TASK 5 In the passage that follows, certain words and phrases are underlined and numbered. Below the text, you

will find alternatives for the underlined part. You are to choose the one that best expresses the idea, makes

the statement correct and appropriate for standard written English or is worded most consistently with the

style and tone of the passage as a whole. If you think the original version is best, choose "NO CHANGE”

(D). There is an example (0) at the beginning.

Why you need a paper diary in your life in 2019 How do you plan your life? New 0research shows that more of us are ditching our phone calendars in favour of proper

paper diaries. About time. Birthdays, meetings, appointments, holidays, nights out and many, many invitations for

coffee. For a lot of us, all of these activities 1will be entered into a brand new, clean-leafed paper diary.

A report from last year shows 2over half of us still prefers to use a paper diary not a digital calendar, while

around 8 percent of respondents replied ‘don’t know’ 3, that is probably their dumb answer to any question

regarding their future plans.

It cannot be that we’re all simply Luddites. But diaries retain a waft of romance and a nostalgic link to our

past. Turning a page and seeing it written up is a neat way of keeping yourself safe from forgetting things. It

does keep you straight 4on the path not to let people down. 5Although digitized plans are to be deleted with the same ephemeral tap-tap 6from whence they came, ink on

paper literally draws us into the real world. When a digital appointment is erased, it’s like it never happened.

And while a written reminder won’t necessarily stop you cancelling, it’ll still be there 7reminding you of what

you are missing.

We flake on each other at the drop of a new Netflix series, yes, but ditching a plan we 8previously felt had

mattered enough to commit it to paper seems that much more grave, a reminder that we’re letting our former

selves down. Making physical marks on paper 9can in itself be beneficial albeit the act of writing things down

is actually a stress-buster.

So 10there you have that for a more organised, less flakey and stress-free 2019, you need a paper diary. https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/esmagazine/why-you-need-a-paper-diary-in-2019-a4021646.html
