Bonus Slide:A quick introduction to pre-management:
What is pre-management?-Anticipation of bad behavior
-Addressing of that bad behavior before it has a chance to disrupt class.
Pre-Management
When to use it?-Three situations:
• Before a lesson.• Before an activity.• Before a question.
Pre-Management before a lesson:
Why?
-If you have been experiencing problems in class, remind your students of your class rules. Then, if they break a rule that, there is no excuse.
When?
- At the outset of a lesson, before you begin your material.
How?
- Create a slide or bring in a poster with your class rules on it.- Spend the first 5 minutes of class reciting rules - CFU to make sure that students are clear about expectations and
consequences. - You can and should (!) continue CFU-ing about rules throughout the
class period.
Pre-Management before an activity:
Why?
- To make sure that expectations are clear before the beginning of an activity.
When?
- When laying out the rules for an activity.
How?- While you plan your lesson, think about what types of behavior
might derail its effectiveness. - Once, you’ve come up with a few potential problems, add them into
the activity description.- Explain to class what types of behavior will be unacceptable (be
specific!). For example: If you write an activity that requires something to be passed around, be clear that students are not to THROW the object or HIT other kids with it.
Pre-Management before a question:
Why?
- If a certain student is, for example. 1). A very low talker, 2). Often laughed at by others, or 3). Prone to giving snarky responses. You can:
When?
- Before asking a question.
How?- 1). Reiterate your variant of the rule that states that students should
be quiet when others are talking before asking the question.
- 2). Mention that disrespectful students will lose points.
- 3). Clearly state your expectations for the question again, perhaps giving the student a stern, knowing look as you call on them.
Management: What is a good management plan?- 有效的管理计划是…
1. Clear (Aligned) 清楚 ( 接轨 )2. Consistent 一贯3. Scaffolded 表现越差结果越严重4. Never used 偶尔用
