Die eienaars en bestuurders van slaghuise is dit eens dat hulle gehalte vleis verkoop en dat hul kliënte sommer gou sal agterkom as hul boerewors en maalvleis ander produkte bevat.
Die herrie rondom vleis is op die regte tyd oopgevlek, sê Renier van Vuuren van Tan Slaghuis in Mokopane. “Ek dink ons konvensionele slaghuise wat 'n vetrouens-verhouding met kliënte opgebou het, baat hierby. ‘n Slaghuis word geken aan sy maalvleis, boerewors, biltong en droë wors. Die ander vleis is ‘n bysaak. Hierdie vier produkte maak dat mense terugkom.”
Van Vuuren sê die geleentheid is daar vir slaghuise om skelm te wees. “Hardloop agter goedkoper pryse aan dan kan jy verwag om produkte soos soya in vleis te kry. As ek ‘n olifant het en dit in my produkte sit sal ek dit vir mense sê, want daar is diegene wat wil proe hoe olifant smaak! Jy kry ook slaghuise wat openlik adverteer dat hul perdevleis verkoop vir die wat wil proe of daarvan hou.”
Billie van Heerden, bestuurder van Meat City, sê daar was afgelope tyd baie kliënte wat die vleiskwessie opgehaal het - ernstig of grapgewys. Hy wil mense verseker net gehalte vleis word verkoop. “Daar is tog baie mense wat wildsvleis koop. Dit is gesog en word duidelik gemerk of dit nou wildsosaties, of wildswors is.”
Freek Grobler, bestuurder van Mark Slaghuis, sê hulle het ook vrae rondom die vleis-kwessie hanteer. Die slaghuis is al 30 jaar in die vleisbedryf en dit is veral hul wors, gemaalde vleis en biltong wat topverkopers is. “ Mense vertrou ons en sal gou agter kom as daar ander produkte in ons vleis is. Dit is die ouens wat geprosseseerde vleise soos polonie maak wat allerhande goed kan bysit.”

Limpopo health authorities will have to pay R1.7-million to a housewife from Mokopane who received poor treatment at the Lephalale and Polokwane hospitals.
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday confirmed a settlement between Cornelia Wentzel (49) and provincial authorities as an order of court.
According to court papers the medical staff at the Lephalale and Polokwane hospitals failed to treat her properly for a severely dislocated ankle seven years ago. She had to undergo a series of operations. This left her in chronic pain and with one leg shorter than the other.
Wentzel used to enjoy dancing, jogging and fishing with her husband, but now even battle to clean her home. Dr D. Mare who examined Wentzel said the treatment she received was “scandalous” and the surgeon who operated on her appears to have been incompetent.
Mare said she should have been treated within an hour after arriving at Polokwane to save her foot, but was inexplicably made to wait until the next morning. He said Wentzel needed further surgery but the pain in her foot was presently so bad that she might be better off if her leg was amputated below the knee.
Beeld reports that Wentzel was cleaning the swimming pool at her house when she slipped and dislocated her ankle. She went to the Lephalale Hospital for treatment but was transferred to the Polokwane Hospital because her injury required specialist attention by an orthopaedic surgeon. At the Polokwane Hospital she was made to wait in pain without medication for about 12 hours until she was operated on the next morning.
According to the court papers, the doctor who operated on her told her he did not need x-rays as he knew what he was doing. He proceeded to operate using an epidural anaesthetic. Wentzel was still conscious when the power supply to the theatre was cut off and she was carried on a sheet to another theatre because no trolleys were available. The staff could at first not find the light switch to the new theatre, causing her to become so distressed that she asked for a full anaesthetic.
When Wentzel woke up, and asked for pain medication, staff told her the doctor had left for the weekend without leaving instructions for her further treatment. They refused to help her even when blood started dripping onto the floor from her bandaged foot and told her she should return to the Lephalale Hospital.
Her husband transferred her to her local hospital later that night where a doctor prescribed pain medication. The same doctor kept on treating her for weeks until he removed the plaster from her foot and found that gangrene had set in. She was transferred to the Kalafong Hospital where she underwent numerous operations to save her foot, but was left with a shortened left leg, massive scars and chronic pain.

Suspects arrested in GaSelekaLEPHALALE - A cashier at the Jazz and Grill in GaSeleka had a narrow escape when two robbers, both in their early twenties, entered the premises and threatened her with a knife. The robbers, fled with R2600 cash, but two suspects were arrested in GaSeleka by Lephalale police on Monday morning. The men appeared in the Lephalale magistrate’s court on Tuesday where they were refused bail. The suspects will appear in court again on 16 March. The cashier was unharmed.

