LEPHALALE - Die Boskroeg se Jaarlikse Potfees het verlede Saterdag groot aftrek gekry. Enige onderneming of persone kon inskryf vir die potjiekoskompetsie, om te wys wie ‘n bobaaspot kan maak.
Die Beste Pot-toekenning het gegaan aan Pieter van Zyl en sy span. One Stop Truck Repairs het ‘n tweede plek behaal en derde was Francois Taljard en sy span. Die Beste Stalletjie-toekenning het gegaan aan Amrie Embroidery, met Claudias Thomas (foto links) en Nelis Janse van Rensburg se span wat ‘n toekenning vir Beste Spangees ontvang het.
Verskeie aktiwiteite het die dag volgemaak: Boeresport en vermaak deur kunstenaars soos Joe F, MarNet, Karlien Husselman en Anton Botha. Leone Illingworth is as Mej. Potfees aangewys terwyl Julien Small as eerste prinses gekroon is. Ilze Human is as tweede prinses aangewys.
C&M Events het gehelp om die dag te koördineer. Boskroeg eienaar, Jurgens van Rensburg bedank as die borge en die publiek vir hul ondersteuning.
MOKOPANE - Inwoners van die dorp het hierdie week hul harte oopgemaak

A green challenge issued by councillorMOKOPANE - On Tuesday councillor Beyers Smit of the Democratic Alliance called on Mogalakwena municipality to place more focus on economic growth and job creation within its jurisdiction by investing in LED projects related to recycling.

LEPHALALE - One person died and six people were seriously injured when their vehicle overturned on the new Vaalwater road on Monday afternoon. According to Warrant officer Frans Mokoena, all seven passengers were taken to Ellisras hospital where one of the patients died later that evening.

In a separate incident a man was killed in a collision involving a Toyota Yaris and a truck on Nelson Mandela avenue. According to eyewitnesses the driver of the Toyota Yaris overtook a bus when it collided head on with the truck.
The man died on the scene.

Court rules on spaza shops
MARAPONG - More than 100 Spaza shop owners of foreign descent gathered at the offices of the Lephalale police in Onverwacht last Wednesday for a meeting with provincial officials regarding the closure of their shops and the confiscation of their goods by police.
Several of the disgruntled shop owners approached Northern News saying that their livelihood has been taken from them and that they all possessed the necessary documentation to run spaza shops.
The trouble started on Friday when several shops were closed down by police officers in an organised raid in Marapong. The situation became tense when, according to the foreign nationals, local residents destroyed their shops. DA councillor Steven Manamella was contacted by the shop owners who struggled to get any response from police on the matter.
Police spokesperson, W. O. Frans Mokoena told Northern News this week that the local residents who approached the shop owners were members of the Business Forum in Marapong as well as property owners who previously gave shop owners notice of the termination of their lease agreements.
When the foreigners, mostly Somalians and Ethiopians, refused to leave, property
owners threw their merchandise out on the street.
Several shop owners appeared in the Magistrate’s court on Thursday and the court ruled that only six of the more than 100 foreign nationals could continue operating their spaza shops.
Spaza shops and illegal taverns have been the focus of police action right across the province the past few weeks. According to provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col. Ronel Otto, spaza shop owners are often easy targets for burglars. “If a R100 is stolen from a spaza shop it becomes part of house
breaking statistics in the province. Illegal taverns also contribute to high crime statistics and alcohol related crime, it is for this reason that several operations throughout the province have seen many foreign nationals who operate business illegally arrested.”
Some of the disgruntled foreign shop owners gathered at the police offices in Onverwacht last week.

LEPHALALE - Resource Generation Limited’s plans to build a 45 MW power station to supply power to stage one of its Boikarabelo mine just outside Lephalale have been placed on hold.
This after Eskom agreed to supply sufficient power for stage one of the mine’s operation as early as 2014 after the first generating unit at its new Medupi power station is in commercial operation. This will meet the company’s target of beginning coal production early in 2015.
ResGen announced on Wednesday that the cost of Boikarabelo’s planned 45MW power station, for which tenders have been received, has been removed
ResGen’s Lephalale power station plans delayed
from the capital expenditure estimate for stage one of Boikarabelo’s operations. The company has therefore been able to reduce the estimated capital cost of its Boikarabelo coal mine in the Waterberg by R960 million.
Paul Jury, managing director, said: “This development provides a positive step in simplifying the funding and construction phases of stage one of the Boikarabelo mine. Importantly, subject to securing debt funding, the capital saving will reduce the amount of equity funds required.”
A decision on whether to proceed with the building of the 45 MW power station will now not take place until 2013.
LEPHALALE - A suspect wanted for several cases of theft out of motor vehicles was arrested last week following the assistance of a member of the public who saw the man and an accomplice steal items from several vehicles in Jan Lee street.
The witness approached Molalaltau Security who alerted response personnel in the area.
The men were seen targeting vehicles in the parking area of the Lephalale Square where they were opening vehicles and quickly exiting them again.
Suspected car thief nabbedOne of the suspects was seen with a
remote control, a device often used by criminals to block the lock systems of motor vehicles. When security personnel approached the men they ran in the direction of Jan Lee street. One of them were apprehended and taken to the police station.
It was later confirmed that the man was sought for several crimes in the area.
Molalaltau Security wishes to thank the public for their assistance and request that any suspicious activity or behaviour be reported to 0860 102 859.
MOKOPANE – Mogalakwena Municipality’s councillor Beyers Smit on Tuesday tabled a motion insisting that the muinicipality reconsiders it’s policy on debt collection.

