1. Sing the Song, “Kookaburra”

(Australian song; Mrs. Alice Price)

Koo-ka-bur-ra sits on an old gum tree;

Merry, -merry, -king of the bush is he

Laugh, koo-ka-bur-ra laugh;

Koo-ka-bur-ra, Gay your life must be.

Discuss about the song:-

An old gum tree is Kookaburra’s home.

2. Pupils find out about different kinds of human homes.

Pupils find books and magazines showing pictures of modern and

traditional homes in other countries and from earlier times. Teacher displays

books showing such as Native Thai houses, American houses, European

houses and Chinese house boats and Egyptian mud and straw homes, etc.

Pupils discuss what it would be like to live in the different kinds of

homes. Pupils also discuss how homes in large cities around the world are

alike in many ways.

Pupils discuss and make a photograph or picture collage of different

kinds of homes, they found out about. And they write short-short story, such

as “Homes in Japan have very few pieces of furniture. Japanese people

seldom do not sit on chairs. They sit on mats. That is why their tables are very

low. They usually sleep on mats spread on the floor. They use rice bags or

small wood blocks for pillows. One can move about freely in the rooms

because there is so much space.”

3. Pupils focus on special times at homes.

Pupils share information about how special occasions and holidays are

celebrated in their homes.

:- I go to the temple with my mother every week.

I play ball every Saturday.

I play ball with my brother and my father.

We go for a picnic and sight seeing with our family, once a month.

We have the birthday-party with our family and we have a birthday-cake.

4. Pupils illustrate posters showing themselves in favorite place at home and tell

a few sentences about how they feel when they are in that place.

5. Pupils plan and tell about “a home away from home,” such as a tree house, a

basement, a relative’s home, or even a corner of a room that they designate

and decorate as theirs.

Pupils draw detailed picture of their “dream homes”

“Most of children like to live on the tree house. The tree house is very

small. It is made of wood and paper or light materials. If we go into the forest,

we better sleep on the tree house than on the ground.”

I love the home on the tree,

I fell free on the tree house.

The bird sings very lovely

I can see many birds,

I feel gladly and happy

6. Pupils find out about animal homes.

Pupils find library books about animal homes and share them with the

class, such as:-

The Three Little Pigs

(Milt Banta & AL Dempster)

Once upon a time there were three little pigs who went out into the big

world to build their homes and seek their fortunes.

The first little pig did not like to work at all. He quickly built himself a

house of straw.

The second little pig was building himself a house, too. He did not like to

work any better than his brother, so he had decided to build a quick and easy

house of sticks.

With a hey diddle-diddle

I play on my fiddle,

And dance all kinds of jigs.”

The third little pig was a sober little pig. He was building a house, too,

but he was building his of bricks. He did not mind hard work, and he wanted a

stout little, strong little house.

I build my house of bricks.

I have no chance,

To sing and dance,

For work and play don’t mix.”

and The New Puppy

Johny has a brand-new puppy.

.............................

Spot is small and he is not very happy.

He has just left seven brothers and sisters and his mother’s safe, warm

side.

.............................

Johny puts a warm bottle under Spot’s blanket.

He places a ticking clock nearby.

Now Spot feels warm and he hears the friendly tick-tick of the clock.

He feels better. He doesn’t cry anymore. He falls asleep instead.

Discuss about the houses of three little pigs and the puppy.

7. As a class pupils take a guided walking tour of a park or wild life refuge and

point and animal homes.

Pupils draw pictures of their favorite kinds of animal homes and dictate

sentences about why they like them.

Pupils make up rhymes and poems and short story about “home” and

sing a song.

8. Pupils consider ways in which they share at home.

Pupils discuss how people to all familiar must share space and

responsibilities at homes.

Pupils make picture-booklets showing how they share things at home,

such as meals, toys books, fun and pet care and painting.

Pupils consider how their classroom is a “home.”

Draw the web.

9. Pupils explore feelings about moving to new homes.

Pupils who have moved to new homes share their experiences with the

class.

Pupils brainstorm ideas about what it means to feel “at homes”

Pupils make up a group story about a child who moves to a new home,

and teacher records the story.

** You can compare the feelings with Spot:-

“Spot is small and he is not very happy.

He has just left seven brothers and sisters and his mother’s safe,

warm side.

So Johnny strokes him gently and talks to him quietly.

He doesn’t hug him or squeeze him or shout or run about—that would

frighten Spot.

Spot is a puppy. He isn’t big and strong yet.

This is the way Johnny picks up his puppy so the puppy won’t get hurt.

One hand under Spot’s back legs. The other hand under his chest

(1) Is there any one feel like Spot when you have moved to new home?

(2) Who takes care of you when feel like that?

(3) Do you feel better when your mother takes care of you?

(4) How do you take care of your parents, sister or brother?

(5) How do you mean when you say “I feel like home here!”?