Diatla Investment Holding Company announced last week Wednesday that it has bought out Molalatau Security (MS) entirely. New CEO, Wayne Derksen, told Northern News that through acquiring MS, Diatla added value for its more than 600 share holders and now also has the opportunity to serve the Lephalale community.
“The previous owner of Molalatau, Theo Pistorius, built up a great company known for its community involvement and we plan to build on this en render an even better service to the public.”
More than 75% of Diatla’s shareholders are women from rural areas and according to Derksen the company’s goal is to empower the local community of Lephalale.
Derksen adds that Diatla is currently negotiating with several other already profitable companies to buy shares from them.
“Our aim is to partner with these local companies who will through their partnership with Diatla become compliant with government regulations relating to BEE and other requirements.”
Pistorius told Northern News on Tuesday that the sale of Molalatau affords him the opportunity to become more involved in the Pistorius Group and property development.
“For the first time in eight years I have regular office hours and my phone is not ringing off the hook with crisis to manage!”
Pistorius says Diatla is structured in such a way that Molalatau Security will benefit from more contracts due to its BEE partnership.
“They have taken over the company as it is with the same personnel who are all very committed to rendering a much needed service in Lephalale, I wish them all the best.”
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU Western Region, Lim-popo Province) held a protest march to the Waterberg FET College Centre on Monday. A list of demands, including outstanding payment for lecturers, was hand over to Mr SP Mailula, CEO of the college. SADTU also addressed the staff members and the college students who were affected by the Industrial Action. According to Mr Mailula most of the items on the grievance list are now resolved or in the process of being resolved.

Marthie se begrafnisdiens en ter aarde bestelling vind Saterdag om 11:00 plaas op Mama Tau.
Car accident claims little girlA much-loved pupil of Marken Primary passed away on Monday morning in a car accident on her way to school. According to reports, her father, who was driving from Vaalwater to Marken, was forced to swerve off the road to avoid hitting a goat.
It seems Hlengiwe Precosia Mashabane (8) was flung out of the vehicle when one of the car's wheels came off causing it to overturn and sent it crashing into a telephone pole.
Hlengiwe was seated on the front passenger seat next to her father. Her father, little sister, Zianda (5) and brother, Sylvester (4), did not sustain any injuries.
Ramond Bronkhorst, the principal of Marken Primary told Northern News that the staff and learners at the school are very sad and will remember Hlengiwe fondly. A special rememberance service will be held on Friday after which she will be buried in Vaalwater.

Geen lig in watertonnelDie waterkrisis in Limpopo het inwoners van verskeie dorpe in die provinsie radeloos en in Lephalale is dit ook nie anders nie. Klagtes van inwoners wat die afgelope twee weke in hulle swembaddens bad, inwoners in Marapong wat ten duurste water moet aankoop, skole se toilette wat nie gespoel kan word nie en inwoners wat op die boonste verdiepings van woonstelle geen water het nie, is volop.
Munisipale Bestuurder, Bob Naidoo erken dat die vraag na water die aanbod oorskry en dat die munisipaliteit dit tans moeilik vind om water aan almal te voorsien. Hy sê die afgelope paar weke se water drukprobleme is te wyte aan die nuwe pypleiding wat aan die oue gekoppel is. Die stelsel moes noodgedwonge vir ‘n tydperk afgeskakel word. Weerlig het ook twee motors raakgeslaan wat bygedra het tot die frustrasie. Naidoo erken dat kommunikasie met die gemeenskap nie voldoende was om te verduidelik wat aangaan nie en sê dat die munisipaliteit voortaan beter sal kommunikeer.
Naidoo sê Lephalale se waterinfrastruktuur is tussen 40 en 50 jaar oud en sal aan die einde van die jaar wanneer die nuwe pyplyn in werking tree ontkoppel word. “Ons wil nie nou te veel spandeer aan die huidige stelsel nie aangesien daar reeds R20 miljoen begroot is vir die nuwe pypleiding.” Volgens Naidoo word ook twee nuwe opgaardamme gebou wat waterdruk aansienlik sal verhoog.”
‘n Voormalige polisiebevelvoerder van Bultfontein, wat meer as 20 jaar ervaring in die polisiemag het, het verlede Donderdag by die Lephalale landelike veiligheidsvergadering sy veiligheidsplan vir boere in die Lephalale omgewing voorgelê.