Councillor cries foul over credit practices
on a outstanding municipal account that exceeds R100.
Smit says municipal officials arrived at the R100 benchmark through their own discretion after it was decided to reduce the official amount from R345,00 a few years ago. He says the current by-law dealing with this in unclear and should be amended to be fair on ratepayers while clearly stipulating a bench mark.
The by-law as it stands is vague in this regard.At the time of going to print, the municipal
manager could not be reached for comment, but a meeting with him has been scheduled to discuss these and other matters.

MOKOPANE - The Waterberg FET College (Hotel School) in co-operation with the Kierieklapper Arts Festival hosted 4 Food and Wine Pairing events from 9-11 August 2012.
Occupational students following a Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts, with their facilitator, Mr Tommie Hurter, prepared the food for these events and gained valuable experience and exposure.
The students did an excellent job during the Food and Wine Pairings. The feedback received from the community was that the students showed commitment, dedication and portrayed professionalism during the events. The students were friendly and courteous and seemed to enjoy the exposure

Mr. Johan Kirchner, the Kierieklapper Chairperson, and Mrs. Estelle Hartzenberg, Manager at the ‘Dienssentrum vir Bejaardes’, handed over participation certificate to show appreciation for the College and students' involvement during the fundraising event for the aged.
Waterberg FET College has pledged to prepare and train all students to be the best in the country. During the Food and Wine Pairing events, it was identified that the Cape Wine Academy course, that are also part of this Diploma course, will further benefit students to excel in their knowledge and pronouncement of various wines for all forthcoming Food and Wine Pairing events.

POLOKWANE - ‘n Spesiale vergadering om die krisisafmetings van renosterstropery in Limpopo te bespreek is verlede Woensdag by die polisie se streekskantore in Polokwane gehou. Volgens statistieke wat onlangs bekend gemaak is, is twee keer meer renosters in 2012 gestroop in vergelyking met dieselfde tydperk in 2011. Meer as 300 renosters is reeds sedert Januarie 2012 in Suid-Afrika gestroop.
Die vergadering wat gelei is deur die provinsiale adjunk kommisaris vir polisiëering, Majoor Generaal Benny Nltemeza is deur renosterboere en polisielede van regoor die provinsie bygewoon.
Gawie van Zyl, wat Agri-Limpopo by die vergadering verteenwoordig het, sê hy was baie teleurgesteld oor die onproduktiewe wyse waarop die vergadering hanteer is. “Generaal Ntlemeza wat die vergadering moes lei, het kort nadat sowat 100 persone hulself aan mekaar moes voorstel, die vergadering verlaat. Op daardie stadium was nog geen van die sake op die sakelys bespreek nie.”

LIMPOPO - Daar bestaan tans groot verwarring rondom die aanstelling van Reserviste in Limpopo.
By ‘n onlangse provinsiale polisievergadering is daar aan streeksbevelvoerders gevra of almal daarvan bewus is dat die moratorium op die aanstelling van reserviste gelig is en dat hulle nou kan voortgaan met die proses om nuwe reserviste aan te stel.
By plaaslike polisiestasies word daar egter gesê dat opdrag van provinsie ontvang is om nog nie met die proses te begin nie.

MOKOPANE - Gretha du Plessis van die VLU Aandster tak is veilig terug nadat sy Kilimanjaro suksesvol aangepak het.
Gretha vertel dat sy glad nie “altitude sickness” gehad het nie, maar dat die koue haar amper-amper onder gekry het.
Die groep het bestaan uit twee gidse, ‘n kok en een ander stapper. Een van die gidse wat hul vergesel het, het by die vertekpunt aan Gretha belowe dat hy haar by die piek sal kry, en hy het dit reggekry.
VLU Aandster is baie dankbaar dat Gretha veilig teruggekom het. Hier is sy op die hoogste punt in Afrika met die VLU Aandster banier wat al die pad saamgeklim het.

