nter-Collegiate Case Study Workshop

This academic year our College organized an inter-collegiate workshop for case preparation and discussion on December 19, 2013. This event had around 10 colleges participating in it and it witnessed a total of more than 80 participants attending the same. The resource persons invited for it were Dr. Navin Punjabi, Assistant Professor, HR College of Commerce, Mumbai and Mr. V. K. Venkatachalam, Management Consultant and freelancer. Both delivered excellent sessions which threw a lot of light on how students should analyze a case study, from both, the knowledge point of view as well as the examinations point of view. Participants came from colleges like : H. R. College, Vivek College, R. D. National College, M. D. College, NSS College, Vidya Vikas Universal College, BJCC. College, Public Night Degree College, DTSS College and SPDT College.

The workshop was designed for a full day. It began with registration at 9.30 am and ended with a Valedictory Session at 4.30 pm.

ultural Activities

The department organized fun days in College, such as Pink, Blue & Chocolate day on December 16, 2013; Saree, tie and rose day on December 17, 2013 and traditional day on December 18, 2013. The traditional day, had a competition through which the Miss Patuck and Mr. Patuck were decided and declared.

The following were the awards won by our students at the inter-collegiate competitions, that they participated in :

• At “Insignia” organized by Mithibai College held on 9th, 10th and 11 December 2013, our students won the second place in T-shirt painting

• First Prize in Rink Football held at Bhavan’s College on December 13, 2013

• “Best College” trophy and won the Consolation Prize in Folk Dance at the Maharashtra Utsav 2013, held on December 16, 2013

• At “Pravaah” 2013 organized by Nagindas Khandwala College of Commerce, Arts and Management Studies held between December 14-18, 2013, our students bagged :

nter Disciplinary Activities

The Accountancy and Mathematics department jointly conducted a quiz competition on December 7, 2013 in which 67 students from the B. Com., BMS and BBI programs participated. The questions designed for the quiz were from both the disciplines.

The Management and the Economics department organized a joint study tour for the B. Com., BMS and BBI students to the NSE campus at Bandra Kurla Complex on December 23, 2013. Around 72 students attended the same. A workshop was conducted at NSE explaining to students the derivative markets, share index formation and the various courses held at NSE.

The College believes in fostering very strong relations with the parents, who can help us better the service given to students. Parents co-operation in the form of feedback is solicited through the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) meets. One such meet was conducted on December 8, 2013 to felicitate the parents of the students who excelled in semesters I & III.

The College had participated in a number of inter-collegiate arts and fine arts competition and won many a laurels. One such event was at the Maharashtra state level, hence, we felt it obligatory to felicitate those parents who co-operated. The meet was held on January 5, 2014. It really made them feel proud of their children’s achievement.

With the elections approaching the College decided to take up a noble cause and help our students procure Voting IDs. Registration camp was organized between January 7-11, 2014, where students could deposit their documents and complete the required procedures.

A Parents Teacher Meet was organized on February 16, 2014 to felicitate all the parents of the students who have been consistently delivering outstanding performances in NSS and Cultural activities.

An active Alumni member, Mr. Tausif Shaikh, delivered an interactive session to the TYBMS batch of students on ‘Opportunities in the Retail Sector’, on February 13, 2014

SS The NSS department which works towards spreading socially responsible messages, enacted street plays for the students on the College ground on December 5, 2013. The messages conveyed were respect for women, fight against domestic violence and safety of girls.

Youth often drift and get into addictions due to changed and desired lifestyles. The department conducted an awareness lecture for the students on ‘Drug Addiction’ on December 14, 2014.

Hemoglobin, an indicator of how healthy our blood is -appropriate levels of it helps us stay fit. On January 18, 2014, the NSS unit conducted a Free Test of Hemoglobin for all female students on the campus. This was followed by a Blood Donation Drive on the same day. There are benefits to donating blood, besides the ones related to it being a healthy process. A bottle of blood from the blood bank is made available at no cost to the kins of those who donate the blood.

A team of NSS volunteers created a donation drive for the adivasi children of Sonave village in Saphale. They collected usable and new items like books, slates, pens, pencils, chalks, school bags, clothes, tiffin boxes etc which could be used by the children while they go to school. Many teaching and non-teaching staff members willingly donated in cash towards the cause. Students too donated many useful items. School bags with the College name printed on it was also distributed among the students, which gave them immense joy. The distribution of collected items was done at the village on January 25, 2014.

Since the July 2005, flood disaster faced by Mumbaiites, training volunteers for self help and to help others in distress during such and other kinds of Disaster has become a trend. A similar kind of training program on Disaster Management was delivered to the NSS volunteers at our College on February 17 – 18, 2014.

The Annual Prize Distribution of the NNS unit was held on January 27, 2014. Prof. Paul, the Area Field Co-ordinator appointed by the University, who is also the Vice-Principal at Rizvi College, was invited as the chief guest for the occasion. All active and sincere volunteers were awarded certificates, trophies and medals, to encourage the students to be more active and creative.

The NSS Unit of the College initiated a very noble cause, “the English Education Program”, at the Mande village. Special classes were held for the students of first to fourth standard at the Zilla Parishad School, Mande. Subjects like English, Mathematics and Science were taught to them in a more interesting way with audio-video facilities. This activity was carried out through the months of December to February. Student volunteers more than willingly participated as resource persons for this noble cause.