Boere kan gerus die Agri Lephalale kantoor by 014 763 1888 skakel vir meer inligting. Na wat verneem word sal dit ‘n boer sowat R9500 ‘n jaar kos om van HP Sekuriteit se dienste gebruik te maak.
Lephalale polisie kry broodnodige hupstootMet misdaadsyfers wat sedert Januarie die hoogte ingeskiet het, sal misdaadvoos-inwoners in Lephalale die aanstelling van niks minder as 56 nuwe konstabels verwelkom.
Die nuwe lede het vandag (Vrydag) vir diens aangemeld in die dorp en sal in die misdaadsvoorkomingseenheid (16), die satelietstasie in Marapong (16), die speurdiens (6), plaaspatrollies (4), sosiale misdaadvoorkoming (2) en die vuurwapenlisensie kantoor (2) diens doen.
Daar sal voortaan twee polisie voertuie per skof in al vier polisiesektore aan diens wees.
Boere bekommerd oor verhogingsDie nuus dat die prys van diesel die week met 56c/l en dié van petrol met 81c/l verhoog is, kom vir die landbougemeenskap op ’n baie slegte tyd, meen TLU SA President, Louis Meintjies.
Meintjies is bekommerd dat die verhoogde minimumlone in die landbousektor, Nersa se aankondiging dat elektrisiteitstariewe met 8% verhoog gaan word, tolgelde wat ook hierdie week verhoog is en die verdere 23c/l brandstofheffings wat volgende maand in werking tree, boere in SA gaan sink. “Waar georganiseerde landbou pleit vir ’n aanpassing van die dieselrabat, sodat boere in belang van voedselsekerheid winsgewend kan bly boer, word sodanige billike versoeke bloot geïgnoreer,” sê Meintjes. “Die regering moet kennis neem dat as hy nie die boere tegemoet gaan kom met hierdie hele pakkie van bykomende verhogings en belastings nie, dit rampspoedige gevolge vir die land se voedselsekuriteit en die landbou-ekonomie gaan inhou,” waarsku hy.

There are five free-standing rooms with en suite bathrooms. Each room sleeps four people preferably two adults and two children. The main building has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, bar and lounge. In the main building there is also a pool table and dart board. There is a swimming pool, lapa and braai area to enjoy. You can either take a walk or a game drive on the 450ha farm where you will get to see breeding project where there are between 80 to 100 Nyala, they are enclosed in a 70ha camp. To view all the Nyala a feeding is a must see. If you would like to do a bit of shopping there is grocery stores, banks, restaurants in Mokopane 25km away. Polokwane (Pietersburg) about 80km away.
On the banks of the LimpopoSebe Sebe Lodge is situated about 70km northwest of Lephalale. The exquisite decor compliments the character of Sebe Sebe Lodge and you will immediately feel at home. Visitors can settle on the large deck looking directly onto the Limpopo River and across into Botswana or have a drink in the adjoining cosy pub, complete with large screen satellite TV.

Vyf top atlete van Hoërskool Piet Potgieter gaan 20-23 Maart aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Hoërskole Atletiekkampioenskappe in Oos-Londen deelneem.
Simoné van Wyk gaan aan die 100m en 400m hekkies vir dogters o/19 deelneem en Peter Tau aan die 1 500m vir seuns o/17. JJ Lourens sal Limpopo verteenwoordig in die o/17 seuns hoogspring, terwyl David Mofomme in die 800m vir seuns o/15 sy slag gaan wys. Marnus Uys gaan die 100m en 200m vir seuns o/15 hardloop.
Marnus het twee rekords - wat al jare staan - vandeesmaand tydens die Interhoër op Nylstroom verbeter. Die 100m het hy gewen in ‘n tyd van 11.1s en sodoende die vorige rekord van 43 jaar gebreek. Hy het ook in die 200m ‘n vinnige 23.1s gehardloop om die vorige rekord wat agt jaar al staan, te verbeter.
Benewens atletiek, is Marnus sy skool se kookwater buite-senter op die rugbyveld en hy swem graag in sy vryetyd. Hy beaam skaam hy is onlangs gekies as sy skool se Mnr. Valentyn (junior). Hy wil na skool in ‘n mediese rigting gaan studeer.
Peter het ‘n goue medalje in die 800m en ‘n silwer medalje in die 1500m tydens die interhoër verower. Sy tyd in die 800m was 1.58s en in die 1 500m 4.9s. Hy vertel hy sal graag vorentoe die groen en goud oor sy kop wil trek. Hy is ook nie verniet een van die vleuels van die o/17 rugbyspan nie.
Marnus Uys is sy skool se kortafstand blits en Peter Tau is nie bang om langafstande vinnig kaf te draf nie.

