Son metabolitos secundarios de las plantas que cumplen funciones de defensa, ya que al ser hidrolizados por algunas enzimas liberan cianuro de hidrógeno.

El ácido cianhídrico (HCN) es un líquido volátil, incoloro de olor característico a almendras amargas.

FARMACOCINETICAEl HCN se absorbe por todos los tejidos.
Hay una detoxificación en el rumen , la Cobalamina se une al HCN dando lugar a la cianocobalamina ( vit B 12 ).pero esto no alcanza para parar la intoxicación.
Hay una enzima : rodanasa, que convierte los cianuros en tiocianatos que son compuestos menos peligrosos y se eliminan por la orina durante varios días.
Por los pulmones eliminan el HCN absorbido y nos da el característico olor almendras amargas.

• En la planta bastan 200 p.p.m para producir efectos tóxicos.

DX DIFERENCIAL
El HCN actúa sobre la citocromo oxidasa ( fermento respiratorio ) combinándose con el hierro e impidiendo la liberación del oxigeno. Por esto se observa la sangre ROJO BRILLANTE , no coagulada por la acción del HCN sobre la protrombina
Muestras de sangre (de la yugular) : NITRITOS la sangre es negro achocolatada (Izq). HCN la sangre es rojo brillante(Der).

TRATAMIENTO
Se disuelven 5 g de nitrito de sodio y 15 g de tiosulfato de sodio en 200 mL de agua destilada estéril, se aplica por vía IV, lentamente, en dosis de 40 mL por cada 100 kg de peso del animal. La administración tiosulfato de sodio vía oral (30 g dosis total) con intervalos de una hora y así fijar el cianuro libre que permanece en el contenido ruminal.

Etiología
La fotosensibilización es una alteración de la piel causada por la ingestión de sustancias fotodinámicas presentando hipersensibilidad orgánica a la luz solar, la cual activa a un agente fotodinámico (AF) que se ubica en la epidermis, en las mucosas y a veces, también en la córnea.

También conocida como hepatógena, la más común e importante económicamente. Suele deberse a una sustancia hepatotóxica producida por una planta, hongo o alga que causa una disfunción hepática dando lugar a la retención de filoeritrina (agente fotosensibilizante),producto normal del metabolismo de la clorofila.
La disfunción hepática puede deberse también a la presencia de una carga excesiva de parásitos hepáticos, principalmente Fasciola.

• Lantana camara (Confite, confitillo), maleza también con principio tóxico de triterpentenos: A que se desdobla en hígado para producir filoeritrina y el lantadeno B no tóxico.
• Pithomyces chartarum, por micotoxina esporidesmina. Bajo condiciones en pastos Bermuda, Ballico perene, Panicum dichomiflorum y el Tríbulus terrestris, e incluso en ensilados de alfalfa contaminados. Después de las heladas, el pasto se congela, primero se seca como heno y después comienza a deteriorarse. En esta etapa se desarrolla en hongo.
• Tríbulus terrestris (torito, cuernos de chivo) contiene una saponina.

• Las vacas afectadas son deficitarias en la cosintetasa III de la uroporfirina, una enzima necesaria para la formación adecuada del grupo HEMO (hemoglobina).
• Hace que se acumulen en la sangre y los tejidos pigmentos endógenos resultado del metabolismo anormal de la porfirina (AF: uroporfirina I, coproporfirina I, y protoporfirina III).

Caracteriza a este tipo de fotosensibilización:
La coloración café de los huesos y el tono rosado de los dientes, por lo que a esta enfermedad se la conoce también con el nombre de “diente rosado”.Los huesos, los dientes y la orina fluorecen al ser irradiados por luz ultravioleta de la lámpara de Wood. Los pigmentos se excretan por la orina, de donde surgen los nombres de “porfirinuria” y “hematoporfirinuria”.

SIGNOS CLINICOS
La piel esta inflamada, con eritema, descamación, desfoliación, edema, necrosis.Las porciones pigmentadas de la piel son poco afectadas ya que absorben poca luz solar, también puede existir dolor, fotofobia, hipertermia, irritación, prurito, fiebre, mastitis o pododermatitis, complicadas con infecciones bacterianas secundarias.
