Day 1 : PANGKALAN BUN - KUMAI PORT - TANJUNG HARAPANArrive at Pangkalan Bun, on the island of Borneo, better known by the Indonesians as Kalimantan. Upon arrival at the airport your guide will be waiting for you, transfer to the port of Kumai about 15-20 minutes by car where we will embark on a great adventure! We arrive to our traditional wooden boat called klotok. Our guide will reconfirm with the crew that everything is ready and start the cruise up the river in the famous Sekonyer River aboard a klotok. If your flight arrives early (before 11.30 AM), we can arrive in time to the rehabilitation center of Tanjung Harapan where at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the rangers of the national park feed the Orangutans and you can have the first close encounters with them. The translation of Tanjung Harapan is Cape of Hope. This first camp is around wetlands and in the afternoon, there are more mosquitoes so make sure you put on enough mosquitoes repellent. After visiting this Rangers Camp, you will continue upstream, resting on the Boat, while we search for animals in the vicinity of the Sekonyer River. This afternoon it is very frequent to see groups of proboscis monkeys and monkeys in the treetops, jumping from one branch to another, or even see monitors or crocodiles lizards in the shallow waters of the sides of the river. Prepare for sunset, the boat moored on one side of the river to spend the night.

Meals : Lunch - DinnerAccommodation : Klotok Boat

Sail along the Sekoyer river looking for wildlife that approaches the waters, enjoy the the proboscis monkeys cross in front of the Klotok, see the Orangutans and macaques, even with luck,

you will be able to see how some crocodile comes to the surface to take a breath before submerging or leaving to the dark waters. Exploring beyond the area, we find the Dayak people,

once hunters of heads, living isolated from the rest of humanity, fishing, hunting and gathering. They share the jungle with the orangutan !!!

Day 2 : PONDOK TANGGUI - CAMP LEAKEY - TREKKAfter an extraordinary breakfast, we will go in time to see the Tanggui camp at the time of feeding animals (9 AM). Sooner or later you will see how the branches of the treetops begin to move and then you will see the silhouettes of the Orangutans arriving slowly to the feeding platform. Tanggui was a release camp for young Orangutans that were rehabilitated, and they continue to add food every day, to prevent the Orangutans from leaving because of lack of food, which could cause them end up outside the National Park, with the following risk of falling into traps of settlers or fields of palm oil plantations.

After the Orangutans begin to leave, you will return to the klotok again to go further up the river. You will see how the coloration of the river changes and you will have the opportunity to see crocodiles and large lizards, together with Gibbon’s and proboscis Monkeys.

Arrival at Camp Leakey, the old orangutan research and rehabilitation center since 1971, when a student at UCLA Los Angeles University, Birutte Galdikas began studying the Orangutans there. The name Camp Leaky comes from Birutte’s own teacher, the Paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey. At least 200 orangutans had already been cured and returned to the jungles thanks to this center. However since 1995, the Government of Indonesia has banned the introduction of more Orangutans in this camp, so Orangutans are increasingly adapting more to freedom. To this day, this camp is used as an investigation into the behavior and feeding of Orangutans. You will take advantage of your guide to explore the interiors of the jungle a bit to look for orangutans in freedom and other animals. At 14.00 you can see the feeding time of the Orangutans. You can also visit the small museum made by the scientist Dr. Birute Galdikas. At the end of observing the orangutans in this camp and if the weather and conditions permit, we will make a gentle trek through the jungle back to the ship to look for orangutans in freedom and other animals, on the way we will have the opportunity to know by hand our local guides, some of them born in the jungle, how to look for animals or carnivorous plants or simply, listen to their experience of life in the jungle. The jungles of Borneo, have given life and house to the settlers for millions of years. They are jungles that under the eyes of grandparents are able to give everything you need. Food, water, medicines, yes ... Never put anything in your mouth without the recommendation of your guide. In the afternoon, if it does not rain, the boat will be docked near a firefly congregation and you can enjoy the show of its luminescence.Meals : Breakfast - Lunch - DinnerAccommodation : Klotok Boat

Day 3 : KUMAI - PANGKALAN BUN - BAKONSU VILLAGEAfter breakfast, we make a final sail towards Kumai, where we will approach the small port of the speedboats. You must protect everything that you do not want to get wet, because during the 4 hours of fast sail upstream, the spraying of the water may fall on the boat. The crew will help you cover everything so that we avoid getting wet. Using sunscreen and earplugs helps to spend those four hours without discomfort.

We will go up the Arut River, until we reach another branch where we will take the Lamandau River. On the way we will go through indigenous villages and river workers, people making their living near the river, we will pass some rapids with caution. You will stop on the way to be able to have lunch. Upon reaching the town of Bakonsu, our guide will take you to the Long House (they are the typical houses of the Dayak tribes in Borneo, very long houses where almost a village lives inside).

Upon arrival we will realize the kindness of the town. Normally they celebrate that people from outside come to visit them, because for them it is a pride that people from so far travel so much to be able to keep them company. Due to that on arrival it is normal to celebrate this visit with dances and some other local liquor! After walking around, the communal dinner with the whole tribe arrives, and then they will ring the bell, with which the whole town will gather to do dances and enjoy the night with what they call Pesta Menarik Horn Bill (Horn Festival Bill)

Meals : Breakfast - Lunch - DinnerAccommodation : At the local house (Long House)

Sleeping in the klotok means having a greater opportunity of encounters with wildlife, such as sightings of crocodiles (you cannot jump into the water!!!). Also see the birds, several species of apes and the sound of the jungle at sunset from the two sides of the river. See animals approach the river to drink water with a constant vigil to not end up in the jaws of some lucky crocodile, a family of orangutans, and dawn. Our crew will wake you up early so you do not miss the concert of the dawn in the Borneo Jungles.Did you know that in Kalimantan orangutans live much of the time on the ground, and only climb the trees to eat and/or rest? And yet on the neighboring island of Sumatra, they rarely go down to the ground? This is because in the forests of Sumatra (although unfortunately less and less) there are tigers, and yet in Borneo the orangutans have no natural predators so they can be peacefully “walking” through the forest. The ship is spacious, and there are several sizes depending on how many you are. It is completely covered with a roof and all customers sleep in the upper part, while the crew sleeps in the lower part.

The boat has mattresses, sheets and pillows, but it is recommended that you bring your own sleeping bag. The ship also has an anti mosquito net, a plastic tarp that goes down in case of rain and one or two small baths, that although the toilet seats are western style, it is still manual to flush using a water dipper.

If you stay in a hotel in Pangkalan Bun prior to trip, we need to know the hotel details at the latest the day before at 14.00 (local time), so we are able to perfectly organize the transfers.

To be able to enjoy the first feeding platform the klotok the boat should leave the port at 12.00 PM at the latest.
