Industry and Association News... Canadian Landscape Standards Now AvailableThe Canadian Nursery Landscape Association and theCanadian Society of Landscape Architects are pleased toannounce the release of the Canadian Landscape Standard(CLS) First Edition. The CLS is a single, authoritative resourcefor landscape construction projects across Canada. For thefirst time, there is a national guideline to set the standard oflandscape work in every province across the country.

Volunteers in every province reviewedthe CLS to ensure that it is user-friendlyand represents conditions of landscapework in all climatic and geographicregions, making the CLS relevant andapplicable to all regions of Canada andavailable in both official languages. The national CLS Steering Committeewill remain in place to develop newsections and continually revise andupdate the document to ensure itsaccuracy and relevance. The CLSwas designed for use by anyonewho specifies scopes or bidson landscape work, includinglandscape architects, landscapedesigners, landscape contractors,

grounds maintenance contractors andgovernment procurement parks departments at all levels.

As a benchmark standard for the landscape horticultureindustry, the CLS will be an indispensable tool to the successof any landscape project that is designed, built and main-tained to this nationally-recognized standard.

“This remarkable collaboration between the BCLNA, BCSLA,CNLA and the CSLA has successfully produced a nationallyunifying set of landscape standards,” said Christene StenhouseLeVatte, past President of the CNLA and Chair of the CLSSteering Committee, “with the goal to effecting better designed, built and maintained green spaces for our Canadian neighbour-hoods, communities, towns and cities…. from coast to coast.”
