Visual Schoolbook
1. Hardcover book / 26 × 19 cm 2011
is an educational book addressed for the youth, precisely for
Gymnasium students. Both the book and its content have been
designed and written by the author. The idea for the book derives
from a real problem and an attempt to solve it,which is the lack of
an educational publication about graphic design for young people in
Poland. It was made in particular, for the youths that don’t receive
education in art schools.
Visual Schoolbook is an answer to the surrounding reality, in which
design is everywhere and plays a crucial part in our daily life. It’s
quality affects the effectiveness of communication, its transfer
and consumer behaviour. Understanding what design is, makes
the recipients appreciate its power and notice the huge value it
has. The book is a work of a graphic designer, it wasn’t created to
speculate, but to explain how design naturally exists in the reality.
One of the projects purposes was to communicate the role of
efficient design, which isn’t only concerned with the form, but, first
of all, is socially responsible. Individual work on all aspects of the
book, allowed to verify my knowledge and skills in the field of graphic
design on many levels. It also required consulting in a wide range
of topics, like graphic design theory, language and later typography
an educational illustration for the youth. The consumer of the book
is barely 13 to 16 years old, which puts him in the group of the most
demanding readers. Because of that fact, written content in Visual
Schoolbook was limited in its volume to a required minimum, while
still aiming to deliver a precise and comprehensive message. Bearing
in mind the potential audience, the language used in the book was
chosen carefully to build a dialog with the young reader.

Pig Slaughterhouse is an infographic book about pork
production. The goal was to visualize this specific place in
a friendly way, even for vegetarians. The project explains the
whole production process from the transport of animals to
selling meat. I created the project by using pictograms, which
refer to ISOTYPE style and method.

8. Map / 80 × 50 cm / made in collaboration with Hanna Sitarz–Pietrzak 2010
One of the important issues concerning the city of Katowice
is the lack of a network of bicycle routes. In a city that already
struggles with traffic jams, parking space and public transport
an alternative means of transport (via bicycle) might improve
the situation. Furthermore traveling by a bicycle is a more
healthy and ecological solution. The project illustrates the
current state of bicycle routes in Katowice, it reveals the
inconsequence of decisions made by the responsible authorities.
In effect this resulted in an incomplete network of bicycle
routes – one that doesn’t allow its users to travel freely from one
point in the city to another. In fact the worst situation is in the
center of the city, where the most important points of interest
for the inhabitants are.
The project visualizes a hypothetical solution, filling the gaps in
an already existing network of bicycle routes.
It aims to inform of the present state of affairs and provides
a possible extention of the already existing routes.

The Map was a re-design of the existing scheme of a tramway
network in Silesia cities. The initial project was illegible due to
ill-considered use of colours and information hierarchy. This
kind of project has to be clear, logical and understandable both
for citizens and tourists. Silesia Tramway map also contains
boards of the city, main interchange stops and directions.

10. Corporate Identity / made in collaboration with Maciej Majer 2011
We were commissioned to create a corporate identity for a small
but ambitious IT company “Beyond the Horizon”. The goal
was to create an identity that would stand out, look different
from the IDs of IT companies that we’ve encountered through
our research. We began on researching the notion of “beyond
the horizon” – what does it mean for us and our client and the
line of work they we’re involved with. The outcome was a logo
design that aims to depict the impossible, infinite and on the
other hand solutions that are accessible and in our reach. The
logo was also meant to show the complexity of IT and a wide
spectrum of possibilities it enables. We were greatly inspired
by the works of M. C. Escher and how they bend the existing
reality. After approval of the logo we started developing the
business cards, other printed material for the CI and finally the
website - all with an emphasis on crafting a coherent design
consistent with the initial vision.

11. Corporate Identity 2010
The aim was to create accurate identity for a small but exclusive
Day Spa studio. Due to the name of the place, I decided to design
minimalistic but illustrative logo of a Geisha profile with
characteristic a hairstyle and make-up. The project consist
of all the demanded CI deliverables (visiting cards, menu of
treatments, flyers, invitations and gifts. Because of the theme
I also decided to create a decorative pattern with blooming
cherry blossoms.
