In the early 1980s, one of pop music’s biggest innovators, Madonna, was just another girl with a dream, creating a buzz for herself in downtown NYC, while her casual love interest (acclaimed artist Jean-Michael Basquiat) was virtually a household name. This jaded love story of two of popular culture’s most prevalent pioneers in their respective crafts, is one that is all too familiar — two worlds merging into one, only to realize that their adverse realities would be the very thing to tear them apart.
Like its renowned predecessors, Romeo & Juliet or perhaps that of Cleopatra & Marc Anthony, “Painted Virgin” has a distinct way of romanticizing the unconventional aspects of true love, without compromising either party’s integrity. The story of Madonna & Basquiat – both as individuals and as lovers – surpasses generations. The fascination with their artistry should remain a constant reminder of the greatness produced during their respective eras.
As a potential benefactor for this production, there is a great deal of leverage involved with such a rewarding opportunity. The Baron Jay Family Foundation (BJFF), our non-profit partner for this production, recognizes the various national and community game changers in their respective fields, and lends their efforts as well as their resources to underprivileged youth by way of internships & summer job opportunities. BJFF has agreed to grant tax deductible contributions for advertising sponsors and business investors.
