N+P’s New SRF Derived Alternative Fuel Solutions For Major Energy Users

N+P is a leading alternative fuel provider to the cement, lime and

power generation industries.

The company has a very strong presence in Europe and now wants to move into the Middle East markets.

N+P currently produces very large volumes of alternative fuels and has been doing so for over 20 years.

N+P produces a new pelletised alternative fuel: Subcoal. Subcoal pellets could be co-ground together with primary fuels via excisting dosing equipment.

“BUT WHO ARE THE N+P GROUP AND DO THEY HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE?”

Summary Of Key Points

WHAT TYPES OF RDF/SRF DO N+P PRODUCE?

Refuse derived fuel (RDF) has CV less than 15MJ/kg.

Solid recovered fuel (SRF) has CV greater than 15MJ/kg

European standard CEN TC-343

The different fuels can be produced from:

- commercial industrial sources

- municipal sources

“BUT DO THE N+P GROUP HANDLE ANY OTHER WASTE DERIVED MATERIALS?”

WHAT OTHER MATERIALS ARE SOLD BY THE N+P GROUP?

Paper sludge, coming from paper mills using old paper. Sold as an alternative raw materials for various industries, or as an alternative fuel to lignite fired power stations

Rockwool production waste (insulation wool). Sold as an alternative raw material in the cement and ceramic industry.

FCC catalyst from refineries, used as an alternative raw material in various industries

“BUT WHAT IS THE N+P GROUP ALTERNATIVE FUEL STRATEGY?”

WHAT IS THE N+P GROUP’S SRF STRATEGY?

Currently the N+P Group are supplying 1 million tonnes per annum to consumers in Germany, Latvia, UK, Belgium, France, Portugal and Holland.

Shortly supplies into Spain and Poland will commence.

N+P have capacity to produce SRF in the UK, Italy and France.

The next target is to supply consumers in The Middle East, the Balkans and North Africa.

It is also N+P Groups objective to produce alternative fuels in the countries where the fuel is consumed.

Finally N+P want to focus on the cement, lime and coal fired power generation industries.

“BUT WHAT TRACK RECORD DOES THE N+P GROUP HAVE IN THE SUPPLY OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS TO THE CEMENT INDUSTRY?”

WHAT ARE THE N+P STRATEGIC GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS?

WHAT IS THE EXPERIENCE OF THE BEST PERFORMING CEMENT PLANTS IN EUROPE?

It would appear that many of the best performing plants are

in Northern Europe where the factories benefit from high grade SRF.

There are now a number of examples of factories burning up to 100% thermal substitution namely Beckum (CX) & S.Ferriby (CX).

The average performance in Northern Europe is circa 60 to 70% thermal substitution.

This level of substitution has been achieved without adverse impact on :

IMPACT ON PLANT EMISSIONS EXPLAINED

Over the past 35 years there have been many studies into the environmental impact of using alternative fuels on cement plants in Europe.

The overwhelming conclusion is that there are no adverse environmental impacts if the fuel is of good quality and good practice is employed when using the fuels.

Indeed the emissions of NOx are now known to reduce significantly by over 50%.

No impact on heavy metal emissions.

No impact on organic emissions including that of dioxins.

“SUBCOAL” – THE NEW FUEL

SRF can be upgraded further using our proprietary Subcoal® technology, to create a very clean and stable alternative fuel

Subcoal® can be co-grinded with bituminous coal or pet cokes via e.g. a vertical roller mill and fed directly into the hopper or kiln

In this way Subcoal® can quickly boost substitution rates up to 30%

Ground Subcoal® typically has a particle size of < 5 mm, which results in excellent burnout times

WHAT DOES N+P GROUP OFFER?

Supply of high quality RDF, SRF or Subcoal® pellets produced to individual clients needs.

Access to large volumes of high grade waste streams through partner companies.

Full logistics support for the delivery of the alternative fuel.

Full administrative support in managing the international legislation relating to the movement of alternative fuels.

Assistance in discussing the concept of importing such fuels with local and national authorities.

Develop the concept of producing the fuel from locally generated waste in the vicinity of new clients.

Technical support in the use of the fuel on cement plants by new clients.

SUMMARY OF THE N+P GROUP CONCEPT

The N+P Group are a major provider of alternative fuels to the cement , lime and coal fired power plant industrial sectors.

The company wants to develop it’s strong base and move into the Middle East and North Africa where it is also willing to investigate the possibility of using local waste to produce high grade SRF.

N+P have over 20 years experience in producing high grade SRF and has operated on an international level to supply many of the world’s cement majors.

Now the N+P group have “Subcoal” which is a pelletised fuel which can be used on cement plants to kick start the use of alternative fuels but can also be used to achieve the very high thermal substitution seen in Northern Europe.

The business case that says that cement plants need to burn coal or pet coke to make clinker is dead!