Twee keer meer renosters sterf in 2012

By ‘n onlangse landelike veiligheids vergadering in Lephalale het die streeksbevelvoerder, Lt. Kol M.R. Matlou gesê dat boere in die omgewing huiwerig is om inligting rakende renosters te gee. “Die polisie weet nie watter plase renosters, olifante of selfs leeus het nie. Dit is verstaanbaar dat boere weens die hoë voorkoms van renosterstropery skrikerig is om inligting deur te gee, maar dit maak dit vir die polisie baie moeilik om die situasie te monitor.”
Intussen is daar is daar by verlede Woensdag se vergadering besluit om ‘n komitee saam te stel wat renosterstropery in Limpopo sal ondersoek en moontlike oplossings bespreek.
Van Zyl doen ‘n beroep op renosterboere en lede van jagtersverenigings om hulself hiervoor beskikbaar te stel deur hulle name voor Woensdag deur te gee aan Brigadier Mkhabela of Kaptein Nelufule by 015 292 9425.
Nuwe reserviste nie nou aangestel niewil stel word gevra om geduldig te wees met die prosess.
Provinsiale polisie woordvoerder, Brigadier Hlengani Mulaudzi het hierdie week aan Noordelike Nuus gesê dat die Moratorium op die aanstel van nuwe reserviste sal geld totdat daar bepaal kan word waar bestaande reserviste ontplooi kan word en waar daar ‘n behoefte is vir die aanstel van nuwe reserviste.
Volgens Mulaudzi word reserviste nie net vir misdaad voorkoming benodig nie, maar ook vir adminstratiewe werk by polisiestasies.

48% van Suid-Afrika se 50 miljoen inwoners lewe onder die broodlyn. Dit beteken dat byna die helfte van ons land se bevolking met minder as R25-00 per dag oor die weg moet kom.
Hierdie mense lewe nie iewers weggesteek in ’n vergete uithoek van ons land nie. Hulle leef oral om ons – op ons strate, langs ons huise, binne ons skole en kerke.
Ons hoef nie na armoede te soek nie. Armoede vind óns, dit staar ons in die gesig om elke hoek en draai. Alhoewel Jesus gesê het dat die armes altyd by ons sal wees (Matt. 26:11), het Hy nooit gesê dat ons armoede moet ignoreer nie. Inteendeel.
Ons lees in Matt. 25:31-46 dat die manier waarop ons op armoede reageer, op die oordeelsdag ter sprake gaan kom. Wie mense in nood (armoede ingesluit) ignoreer, ignoreer vir Jesus self! Aan die ander kant, wie barmhartigheid betoon, betoon liefde. En wie liefde betoon, wys daardeur dat hy in God glo. Altans, so verstaan ek Gal. 5:6.
Wat weerhou ons daarvan om ander in nood te help? Verskonings. “Ek help nie mense in nood nie, want
hulle is te lui om te werk/soek eintlik nie kos nie maar drankgeld/die regering kan help/hulle waardeer nie wat jy vir hulle doen nie/netnou het ek ’n toeloop van armlastiges wat hulp soek/hulle is in nood omdat hulle deur God vir hulle sonde gestraf word.”
Ons soek verskonings soos hierdie, omdat ons dink dat ons daarmee kan wegkom en onsself kan “verskoon” om nie betrokke te raak nie. God sê dat ons dit doen omdat ons ’n verkeerde Godsbeeld besit (Job 22:12-14).
Ons dink dat God ons nie sien nie, dat Hy ver in die hemel is en nie weet dat ons verby die nood van ander loop nie.
God sê ook dat ons nie help nie, omdat ons bloot ondankbaar is (Job 22:18). Ons besef nie dat alles wat ons besit, na ons toe kom uit die seënende hand van die Here en dat ons mense wat in nood is, tot seën behoort te wees nie (Heb. 13:16).
’n Verkeerde Godsbeeld en ondankbaarheid leef in ons harte. God wys dit duidelik aan ons uit. Maar Hy wys ook hoe ons hiervan ontslae kan raak.
“Onderwerp jou aan God, dan sal jy in vrede leef, en so sal jy voorspoed hê. Laat Hy jou leer en neem sy
woorde ter harte” (Job 22:21-22). Die plek ontbreek om hierdie versie meer volledig te verklaar, maar kortliks kom dit op die volgende neer: Dink God se gedagtes agter Hom aan. Dit beteken dat jy jou gedagtes op die dinge wat daarbo is, moet vestig, en nie op dit wat op die aarde is nie (Kol. 3:2). Dan sal jy minder vashou aan dinge wat verganklik is.
Jy sal ook vir God self ontvang as die Bron van alle goedheid. Dit beteken dat jou hoogste geluk, jou enigste troos daarin sal lê dat jy nie meer aan jouself behoort nie, maar aan Jesus Christus.
Hierdie wete sal aan jou vrede gee, onder andere omdat aardse dinge vir jou minder belangrik raak. Om in hierdie vrede te kan bly lewe, moet jy bereid wees om Jesus se dissipel te wees, om lewenslank aan sy voete te sit en van Hom te leer.
As jy wat Hy jou leer ter harte neem, sal jou hart vol word van die waarheid aangaande God en van dankbaarheid.
Die verkeerde Godsbeeld en die ondankbaarheid wat in jou hart leef, sal uitgeskop word en plek maak vir geloof wat deur die liefde in dade oorgaan!
Die armes sal altyd met ons wees, maar ek glo dat statistieke kan verander wanneer ons harte aan God behoort!