Trompoppies net waar jy kykTrompoppies van sowat 10 skole en klubs in Limpopo gaan Saterdagoggend teen mekaar meeding by Laerskool Krugerpark.
Die kompetisie word deur die Limpopo Trompoppie Unie aangebied en begin nege-uur die oggend op die skool se rugbyveld. Die laer- en hoërskoolspanne gaan in verskillende afdelings mekaar die stryd aansê.
Martie Viljoen, afrigter van Laerskool Krugerpark se trompoppies, sê die kompetisie is die eerste van die jaar en ‘n goeie oefenlopie vir die Suid-Afrikaanse Trompoppie Kampioenskappe wat van 28 Junie tot 6 Julie in Polokwane plaasvind. Die trompoppies van al die provinsies gaan dan teen mekaar te staan kom. Die toegangsfooi vir Saterdag se kompetisie is R5 vir volwassenes en R3 per kind. Almal is welkom om die spanne te kom ondersteun. Daar sal ook ‘n snoepwinkel wees om die eetlus en dors te les.

Summer patterns are typically deep-water patterns, with many anglers catching bass from depths of 20-foot or more. Unfortunately, many fish will die because most recreational anglers do not know how to take care of fish that have been brought up from the depths too quickly.
What is barotrauma?When you catch a fish from water any deeper than 30-
foot (9m) the swim bladder will inflate because the water pressure on the bladder decreases as you bring the fish up to the surface. Sometimes the bladder will swell up so much that it will actually protrude from the mouth.
With this added buoyancy, an exhausted fish may experience great difficulty keeping itself upright and will not be able to swim back down to the depths it was caught from. This is called Barotrauma and clear symptoms show a body that looks swollen, eyes that look as though they are popping out and, upon release, you see the fish floundering on the surface.
Treating BarotraumaBring the fish in quickly to avoid over-tiring it and, if
the bladder is not protruding from the mouth, release it immediately. Drop the fish nose-first to help it gain momentum to swim down to the depths, where the increasing water pressure will compress the swim bladder again. If you do not release the fish immediately gas bubbles will accumulate in the blood, which will lessen the chances of survival. If the fish is not strong enough to overcome the buoyancy it will float back to the surface again. This is the time to apply emergency procedures, which starts with ‘fizzing’ the bass - the act of removing air from the swim bladder. (See illustration).
‘Fizzing’ Procedure Remove a scale and insert an 18- to 20-gauge
hypodermic needle 3 to scale rows below the lateral line and in line with the
notch between the dorsal fins and the vent.Listen for escaping gas. You may have to push on the
belly to help force out some of the gas.

If the stomach does not pull back from the mouth you may have to push it back gently with a blunt object.
When you have released a fish that has been de-gassed keep an eye open to see that it does not float back up. If it does re-surface repeat the de-gassing procedure. If it still fails to swim down unaided it may be beyond help and destined for the dining table.
Fish caught in water deeper than 50-foot may suffer more serious damage such as ruptured blood vessels and gas bubbles in vital organs. When you see blood-spots on the body or fins and bugged-out eyes the fish will very likely die and there is no use trying to release it.
By taking proper care of our fish we can take pride in helping to maintain the future of our sport, be examples to others as to how it should be done and at the same time be held in high regard as top-notch anglers.

EHS se top atlete het die naweek deelgeneem aan die Limpopo skole atletiek kampio-enskappe te Pietersburg. Corman Vos (o/17), Christiaan Kruger (o/17), Larissa Nel (o/14), Frans Tselane (o/19), Hannah Leahy (o/14) en natuurlik ons goue meisie: Johanè Pistorius (o/15). Christiaan kom eerste in die 110m hekkies en tweede in die 400m hekkies. Frans Tselane kom tweede in die 400 hekkies en Johanè wen diskus en spiesgooi. Die afgelope naweek het drie van Mokopane se swemmers deelgeneem aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Ope Water Kampioenskapp by Grabouw in die Wes-Kaap.
Dirkie van der Bank (regs) het in die 3km vir die kategorie 19 tot 30 jaar ‘n tweede plek behaal en vir die 5 km in die kategorie 14 en ouer was hy in die 39ste posisie. Anél de Vos (links) het in die 3km vir die kategorie 14 tot 18 jaar ‘n sesde plek behaal en Morné van der Bank het ook in die 3km vir die kategorie 12 tot 13 jaar ‘n 8ste plek behaal. Hulle het hul afrigter, Awie Hattingh bedank vir die tyd wat hy in hulle belê het.