In collaboration with Majlis Legal Centre, an NGO working towards conserving Women Rights, the Women Development Cell organized verbal and non-verbal competitions, like, Slogan and Jingle making, Skit, Speech, Singing, Poster making and Collage Drawing & Installation. The event was held on January 30, 2014 and winners of the competitions were awarded with Certificates and cash prizes by Majlis.

The sports department in an attempt to obtain a larger number of participation from students, organized the outdoor games competition for students between 5-10, December 2013 on the College playground. The games contended were volley ball, throw ball, ring football, kabbadi and kho-kho.

The department organized the annual indoor games competition for the students between 11-14, December 2013 in the sports room / ground. The games contended were Carrom, Chess, Badminton and Table Tennis.

The Annual Sports Meet was organized on December 21, 2013. For the event Mr. Macky Lobo, an eminent sports personality and an instructor at Podar School, was invited as a Chief Guest. The games competed through were : a) 100 mtr running race b) 200 mtr running race c) 400 mtr running race d) 4 x 100 mtr running race e) shot-put f) long jump g) sack race and h) tug-of-war.

The prize distribution of the Annual sports meet was held on January 21, 2014. All students who won in the games during the sports meet were felicitated with certificates and medals. To encourage students to participate increasingly in sports activity, the same chief guest, Mr. Macky Lobo was invited and he did the honours.

tudent Development

Energia Wellbeing Pvt. Ltd. was invited on campus to conduct a month long workshop consisting of more than 10 sessions, for students on the theme, ‘Campus to Corporate’. The workshop commenced from January 23, 2014. The workshop consisted of modules like, developing self esteem, being assertive, personality development, grooming for group discussions & personal interviews and resume writing.

The College adopted an entertaining way to spread social messages. In view of this, the film ‘Jai Ho’ was screened for the students on

February 20, 2014, during college hours. The film depicts the need of common man to unite and help one another in times of difficulties against the corrupt people and system, if this be done, the course will be smooth sailing.

At the College we took special and deliberate efforts to make arrangements to develop the overall personality of the students as to prepare them to compete in the outside world. We had short term courses ranging from a duration of 1 -3 months. They were : a) Spoken English & Personality Development : those weak in speaking fluent English and those who wanted to speak better in public forums joined the course b) Entrepreneurship Development Program : students were taught how they can start their own business and what they need to do for

it c) Calligraphy : this course helped them improve their handwriting and also get into more creative writing and d) Film Making Course: the College encouraged and facilitated 5 students to participate along with a teacher, at the Film making course organized by Saher NGO at their centre at Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Students learnt how to create short films. All the intricacies of film making was taught to them. There were students of other Colleges as well and at the end of the course, 3 films on contemporary social issues were made. The issues revolved around alleviating poverty and the problems faced by women in an Indian society.

mployee Development In a strive to reach excellent standards through enhancing productivity, a training program for the non-teaching staff was organized on Tally & Advanced Excel. This will help them work efficiently towards maintaining records in a digitalized format and learning Tally will help them do correct entries into the package thus generating accurate reports. This training program was held on December 8, 2913.

A Faculty Development Program (FDP) was organized for the teachers on February 13, 2014. The theme of the FDP revolved around, ‘Flavours In You’. The facilitator was Mrs. Ambereen Pradhan, Managing Director and Co-founder, Energia Well Being.

areer Guidance

SVIMS, a Business School in Mumbai, visited our campus on February 12, 2014, and had a novel way of informing students of the Post Graduate Management programs conducted at their College. They began with a 15 minutes aptitude test followed by a presentation of the possible opportunities in Management Education after graduation. The shortlisted students of the test were informed and asked to join for a bigger test at their campus on February 26, 2014.

An HR recruiting firm, JobCafe, being entrusted the role of recruiting cabin crew (female) for Jet Airways approached the College to conduct campus placements for the same. They visited campus on February 10, 2014, and shortlisted 5 candidates for the final interview which was held on February 13, 2014, at the Jet Airways office. Results are awaited.

ndustrial Visit

The BMS and BBI students as a part of their curriculum are taken to visit industries, to make them aware through practical viewing, how an industry works and the processes involved. This academic year, the students visited Chandigarh between January 19-25, 2014. The industries visited by them were Vardhaman’s Auro Weaving Mills, Chelsum Industries manufacturing garments, L. S. Industries (garment company) and Winsome Dyeing.

The College Annual Day was celebrated on January 16, 2014. There were a number of leg tapping and breath taking performances. Fashion shows, dance sequences with live singing and musical band, traditional folk dances and singing were some of the enthralling acts enjoyed by everyone in the audience.

On January 26, 2014, the Republic Day celebrations began with the flag hoisting followed by performances of students from the pre-primary section to that of the degree College.

The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony was held on February 25, 2014. Students who participated and won in the intra-collegiate events which were conducted on campus were felicitated with certificates, trophies and medals, as deemed necessary. Awards declared and given, like, MR & MISS PATUCK, BEST STUDENT AWARD (MALE & FEMALE) and felicitation of choreographers for good results at inter-collegiate events were the highlights of the event.

One of the extra-curricular activities conducted by the College was to organize a picnic for the students on December 24, 2014. The venue was, ‘Suraj Water Park’. More than 300 students were taken along, who enjoyed the day spent at the water park.
