  • Part 1. How Hybrid Cars Work

  • 1. because they are more environmentally friendly and reduce our carbon footprint.

    2. Gasoline and electricity (from batteries)

  • With so much emphasis (which is )being placed on the environment, //hybrid cars have emerged as one of the leading ways (one of + 복수명사) that we as individuals can do our bit (do one’s bit: ~~의 역할을 다하다) .

However, electrical batteries have a comparatively low capacity and need regular recharging.

Need regular recharging=need to be recharged regularlly.

사물 주어 need to be p.p.~~될 필요가 있다= need ~ing로 능동태도 사용.

Ex. This computer needs to be repaired=this computer needs repairing.

  • A hybrid car combines electric motors and a gasoline engine // to give greater performance and longer traveling distances than an electric car.

    Combine A and B

    to give (~~하기 위해서)

The end result is a vehicle (that (주격관계대명사) is better for the environment /but still offers a viable (유용한) means of transport for the owner).

  • Combining an electric motor and a gasoline engine (동명사구가 주어 역할을 하고 있음)// is not as easy as putting them both under the hood and letting them do their own thing // because they each require very different components to driving the transmission.

또한 여기서 them과 they는 앞의 주어인 an electric motor and a gasoline engine을 가리킴.

  • Engineers and hybrid car manufacturers have developed a number of methods to get around this problem.

    a number of (=many) + 복수 가산명사+ 복수 동사

    Get around problem

  • The electrical power (which was ) created by this generator can then be used to either recharge the batteries or to drive the transmission and provide the car with (provide A with B) the propulsion power it (the car) needs.

  • One of the biggest advantages in creating a hybrid car is that the gasoline combustion engine can be considerably smaller than the one(engine) in a standard gasoline car.

One of the 최상급 복수명사 +단수동사 (is)

This means that the car will use substantially less gasoline while (it is )being driven under normal circumstances, offering (when it offers) better fuel consumption and less-damaging emissions pumped into the atmosphere.

  • Driving up hill, accelerating, and driving in difficult conditions // (동명사구가 주어역할을 하고 있음) will normally mean that (목적절을 이끄는 접속사 that) the electric motor will give an additional push and ensure that the hybrid car has ample power to perform any task.

Modern hybrid cars work in such a way that it is possible to greatly reduce your fuel consumption // without having a detrimental effect on the performance or range of the car.

=> Have an effect on: ~~에 영향을 미치다.

  • Hey, kids love those little bottles, though.

All right, let the girl eat her garden burger, Waylon.

    As soon as you're done,

I will bring you your favorite.

    Berry cobbler, remember?

Your dad still has it. Every Thursday.

    Thank you. That'd be great.

  • Hey, baby. So, listen, if spring training goes well,

we could be moving to Florida.

Please insert a dollar twenty five for an additional three minutes.

    Mom, where's your cell?

    Okay, don't laugh.

I didn't lose my power cord. It ran away.

    Screaming.

    I literally repel technology now.

    I miss you.

  • Oh, baby, I miss you, too. But tell me more about your school. Now, what are the kids like? Are there any cute guys? Are they being nice to you? They're all very welcoming. Tell me all about it. It doesn't even matter. Yes, it does, honey. I, I have homework to do. I'll talk to you later. Okay. I love you. Love you, too.

I planned to confront him and demand to know what his problem was. But he never showed. Bella! And the next day, another no-show. More days passed. Things were getting a little strange.

  • You all right? Yeah, I'm good. Ice doesn't really help the uncoordinated. Yeah. That's why I had some new tires put on the truck. Old ones were getting pretty bald. Well, probably be late for dinner. I gotta head down to Mason County.

Security guard at the Grisham Mill got killed by some kind of animal. An animal? You're not in Phoenix anymore, Bells. Anyway, I figured I'd lend a hand. Be careful. Always am. And thanks for the tires. Yeah.

  • Prom Committee is a chick thing, but...

I gotta cover it for the paper anyway,

and they need a guy to help choose the music,

so I need your play list.

Hey, listen, um, I was wondering, did you have a date to... - What's up, Arizona? Huh?

How you liking the rain, girl?

Better get used to it, girl.

Yeah, Mike, hey, you're real cute, man.

  • Hello.

I'm sorry, I didn't get a chance to introduce myself last week.

    I'm Edward Cullen.

    You're Bella?

    Yes.

    Onion root tip cells,

that's what's on your slides right now. OK?

So, separate and label them into the phases of mitosis,

and the first partners that get it right are gonna win the Golden Onion.

    All right, good.
