Qualitative Research in Political Science (4 volume edition 2016) Joachim K. Blatter - Univeristy of Lucerne, Switzerland Markus Haverland - Erasmus University Rotterdam Merlijn v. Hulst - Tilburg University In recent years there has been an explosion of research on qualitative methodology and methods in the social sciences at large, and in the field of Political Science in particular. This Major Work presents a comprehensively curated collection of key literature on this subject, organised into four thematic volumes: Volume One includes papers on the ontological and epistemological foundations of qualitative research, before moving onto articles that compare qualitative with quantitative research, as well as statements that contrast the divergent strands within qualitative research. Volume Two includes literature that exemplifies the tradition and techniques of cross-case comparisons. Volume Three is devoted to the spectrum of approaches that focuses on within-case analysis in order to provide evidence for causal claims. The selected works shed light on the corresponding major concepts: causal mechanisms, congruence and process tracing. Volume Four captures the spectrum of qualitative methods that highlights the importance of context and social constructions (meanings) and is most often summed up as interpretivism: ethnographic and practice approaches as well as discourse, frame and narrative analysis.

Adrian Vatter (2016): Das politische System der Schweiz, 2., aktualisierte Auflage Die Schweiz gilt in vielerlei Hinsicht als Vorzeige-, aber auch als Sonderfall einer funktionierenden Demokratie. Adrian Vatter erläutert nicht nur die wichtigsten politischen Institutionen wie Konkordanz, direkte Demokratie und Föderalismus, sondern auch bisher wenig untersuchte Bereiche wie das Wahlsystem und die Justiz. Er analysiert das politische System im internationalen Vergleich und verfolgt den Wandel durch die letzten Jahrzehnte.

Romain Felli (2016): La Grande Adaptation: Climat, capitalisme et catastrophe Nous sommes entrés dans l’ère de l’adaptation. Dès les années 1970, certains plaidaient déjà pour une « adaptation » des sociétés aux changements climatiques plutôt que pour de coûteuses réductions d’émissions de gaz à effet de serre. Aujourd’hui, derrière la façade des sommets environnementaux, la réalité est celle d’un climat et d’écosystèmes qui se dérèglent, préparant une régression des conditions d’habitation humaine de la Terre. Sociétés, territoires, individus sont désormais sommés de « s’adapter » à ces transformations inexorables. L’auteur nous fait comprendre comment, au lieu de contribuer à la solidarité et à la sécurité sociale et de résister aux conséquences de ces changements, le capitalisme utilise le choc climatique pour étendre le pouvoir du marché au nom de l’adaptation. La catastrophe : un nouveau business ?

Marc Bühlmann and Jan Fivaz (eds.): Political Representation. Roles, representatives and the represented Series: Routledge Research on Social and Political Elites This book provides new insights on political representation. It is guided by three questions: what roles should representatives play? Who is actually or should be represented? How are the representatives (or how should they be) connected with the represented? Containing contributions from the perspectives of political theory and philosophy, as well as quantitative empirical studies, the volume demonstrates the need to adapt these established questions to new political realities.
