OVERSEAS FRIENDS OF BJP CANADA
Press release (February 4, 2014)
OFBJP Canada ‘Run For Unity’ and mission 272+ Modi
Hundreds of Overseas Friends of Bhartiya Janata Party (OFBJP) Canada supporters of Narendra Modi braved through the winter storm to ‘Run For Unity’ on February 1, 2014 at Swami Narayan Mandir and Cultural Centre, Mississauga. The program began with greetings from Dr. Rajesh Shukla, BJP Central Committee member and Shri Vijay Jolly, convener of OFBJP. The Convener of OFBJP Canada Toronto, Dr. Azad Kaushik read the message of Bhartiya Janata Party President Shri Raj Nath Singh and the party’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Shri Narendra Modi, specially sent for the occasion, who stated that this historic program shall further cement Indo-‐Canadian friendship. The rally in support of Modi was also an occasion to reconnect with Canadian Citizens of Indian Origin with the cultural and historical heritage of India. The participants took a pledge to support for 272+ Mission of the BJP in the upcoming 2014 parliamentary elections in India through their friends and relatives in India. A booklet ‘Overseas Friends of BJP on the Path of Global Progress’ and a compact disc ‘Priya Pravasi’ by the famous poet Gajendra Solanki were released to mark the occasion. The official OFBJP Canada Website (www.ofbjpcanada.org) developed by kaushikbhai Patel was launched given the overwhelming support for Modi and need for an accurate source of information, apart from existing interactions through social media like Twitter and Facebook. The Co-‐Founder of ‘Canada-‐India Foundation’, Mr. Ajit Someshwar in his keynote address highlighted the community’s concern with regard to decline of India during the decade long Congress led UPA government misgovernance at cultural, defense, economic, and foreign policy fronts. He mentioned that such a situation was unacceptable, as it had lowered the stature of India as a modern nation and a mature democracy. While Mr. Pankaj Dave exhorted all the participants to actively join 272+ movement, Mr. Naresh Chavda outlined how NRIs and Canadian Citizens of Indian Origin could contribute towards the movement. The program host Mr. Anil Shringi added to the spirits with the special anecdotes together with Mrs. Premal Niak, a celebrated singer in GTA, who enthralled the audience with inspiring songs. Two special video presentations ‘Bhajapa Ke Bhadhte Kadam’ and poem recitation by former Prime Minister Shri Atal
