    * Attempt all questions.

    * Paper A has Two PartsI and II.Each question of Part I carries 2 marks and eachquestion of part II caries 4 marks.

    * Calculators and log tables areno t permit ted.

    5. The spring balance A reads 2kg with a block m suspended from it. A balance Breads 5 kg when a beaker with liquid is put on the pan of the balance. The twobalances are now so arranged that the hanging mass is inside the liquid in thebeaker as shown in the figure. In this situation find the reading of balance A andB with proper explanation.

    9. A ray enters a glass sphere of R.I. n = 3 at an angle of incidence 60 and is reflected and refracted

    at the farther surface of the sphere. Find the angle between the reflected and refracted rays at thissurface.

    10. A bullet of mass m leaves a gun of mass M kept on a smooth horizontal surface. If the speed of thebullet relative to the gun is v, Find the recoil speed of the gun.

    PART II

    11. A cubical block of wood of edge 3 cm floats in water. The lower surface of the cube just touches thefree end of a vertical spring fixed at the bottom of the pot. Find the maximum weight that can be puton the block without wetting it. Density of wood = 800 kg/m

    3 and spring constant of the spring

    = 50 N/m. Take g = 10 m/s2. Neglect the volume of the spring.
