Twenty-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time October 18, 2020

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER

Love the Lord your God, Love your neighbor Today’s gospel reading (Matthew 22.34.40) is about the Greatest Commandment. Actually, there are two parts to it. Jesus tells us: love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind; love your neighbor as yourself. Love your neighbor as yourself ? It is a great idea! It is inspiring. But it’s also difficult at times. We are tempted to be inpatient with people we disagree with or with people’s actions that rub us the wrong way. We can

even become judgmental! I remember a story about a dad and his two small children at a restaurant. The kids were misbehaving badly and “disturbing the peace” as people were trying to enjoy their meals. After the dad and kids were finished and leaving the table, he turned to the people around them and thanked them for being so patient with him and his children. He told them that they just lost their mom that day and were struggling. Today’s gospel is a challenge for us. Jesus encourages us to strive for more and more. We can do it! We are to love with all our heart, soul and mind. We are not left alone in this task. We have the support of Jesus Christ in the Church. We also have the power of Jesus Christ in the Sacraments of the Church that gives us grace and strength. Let us love the Lord our God with all our hearts, all our souls and all our minds. Let us love

our neighbor as ourselves!

CATHOLIC CHARITIES NORTH DAKOTA SUNDAY OCTOBER 24-25! Please join us in your parish or online at: www.CatholicCharitiesND.org to celebrate Catholic Charities Sunday on October 24-25. This year there has been an increased need for our charity care and other services, and so we especially need your support! Watch our video to learn how we are adapting to reach those in need during the pandemic and increasing outreach by adding a new guardianship program for the elderly and mental health issues, starting telehealth for our counseling services, and expanding our AASK program and adding ND Post-Adopt services! You can help by letting others know about these exciting changes, and assisting your neighbors in need with a generous donation! Learn more, watch the new video, and give securely online at www.CatholicCharitiesND.org or Facebook. Together let’s celebrate “US” – United and Strong!

HOLY CROSS "HOLIDAY COLLECTIONS" CRAFT SHOW Due to the fact that part of the event would have taken place in the school gym, which will be unavailable to us this year because of Covid, the committee has decided to cancel the event. Also, crowd size restrictions may be imposed by city or state authorities. HOWEVER, the Crooked Pint fundraiser for the show will still be held at the Crooked Pint Monday, November 16 from 5pm to 9pm where 15% (with voucher) of your purchases (including all beverages) will go towards the craft show for this year. The Crooked Pint has also agreed to honor the 15% voucher for Take-Out as well. Please look for the voucher in your November Newsletter, future Bulletins & at the church office.
