Parents want….1. To receive value for their time2. To give value3. To feel valued4. To have fun5. The best for all children
Purpose
• The purpose of Padres Estrellas is to build upon the Commission’s recent successes in outreach to Latino families by exploring and engaging parents as partners.
• How? We will harness the resources of Latino-serving community organizations in five regions across the state to recruit, train, and retain five Padres Estrellas (Star Parents) who will be instrumental in developing and sustaining relationships with Latino families in their respective communities to boost educational success and equity across the state.
Justification
CHE has its “Big Goal” for 60 percent of Hoosiers to have an educational credential or training beyond high school.
Latino learners now make up 12% of our K-12 system and fewer than 15% of working age Latinos hold a college degree. To meet our Big Goal, we must work to effectively engage Latino students and their parents.
