1 ICD-10-PCS ICD-10-PCS The International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) is a proposed new procedure coding system that is being developed as a replacement for ICD-9-CM, Volume 3. ICD-10-PCS contains a multi-axial, seven-character alphanumeric code structure that: provides a unique code for all substantially different procedures and allows new procedures to be easily incorporated as new codes. ICD-10-PCS is being developed with the support of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Ser vices (CMS), and it has not yet been adopted for implementation to replace ICD-9-CM, Volume 3.
