1 BABY CAREApp Design

Baby Care is an APP designed to help parents who lack experience to quickly interpret infant emotions. It can help busy parents to know and track their baby’s emotions in real time, and can timely provide parents a practical way to communicate with their baby. It can not only help parents, but also prevent babies from generating emotional problems.

Young parents are troubled by infants’ emotional problems, and are occasionally anxious becausetheir baby kept crying, while they could not understand their baby and have difficulty incommunication. There are technologies that cananalyze emotions through facial expressionsand voices now, and such technologies keepdeveloping and become more and more mature over time. The study also pointed out that thecommunication between babies, different behaviorsof parents and ambient sounds all have differentimpacts on babies’ emotions. Based on the study, the APP is designed to applicate modern science and technology to solve the troubles of young parents and strengthen communication.

1.1 Project introduction 1.2 Mind map

1.3 Initial questions

The above thoughts were obtained through considering parents' thoughts and problems they face in bringing up their children. In consideration of the reality of the situation, I use different colors to sort into different categories: the need of time of parents to solve problem, the parents' feelings, the problems parents might face in reality, the parents' own needs, as well as the parents' confusion of how to deal with emotional problems.

1.4 Interview

1.5 Research

Facial Expression -Perceived IntensityThe perception of facial expression: Experiments were carried out targeting young people, to determine how well young people can perceive infants' emotion, by a test to match infants' facial expression with emotion. The result shows that young people cannot correctly perceive infants' emotion by looking at their faces. Although the rate of accuracy of perception of infants' different facial expressions varies, the result shows that there is no regularity of such rate of correctness, and that there is large uncertainty. Only six people accurately described infants' mood.

Baby Calls -Perceived IntensityThe perception of sound: By asking participants to listen to the baby's sound to judge the baby's emotion, i.e. to do a voice-and-emotion match, I found that part of the participants can match the baby's voice and mood, while most participants cannot do so, and some even get the positive and negative emotions completely wrong, judge the situation reversed. The rate of accuracy of perception of infants' different sounds varies, and there is no regularity of such rate of correctness.

The survey is divided into two aspects, and the results show most adults cannot know infants' emotion through facial expressions or the sounds the infants made.

2 EYESIGHT ALERTEyesight Alert is a product designed to help people to protect their eyesight in modern days, and to reduce the impact of external factors on vision. This device automatically alerts the user if they use the eyes in an unhealthy way, and thus help students maintain the natural development of vision in the growth process, and also help busy adults protect their eyesight.

App Design Due to busy work and study in this modern world, people always overuse their eyes and cause conditions of myopia. But even if there is awareness of eye protection, the problem is people are unclear how to protect their eyes, which results continuous decline in vision. With the development of technology, there have been increasingly wearable device, and people are more and moreaware of the importance to protect eyesight. Parents are especially concerned to protect their children's eyesight. Although through modern medical technology vision can be corrected, but sustained attention with eye condition can largely avoid myopia. Based on this situation, I provide a newly designed product which provides a modern way to protect eyesight.

2.1 Project introduction

2.2 Research

The proportion of myopiaFrom 1970 to date, the percentage of short-sightedpeople has been rising, among which the 8-24 age groupaccounted for the highest proportion, and this proportion(i.e. the 8-24 age group myopia patients against the total myopia patients) is also on the rise. 8-24 age group is the high incidence of myopia, especiallybefore the age of 20 when the vision is sti l l in itsdevelopment stage, myopia is easily caused of eye fatigue.Although today with the advances in medical technologywe have a variety of methods that can correct myopia, theproportion of myopia is still on the rise. This has a greatdeal to do with people’s habit of eye overuse.

Page 15: Portfolio-Mingqin Dai

Among the people who have the awareness to protect eyesight, 80% of people expressed the wish to protect their eyesight, but it’s hard to keep pat attention to the environment or time they use their eyes, especially in the work or learning process. They only pay attention to these factors when they can remember.

Awareness to protect eyesightAccording to the survey of 150 people in the age group of 12-22 years old, 42% of them have the awareness to protect eyesight. The rest of the people do not pay attention to the vision protection issues in their daily lives.

Since the 8-24-year-old age group is a high incidence of myopia, and until the age of 20 it is the stage of development of the eye, my analysis targets the population of this age group. I primarily focus on the eye use conditions of students to obtain a program to protect eyesight.

Causes of myopiaThere are many causes of myopia, which can be divided into controllable factors and uncontrollable factors.Due to the development of electronic products, people tend to look at a computer or smart phone for a long time, while the sight is almost not moving. Then will cause long-term use of eye muscles, and thus cause muscle tension and muscle stiffness, and then cause eye fatigue and myopia. Therefore, compared to the past, people are more likely to have myopia nowadays.External controllable factors include reading distance, light intensity, time of eye usage, etc.Uncontrollable factors are genetic factors, disease and so on.

The smog is stifling in China in recent years, thick smog enveloping almost the entire area of northeastern China. The levels of pollutants are above the highest level of the air quality index. And PM2.5 is the primary reason of the smog. The chemical composition of PM2.5 is complicated, it consisted of several gas and particulate matter, including NOx, SO2, NH3, VOCs. Scientists figure out that the primary reason of generating PM2.5 is firing of coal and consumption of fossil fuels. China undergone an industrial revolution in last decades, and this has been fueled by China’s cheap coal. When factory burn coal, NOx is released and it is the primary ingredients in the pollutant. Because of this, I try to show the correlation between PM2.5, NOx and industrial intercourse according to the data of concentration of PM2.5 and discharge capacity of NOx.

I use size of circle to indicate the discharge capacity of NOx. As the circle change from being minor to being major, the discharge capacity increase.

I use color to indicate the concentration of PM2.5. As the concentration increase, the color becomes darker. The color will become darker or lighter as the detected concentration of PM2.5 changes.

I use lines to connect cities that have industrial intercourse.
