The OptiSwitch® 9000 series is an intelligent platform with a comprehensive traffi c management suite with distributive modular software and hardware architecture. The incorporation of cutting-edge technology enables it to meet current and future needs. Robust and highly fl exible, it can be applied to provide telecommunications applications and is suited for next generation inter-converged IP and Ethernet networks.

The product line is targeted for providers’ Central Offi ces, street cabinets, and Multi-Tenant Units (MTUs) basements or Mini-PoPs, and is the ideal solution for deployments, especially where utilization of minimal rack space is critical.

System Architecture

OptiSwitch® 9000 series is a high-performance system with non-blocking hardware and software architecture engineered for deployment in new demanding Ethernet network environments to support the provider’s value-added services offering.

The platform offers a unique combination of features and optical interfaces that enable easy and fl exible fi eld confi gurations while making it ideal for maintenance and inventory.

Back-to-back installation in Telco racksThe OptiSwitch® 9000 series’ 10-inch depth design enables the installation of two systems, back-to-back in standard 19-inch Telco racks. This feature enables doubling the ‘port-per-rack’ density.

Front facing system confi gurationThis feature eliminates the need to dismount the system for maintenance or installation of new hardware following initial installation.

Fiber guard/protection tray The front fi ber tray is indented in relation to the front panel to allow additional space for connectors and cabling to be conveniently connected to the rack. This indentation is ideal for installations of high-density fi ber optic cables, where connector space is critical for connector integrity.

Optical SFP interfacesSFP interfaces provide unmatched deployment fl exibility to enable versatile multimode, singlemode, and single fi ber connections, or even shared physical fi ber CWDM or DWDM connections – simply by means of a specifi c SFP. In addition, the OptiSwitch® 9000 series offers the optional MultiService optical WDM module (O9-ADCxx) for Add/Drop and aggregation from its optical interfaces to a single outgoing fi ber.

OptiSwitch® 9000 Quality of ServiceCarriers can offer different types of traffi c/services carried into IP/Ethernet networks with better control in order to reduce the load from their core networks, using the following features:

The OptiSwitch® 9000 series enables a value-added network infrastructure, with end-to-end QoS. The OptiSwitch® 9000 advanced ASIC design supports full CoS and QoS including classifi cation, rate limiting, shaping, weighted round-robin scheduling, and strict priority for lower delay, low jitter and guaranteed throughput in real-time applications, including voice over IP, video-on-demand, and IP TV services. For network convergence applications that have a clear boundary between customer’s and carrier’s networks, Layer 3 (IP ToS) and Layer 2 CoS (802.1p) can be mapped/marked to preserve priorities or map them into predefi ned profi les set by the carrier.

SecurityThe OptiSwitch® 9000 series offers advanced security capabilities that can provide protection against malicious attacks while enabling Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA). The internal security engine can administer vast Access Lists and advanced features such as port security, and set of Layer 2-4 network traffi c security policies.

Access Control List (ACL) mechanismsThe OptiSwitch® 9000 ASIC-based technology enables a secure environment, preventing Denial of Service (DoS) attacks by using a range of layer-independent ACL together with QoS protective techniques such as rate limit for per-service based streams, source MAC address learning limit, and comprehensive IP ACL rules. Each Access list has an action rule that determines whether a packet will be forwarded or dropped or rate limited in case of an unsuccessful hit. If a packet satisfi es an ACL rule at any layer, various handling actions can be defi ned.

Per-service performance monitoringThe OptiSwitch® 9000 series enables the collection of extensive statistics and diagnostics to enable fl exible billing, traffi c planning and rapid troubleshooting. Thanks to this spectrum of statistics, service providers can better tune their network operation, in general, and bandwidth, in particular, and charge customers accordingly.The spectrum includes:

• Statistics profi les (packets and bytes counters) • Ingress and egress byte statistics used by subscriber/ service (VLAN-EVC) or per class • Counters per physical port per CoS • Counters per queues

OptiSwitch® 9000 MPLSThe OS9000 series enables Layer 2 VPN services based on Ethernet over MPLS protocol. It supports Martini MPLS L2VPN, and Hierarchical VPLS (H-VPLS) PE-r spoke services that scale the VPLS service and simplifi es multipoint topology. The MPLS L2VPN offers Virtual Leased Line (VLL) services or Pseudo Wire Emulation Edge-to-Edge (PWE3) regardless of traversing protocols. The MPLS functionality is enforced with highly fl exible mechanisms to create traffi c engineering (RSVP-TE/CR-LDP) connection-oriented paths and predifi ned rules for protection.

Management - OAMThe OS9000 Series control plane incorporates a list of highly manageable feature that offers ensured interaction with carrier’s OSS and NMS platforms, based on industry standard Southbound out-of-band or in-band interfaces. In addition, it can be managed via MRV’s MegaVision-Pro NMS to have complete GUI and Northbound gateway (XML, TL1 & SNMP) of an entire map of clustered devices for confi guration, performance analysis, and inventory control. The OS9000 incorporates enhanced standards compliant MEF OAM and gives the service provider the ability to monitor the network and provision services, and promptly determine the location of faults remotely from the network operation center

Copper TDR - Virtual Cable Diagnostics The OS9000 incorporates copper TDR that can identify problems with CAT5 copper cables on a customer’s site such as opens, shorts and wrong impedance. The copper port operates as an extension to localized servers or any service over CAT5/CAT6 in a radius of up to 100 meters. VCD™ feature offers a simple command through which we can remotely analyze the copper lines and get a clear status of the following possible problems:

1. Report of cable shorts 2. Cut on a cable and its location3. Impedance problems (connectors or bad quality cable)

Optical Performance Level Monitoring (Digital Diagnostics)The OS9000 Series supports the SFP Digital Diagnostics standard (as per SFF-8472). A powerful OPM tool, it provides access to a number of real-time SFP operating parameters such as optical TX/RX power, voltage and temperature, as well as component information such as vendor code, serial number and wavelength. The information provided by Digital Diagnostics, together with alarm and warning thresholds, enables a network administrator to identify potential problems in optical transmission and take preemptive action before any service outage actually occurs.

Link Fault Refl ection/PropogationThe link fault refl ection propogates the fault from network interface to user interface. Such functionality is confi gurable and operated on LOS fault that will trigger the user link to down mode. In scenario of network interfaces protection, the fault propogation will be triggered only after the LOS of both network interfaces.

CES Module descriptionThe EM9K-CES-4E1/T1 modules can be hosted in the OS9024M-210Gx model and enable Circuit Emulation Services (CES) functionality transporting 4 full structured or unstructured E1/T1 circuits over an Ethernet/IP/MPLS networks. The modules comply with IETF PWE3 SAToP and CESoPSN industry standards, as well as with the Metro Ethernet Forum’s MEF-8 specifi cations. The modules perform emulation of T1 or E1 synchronous circuits by incorporating TDM bitstreams into packets and transmitting them over packet-switched networks as streams of packets. These streams are referred to as pseudo-wires (PW) or Ethernet Virtual Circuits (EVC) (tagged with VLAN or MPLS labeled) and marked with real-time priority for strict priority forwarding and minimal latency, jitter & packet loss. A pseudo-wire can transport a

full TDM circuit or a bundle of time slots from a TDM structured circuit.
