The beaches of Khaolak are wide and shallow, making it ideal for swimming. The golden sands are soft and clean with rows of pine trees providing shade. This peaceful beach might not be popular with those who enjoy crowds, but for us it was serene and perfect.

As we lazily stroll along the shoreline, we reached Nang Thong Beach which is located right next to Khaolak. We noticed how the atmosphere suddenly became more alive. There were definitely more facilities available here like boutique resorts, restaurants and small shops selling different kinds of goods.

Both Thai and foreign vacation goers all came out to show off their bikini clad bodies. Some were lying down to work on their tans while others settled down under the shade to enjoy a good book. Children were having fun building sand castles or splashing around in the clear water. It was a picture-perfect atmosphere for a lazy day on the beach.

As we proceeded further down to the mid section of Khaolak, we came upon a long, curved bay called Bang Niang. There were quite a few visitors here enjoying the beach scene or swimming in the ocean. We all enjoyed our relaxing walking on the soft, fine sand that massaged our feet in soft caresses.

For lunch, we ate a hearty meal of fresh seafood with spicy dip we all loved so much. The beach atmosphere of sun, sea, sand just made everything even more perfect. On top of everything else, the cute bikini clad blonds walking around in the backdrop was like icing on the cake.

We like to call this area “Fusion Beach” as the atmosphere portrays an amusing mishmash between old traditions and modernization. It was a scenery both Thais and foreigners found to be quite idyllic.

Moving on to kuk Kak (Lively) Beach, we previously imagined a place filled with people clad in colorful clothing dancing away to reggae music. But as we got there, it was actually a long, wide and rather quiet beach with inviting shallow water.

Finally reaching Laem Pakarang (Coral Cape), we can see a peninsula extending into the ocean for hundreds of meters. At one time, the surrounding water was full of coral reefs large and small, all spread out for snorkelers to admire. Unfortunately in the past couple of decades, a number of heavy storms blew past causing damage to the area and destroyed much of the existing corals.

As the sun descends into the ocean, we also completed our sight-seeing trip from Phuket to Pang Nga. The journey can easily be done in one day for those who don’t want to stay overnight. May I have your comments after participating Phuket Vegetarian Festival ?

Well, very impressive. It is an unforgettable experience in my life for being a part of the festival. The street procession is amazing. People are dressed in white and eating vegetarian food. I am very interested in the fire walking and bladed-ladders climbing rituals. Firecracker and drum are sounded, especially on the farewell night. Hope to join the festival next year if time permits.
