PEARSON NEWS / PEARSON-NUUS
HOËRSKOOL PEARSON HIGH SCHOOL
ISSUE/UITGAWE: 11 2015
You are probably aware that, in the past 2 weeks, I attended the 12th Convention
of the International Confederation of Principals in Helsinki, Finland. As always
this conference was a wonderful experience. I found this second visit to Helsin-
ki as enlightening as the first one I attended in 1999. Finland is voted amongst
the top 12 countries in the world for the best basic education. Their education system,
referred to as the Finnish Miracle, is one which encourages individuality and
creativity and is a design-lover’s paradise.
Although the culture and schooling practice of
Finland is very different to ours, it was heartening
to realise that there are many things that we are
doing at Pearson of which we can be proud.
Some of the things I have learnt from this visit to
Finland: Silence is important for success; you
need to reclaim your inner peace; be yourself,
everybody else is taken.
An interesting fact is that the speed limit in towns
is 50 km per hour and that 10% of your salary is
deducted if you have any speeding fines!
A big thank you to all parents and learners who supported the Union High Derby Day.
Ek wil graag die hele Pearsongesin vra vir almal se ondersteuning vir hierdie Saterdag,
15 Augustus se Derbydag teen Nico Malan by Pearson.
