¡Desayuno PGTP!

El mes pasado mi esposo tuvo un
viaje de trabajo a Perú, motivo
por el cual me reuní con él en
Lima para tomar una semana de
vacaciones y explorar un poco
este maravilloso país.
Cuando se habla de tomar
vacaciones en Perú, mucha gente
piensa inmediatamente en Machu
Picchu , la ciudad Inca del Siglo
XV ubicada en la región del
Cusco. Sin lugar a dudas este sitio
es maravilloso como podrán
confirmarlo los numerosos
caminantes que se registran cada
año para hacer los Senderos Incas
que conducen a la Ciudadela. Sin
embargo, si quieres una excursión
un poco mas "extrema" , sin
enormes grupos de turistas,
deberías considerar una caminata
a Choquequirao, también llamada
la "Hermana Sagrada de Machu
Picchu¨.
Este sitio se encuentra cerca al
Pico Salcantay en la montaña
Vilcabamba a una altura de
aproximadamente 3,.085 m
(10,121 pies), por encima del
torrentoso río Apurimac y
rodeado de pendientes abruptas.
Choquequirao es mucho menos
accesible que Machu Picchu y por
lo tanto mucho mas tranquilo y
ecológicamente estable aunque
quien sabe por cuanto tiempo.
Al igual que muchos de los
senderos de montaña peruanos,
esta aventura empezó en Cusco,
la antigua capital del Imperio
Inca.
muchos restaurantes deliciosos.
En Cusco nos reunimos con
nuestro guía y tomamos un bus
hacia el hermoso Valle de
Huanipaca donde pasamos la
noche en un sencillo pero
hermoso lodge localizado cerca a
un rio. Ahí nos reunimos con el
resto del equipo; el cocinero , el
dueño de los caballos y al jinete.
Después de una noche de buen
descanso cargamos nuestros
backpacks y nos alistamos para
nuestra aventura. Cruzamos el rio
Apurimac a través de un puente
colgante y empezamos la subida.
Hay un viejo proverbio: "Tu
puedes disfrutar vivir en la cima
de la montaña pero es el camino
el que construye el carácter".
Pienso que es muy apropiado para
esta fauna.

A pesar de que la subida no es
técnica, es muy empinada y en esta
t e m p o r a d a h u b o m u c h o s
desprendimientos de tierra que
hicieron la excursión difícil muchas
veces. No obstante, la vista fue
espectacular, llena de cascadas,
hermosas flores, formaciones rocosas
y el río brotando debajo. Después de
62 montañas rusas y muchos pasos
lentos y cautelosos llegamos al que
sería nuestro hogar durante los
próximos dos días.
La siguiente mañana armamos
nuestra tienda en un una planicie
cerca al S it io Arqueológico
Choquequirao. Lo que vimos en los
siguientes 10 km hizo que el viaje y
todo el esfuerzo valdrían la pena.
El Choquequirao es una ciudad Inca
en ruinas de 1,800 hectáreas de las
cuales sólo el 30-40 % han sido
excavados.
Prepárate tu mismo subiendo y bajando colinas y subiendo y bajando escaleras.
¡DISFRUTA DE TU AVENTURA!

I still remember how things were before. A young fool, that’s what I
was. All of the words that came out of my mouth, all of the nonsense and
childishness; I was oblivious to it all. I don’t know how many times people
were making fun of me, laughing, and I had absolutely no idea about it. Na-
ïve, that’s the word I’m looking for. This stretched on for longer than I
would like to admit.
I remember the inexhaustible hope that radiated from my very soul.
Skipping down the street with a crooked grin, I still believed in so many
things. I was stuck in a small mental utopia that was destined for destruc-
tion by the world outside of my own.
“Why do people destroy the world that God created for us?” I would
ask. “How can people say that He doesn’t exist? The proof is all around us!”
Though I wasn’t raised with a firm religion set in place in my mind, I
still had faith. Not faith in a church, but faith in something greater than I
was, and a very firm faith it was.
“I know that Santa is real! Why does everyone at school say he
doesn’t?” I would yell at Christmas.
“I know that the Tooth Fairy is real! I’ve written her a letter and I’ve
gotten a reply!” I would boast to my classmates.
A pride-filled smile was always the staple of my complexion, always
certain of every word that came out of my mouth. Years passed, and slowly,
but surely, doubt began to sprout in my mind.
“No,” I would assure to myself, “Why are you losing your faith? You
know that it’s real, and why should you pay attention to anyone who says
otherwise? It’s like everything else in life; you know that, don’t you? Don’t
listen to anyone but yourself!”
And so I continued, with false independence and my own words of
innocent wisdom. Then came the pillaging of my utopia. The place that had
soared so high into the skies was now crashing down onto my faith and my
soul, shattering childhood fantasies into a thousand shards that buried
themselves into my heart. There is no Santa, no Tooth Fairy, no anything.
The ruins of my utopia spilled down my eyes, blinked away and lost forever,
evaporating into the air.

“Believe,” I heard people say that time and time again. I would
turn to my old childhood companion, the television, watching cheesy G
movies that fueled a cruel fantasy. “Believe,” they would say. “Don’t lose
faith.”
The Polar Express had now left my mind and was now crashing
into a frozen lake. Except this time, it didn’t emerge victorious; instead,
it sank into the icy depths, crushing under the weight of the waters of my
sorrow.
More doubt began to set in, and as it did, my foggy vision began
to clear, or, at least, that’s how I saw it. Following the insistence of my
extended family, I had my first communion. I went to the church after
school to receive my lessons, but I always came out with a horrid taste in
my mouth and a grim look on my face. I heard people talk about God,
and all of His miracles and all of the wise guidance He gives us. Then I
heard people talk about His cruelty, His judgment and His wrath. None
of it made sense to me. They called God a strict parent; teaching and
chastising his children the He thought was correct. I remembered all of
the things I had heard of God as a child, it couldn’t possibly be the same
person.
“This can’t be!” I thought. “None of this could possibly be right!”
Reliving past errors, I was wrong once more. I changed my la-
beled faith to fit my changed beliefs, but once again, words were twisted
and distorted. I turned to my guide, the book, and read about everything
that there was, looking for God through the margins between the pages
and in between words. I searched in the very same places where others
had claimed to find Him, but I saw nothing. I made up my mind then
and there: There was no God.
Faith had finished its decomposition into my mind, and at times
I have felt relieved, but at others I don’t know what I feel. I see how oth-
ers say that faith has saved them, so why couldn’t it save me? I see the
hope in other people’s eyes, undying hope, enduring hope; something
that I had but lost through the years. How can people be satisfied with
not knowing and simply hoping that something will happen? I guess it’s
something that I’ve stopped understanding. They say that as children,
we have the capacity to do and understand many things, and we lose
that capability, as we grow older. Is that what happened to me? Have I
forgotten how to believe?
