This past week I found myself standing with many of you as you walked through val- leys of sickness and even death in your families. It was an honor to sit with you in your homes, hospital rooms, and businesses where we went before the Lord together to seek mercy, comfort, and peace in the storms of your lives. For so many of you, your faith encourages me and often keeps me going through my own struggles for faith at times. Some may think it morbid or a little crazy to cherish those moments when I get the honor of sharing and sometimes simply remind- ing you of God’s precious promises found in His Word. But it is an honor and even a joy to walk with you to the gates of heaven to encourage you to let that precious loved one go into the loving arms of our Savior or to help you trust God with the future as it unfolds. It is sometimes gut wrenching to see the tears flow down your hurt- ing faces, faces that I have grown to love dearly, but I always stand knowing that God loves you deeply and His grace will be suf- ficient (2 Cor. 12:9). Let me share a passage with you that encourages me as I try to encourage you to Pastor’s Corner hold on and to fight for faith. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction,…For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abun- dance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. Our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our suffer- ings, so also you are sharers of our com- fort” (2 Cor. 1:3-7) As you keep reading in that section of Scripture you will find that Paul does not deny that the suffer- ing is real, intense, and even life threatening. This comfort is not a result of denying the pain or pre- tending that you are so spiritually strong that you are “fine.” This is comfort that comes from the Lord in the very heart of your terrible suffering while you fight for faith. I couldn’t help but think I was writing the first para- graph of this entry that I used the words walk, stand, and sit. The con- text was walking, standing, and sitting while ministry was taking place in service to the Lord and His body – the church. Contrast that with what we read in Psalm 1. In that beautiful Psalm we are told not to walk with the wicked, not to stand with sinners, or sit with scoffers. Friends, this is an admonition from Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain .” 1 Corinthians 15:58

Dear Smyrna Family,

Welcome to the second quarter of 2017. As an-other year rolls along, I find myself thankful for the privilege of walking this path with you. This past week I found myself standing with many of you as you walked through val-leys of sickness and even death in your families. It was an honor to sit with you in your homes, hospital rooms, and businesses where we went before the Lord together to seek mercy, comfort, and peace in the storms of your lives. For so many of you, your faith encourages me and often keeps me going through my own struggles for faith at times.

Some may think it morbid or a little crazy to cherish those moments when I get the honor of sharing and sometimes simply remind-ing you of God’s precious promises found in His Word. But it is an honor and even a joy to walk with you to the gates of heaven to encourage you to let that precious loved one go into the loving arms of our Savior or to help you trust God with the future as it unfolds. It is sometimes gut wrenching to see the tears flow down your hurt-ing faces, faces that I have grown to love dearly, but I always stand knowing that God loves you deeply and His grace will be suf-ficient (2 Cor. 12:9). Let me share a passage with you that encourages me as I try to encourage you to

Pastor’s Corner hold on and to fight for faith. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction,…For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abun-dance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. Our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our suffer-ings, so also you are sharers of our com-fort” (2 Cor. 1:3-7)

As you keep reading in that section of Scripture you will find that Paul does not deny that the suffer-ing is real, intense, and even life threatening. This comfort is not a result of denying the pain or pre-tending that you are so spiritually strong that you are “fine.” This is comfort that comes from the Lord in the very heart of your terrible suffering while you fight for faith.

I couldn’t help but think I was writing the first para-graph of this entry that I used the words walk, stand, and sit. The con-text was walking, standing, and sitting while ministry was taking place in service to the Lord and His body – the church. Contrast that with what we read in Psalm 1. A Message from. . . Aaron Bobo, Assoc. Pastor

Happy Spring church family!

I'm so thankful for the warm weather and beautiful flowers and I'm sure you are as well.

This month contains many exciting days and events with it in the life of our church. One of those events is Secret Church 2017. This year's theme is a crucial one as we will be studying and learning about the reliability and authority of the Scriptures. Dr. Platt always does a wonderful job of preparing a great out-line every year and I'm sure this year will be no exception.

As we talk about the Scripture, we must acknowledge that every person must decide what they believe about its authority and reliability in their own lives. Unfortunately, many folks (even believers) have cho-sen to allow other mitigating factors to dictate what they believe. Indeed, entire denominations have abandoned the true teaching of the Word in order to fit in with the prevailing ideology of the culture, and each of these groups have experienced great decline or even extinction.

This is because the truth found in the Bible is what brings life! Church family, our hearts desire as pastors is for our church to be firmly rooted in the Bible. We believe that faithfulness to teach and stand on the Scriptures is our calling as believers and that God will bless our congregation as we trust in Him!

With that in mind, I want to encourage each of you to register for Secret Church so that we can grow to-gether both in our knowledge of the Word of God as well as our conviction that it is true.

You can register online at smyrna1897.org, as well as at the registration table in the foyer or by calling the church office. Registration costs $6 which covers your study guide for the evening. We will begin at 4pm on Saturday April 29th and run until around 8:30 pausing for a fellowship meal around 6pm. The church will provide the meat and drinks and each family is asked to bring a side and/or desert. Childcare is offered free of charge as well!

Devotedly,

Pastor Aaron
