Imagine if you will, a classroom without a teacher; what do we do? Who will teach the students?

When a teacher is not able to be in their classroom, substitute teachers are called upon to take on

the daunting task of covering someone else’s classroom.

In some instances, the substitute teacher takes on a long-term position in a classroom, offering

some stability to the school, the classroom, and most importantly, the students. The substitute

teacher assumes the role of classroom teacher and takes on the daily challenges in the classroom.

They have the responsibility of teaching the material to the students the best that they can, so the

students are ready and prepared to move up to the next grade level.

Often times, long-term substitute teachers are attending school themselves, and are working dou-

ble-duty to ensure they do the best for their students, while maintaining their own educational goals.

At Robison, we are fortunate to have five dedicated, long-term substitutes filling classrooms and

teaching students everyday. Thank you for all that you do for students. We appreciate you.

On March 22, 2021, Robison Middle

School, along with the other middle

schools in CCSD, opened its doors to

6th graders in the hybrid model. It

has been a long time, and students

and staff were excited to be back,

albeit in a limited capacity. The 7th

and 8th graders were welcomed back

on April 06, 2021, as it was their turn

to return to school in the hybrid mod-

el. It is nice to see students in per-

son, and not just stare at avatars on

a computer screen all day.

What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?

Social and emotional learning provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers, and life. Through weekly SEL lessons, students are encouraged to practice and build their skills in five core categories: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.

When will the next Bike Raffle occur?

Friday, April 30, 2021

(Please note: Students must attend clas-ses the day of the raffle to be eligible to win. Winners will be announced the following school day)

How do I enter into the next SEL Bike Raffle?

Students may earn raffle tickets by par-ticipating in a variety of individual and collaborative projects centered around the topics of the weekly social emotional lessons. Be sure to ask your HALO teacher for a full list of entry opportuni-ties and instructions in addition to the ones listed below.

Dr. Michael Morrisett was a kind, caring, and all-around

“good guy.” He inspired many people to be their best,

and for some, this was done without ever meeting “in

person.” According to Ms. Mayer, who worked with Dr.

Morrisett in the classroom, she had spoken to a gentle-

man who had never met Dr. Morrisett in person, but that

the time he had spent with him through distance learning

was an inspiration. He was so kind and helpful to him.

When he needed guidance, he turned to Dr. Morrisett,

and he was always there willing to help. That’s the kind

of person he was.

Before venturing into the education field, Dr. Morrisett

was in the casino industry for many years. After some

health issues, he left the casinos and volunteered in a

Special education classroom specializing in Autism. It

didn’t take long for him to realize his passion for teaching, and he attended school full time,

while working full time, and taking care of his family. Dr. Morrisett continued his education,

and received his PhD in Special Education from UNLV.

Dr. Morrisett spent 14 years with the Clark County School District, and worked in many spe-

cialized programs, including Region Special Education Facilitator, Special Education Instruc-

tional Facilitator at the school level, and of course in the classroom; this is where he found the

true joy of education. He loved his students, and was available to parents day and night.

Dr. Morrisett was truly an inspiration to everyone around him. “One of my few remaining memories from my first year of teaching was when I ran into Dr. Morrisett in the hall one day. I probably looked overwhelmed and anxious, but Dr. Morrisett stopped me to say that he was glad I was at Robison, he loved my energy, and that the school was lucky to have people like me. Hearing that kept me going on a rough day. That small but powerful gesture of kindness has stayed with me over the years, and the light and energy Dr. Morrisett brought to all at Robison is deeply missed,” said Ms. Wilson.

Dr. Morrisett, you truly were an inspiration, a role model, a mentor, and a good friend. You are a great man and are dearly missed by all. From one golfer to another; may you forever be in the fairway and on the green in regulation putting for birdie. Remem-ber: Everything breaks to-ward ‘the Strip’.

God bless my friend.

- M. Nalbone

The garden that now sits behind the 700 building, is slated to be dedicated to Dr. Morrisett on

April 24, 2021. This garden was made possible through the timeless efforts put forth by

Dr. Morrisett; from writing the grant application, securing the grant, getting equipment, breaking

ground, planting seeds, and harvesting the crops. He, along with his students, would tend to

the garden, making sure it was maintained, and would harvest the crops when ready for teach-

ers and staff to enjoy.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to providing your students with real-world experi-

ences they will carry with them for a lifetime.

The middle school experience is exciting and new.

Classes that were not available to students in elemen-

tary school are now an option as an elective. What is

an elective course? An elective course is one that is

optional for students; however, students must complete

a certain number of elective courses to receive the nec-

essary credits for promotion. Many of the elective

courses are related to art, music, communication, tech-

nology, theater, or crafts.

The 2021-2021 school year will be the first year that

Robison MS will offer a Mariachi class to students.

That’s right, Mariachi. Mariachi is a genre of regional

Mexican music dating back hundreds of years. It was

the music of country people. The music celebrated the

joys, the struggles, and the triumphs of the Mexican

people. Mariachi is a version of Spanish theatrical or-

chestra; instruments include violins, guitars, and harps.

Groups were small and not known outside of the region

they were from.
