua founded a friendly responsible for assisting skirmishers (veterans who participated with the
French Army in the First World War). The harsh operating conditions of the colony (see Congo-Ocean Railway) explain that
nationalism is quickly developed in the Congo. This quickly becomes a friendly protest, the colonial administration gets
scared and jailed Matsoua, who died in prison in 1942, remained in dark conditions. The movement is transformed into
a church that recruits mostly in their ethnic group.
Geography
The Republic of Congo is located in Central Africa. The
neighboring countries are Gabon (West), Cameroon (North-West), Angola and Cabinda enclave (South), Central African
Republic (North) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC). The Congo River, the second largest river in the world by
average flow after the Amazon, forms part of the border between the Republic of Congo and DRC.
Rainforest covers nearly two-thirds of the territory of the Republic of Congo2, making it the fifth country in the world by
the proportion of forest cover. The equator crosses the Congo; passing through the city of
Makoua in the Cuvette region, is represented by a terminal. The country has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean with a length of
220 km.

while the third largest city, Dolisie, reached just 100 000 inhabitants. The urban fabric is very dense, with a dozen cities