Exxaro Resources Limited (Exxaro) is proposing to develop a new coal mine in the Waterberg area to be known as the Thabametsi Coal Mine located within the Lephalale Local Municipality in Limpopo Province, South Africa. The proposed project is to be located approximately directly west and northwest of the existing Grootegeluk Coal Mine. Marapong and Onverwacht are the closest towns to the project. Notice is hereby given that Exxaro is applying for:
Mining Right from the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), Limpopo in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA).
Please note that other environmental authorisations required for the Thabametsi Project in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No.:107 of 1998) as amended (NEMA), National Water Act, 1998 (Act No.: 36 of 1998) (NWA) and National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No.: 59 of 2008) (NEM:WA) will follow in due course once the necessary applications are made. All registered stakeholders will be informed of the applications and the opportunity to participate.

Notice is hereby given of the availability of the Final Basic Assessment Report (BAR) for the proposed Road Deviation (D4380) at Mogalakwena Platinum Mine in terms of the requirements of the Government Notice No. R544 in the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulation, 2010 in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) for the proposed project.
Mogalakwena Mine (Anglo Platinum) and Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) proposes to re-align a portion of the D4380 Provincial Road along a route as close as possible to the western boundaries of the farm Zwartfontein 818 LR, to allow for the expansion of mining activities (expanded open pit and waste rock dump) once the necessary surface lease has been obtained, in a westerly direction. The road deviation will take place outside the mine lease area. The road deviation and upgrading of alink in the roads infrastructure will constitute an important link between the towns of Bakenberg and Mokopane. The existing gravel road D4380 Provincial Road will be upgraded and tarred over some of its length providing an improved transport network for the local community. A section of the road will be re-aligned and the re-aligned section will also be tarred.SRK Consulting (Pty) Ltd (SRK) has been appointed to carry out the required environmental authorization process including public participation. The participation of stakeholders and the public is an important component of the environmental authorisation process as it provides an opportunity for Interested and Affected Parties' (IAP's) to share their views, questions and issues. The report will be available for viewing from Thursday 23 August 2012 at:

Let’s be honest, during the winter it is a chore to go fishing. It is cold, sometimes downright unpleasant, and the fish are notoriously difficult to catch. Everything slows down, and most of us go into semi-hibernation.
But, it is not impossible to catch bass during the winter, especially in Southern Africa where our winters are relatively mild. Even in countries like America, where whole lakes freeze over, ice-fishermen manage to hook a bass occasionally.
Most people are under the impression that the spawning season, at the onset of spring, is the best time to catch trophy bass. To a degree that is true, because this is the time when most of the large females will move out of deep water and into shallower water, where it is easier to fish for them.
What most people do not realise though, is that winter fishing can produce monster bass too. This winter I have seen several photos of huge bass caught in our waters, caught at a time when most of us were sitting warming our toes in front of the fire.
Match the hatchBass do not
stop eating during winter just because it is cold. Yes, their metabolism has slowed but they still need to eat! They will not feed as often as they do in summer, and they will not waste energy chasing down small fry. Trophy bass will select prey that can be caught with the least amount of energy, but supply the most amount of nutrition in one feeding.
During the winter bait fish make up the majority of bass food, simply because they are still abundant and available whilst most crustaceans or invertebrates have dug themselves into the mud, or under rocks to wait out the winter months. Find the bait and you will find the bass. This is the time of year when your electronics prove their worth. Look for schools of bait fish in areas that may hold winter bass - deep water with bass attracting structure and abundant cover.

for bass to start making the migration into shallower water. Now is the time to catch those Big Mommas as they slowly become more active, in preparation for the impending spawn. They will not turn down

Find the bait, find the structure and find the cover. Select a lure that can be worked slowly and methodically in the area without hanging up, be patient, and work the cover from top to bottom.
In areas where you have found lots of bait fish, use suspending swim baits, swimming jigs in colours resembling the main source of food, Texas-rigged plastics (especially fluke-style baits), drop-shot rig with fluke-style baits and split-shot rigged plastics.
Use anything that resembles a bait fish, or can be fished with an action imitating wounded bait fish. Just remember - you have to be able to fish it slow.
A lethargic bass will not chase a fast-moving lure down when the water is still cold.
