Evening all, so we go in to tonights on the back of a tough week for us on the pitch, a week we need to quickly learn and move on from starting with a win to-night. We lost our last 3, all on the road but we have to take 1 positive from it if we can and that is that only 1 of the games was in the league. Yes cup runs are nice and bring great income in to the club but the league is our aim, that was our target at the start of the season and that remains. Were not going to win the FA cup and very doubtful the FA trophy but we can win our league and thats what we aim to do.
So tonight we need to get straight back to winning ways, its nice to have a fixture at home after a lot of travelling of late, its seemed like weve spent the whole week on the coach. Whatever side is put out this evening I expect us to have more than enough to win the game, the youngsters
at the club have real prospect and its great to see some of them breaking into the first team. If they are called upon tonight Im sure theyll once again show why they are held in such high re-gard. Either way I want to see a win for the Dolphins and in to the next round.

Tonight we extend a warm wel-come to the players officials and supporters of Shaftesbury FC for this Dorset Senior Cup tie. Hopefully they will enjoy the occasion and I have no doubt but that they will contribute to a fine evenings entertainment. This competition is one that we at Poole have always taken seriously. The splendid tro-phy that is awarded to the winners of the competition reflects appropriately the level of Dorset bragging rights that suc-cess in the final brings with it. We have had a fair degree of success in recent years in securing those bragging rights and this seasons journey to a repetition of that success starts tonight.
I am expecting Tom to field a young side this evening - that policy has already produced a spectacular 3-1 vic-tory at Dorchester in the Red Insure Cup and the youngsters deserve another shot at fulfilling a first team fixture. Last Wednesday our superbly talented u21 side comfortably dismissed Gosport 5-1 here in their first league fixture so add that to the Dorchester victory and there is little doubt but that they are chafing at the bit for another chance to show what they can do.
Saturdays lone goal defeat at Merthyr in the FA Trophy was bitterly disap-pointing. After 84 minutes we were looking good for a replay and hopefully progress in what is a financially lucra-tive competition. It brought to an end a wretched eight days of three defeats- not what we are used to. We have had the squad depleted by Gillys injury,by Jamie Gleesons injury and also Steve Devlin was not able to be involved at
Chesham and Merthyr. To be deprived of three such talented players is immense. Devs is back now and we must hope that Gilly and Jamie are soon fit enough to return to the fold.
This coming Saturday we are away once more this time to Dunstable in the League and then a week tonight we travel to Weymouth in the Red Insure Cup.
Dont forget the Sportsmanship Dinner on 12th November - see elsewhere in the programme for full details. That night is so crucial to us in financial terms and it is always good to see a clutch of die-hard supporters among those attending.
Finally we can trust Tom and the lads to put our recent run of defeats firmly to bed very quickly - of that I have no doubt. We remain top of the league and that is where we intend to stay!
Enjoy the game and dont forget the 50:50 tickets.
Chris

Poole remain in just three competitions, as they fell to a late defeat in South Wales.
Still without 4 key players, (Gillespie, Devlin, Gleeson, Connell) The Dolphins lost out to an 84th minute winner, in an extremely tight game. Merthyr also made quite a few chang-es from the team that played at Tatnam, as they were also suffering a injury crisis.
Poole started the brighter team, their early pressure ending up in a corner, which resulted at multiple Dolphins flinging their feet, swinging at the ball, but Merthyr managed to clear their lines. At the oth-
er end, Walker was just able to get a toe to a dangerous throughball, that would have seen the Poole defense split wide open.
Slowly Merthyr were grow-ing into the game, and would have the ball in the back of the net a dangerous free kick was met by an unmarked attacker, but play was rightly called back for offside. Poole would go the closest out of the two sides in the first half, Luke Roberts firing just wide after some decent linkup play around the box.
Poole perhaps edged the first half, but neither team could do anything particularly

It would take until around the hour mark for the game to settle down, and Merthyr almost took the lead when Scotcher struck the post from a dangerous free kick. Bur-bidge would fire a
