Culture and Sport Center —— Mapo Oil Base Reservation, Seoul, South Korea

The creation of the new culture and sport center in Seoul is part of the DMC development. The site on Mt. Nanji is located in the west edge of Seoul dowtown and becomes gateway of DMC.

The site locates in the Edge of DMC and adjacent to 2012 World Cup Stadium in Seoul citizen's psychological map, Mt. Namji presents an abandon place with limited accessibility to the public and with highly contradiction of space identity, it obstacles the public access from DMC neighborhood to the stadium and adjacent public park. The design integrates existing stadium and oil tanks to enhance the usage of sport and lesuire to the public, to create a future destination with mix-use complex.

Commercial Center , Guangyuan, China

The site is located at a corner of a crossroad and next to the residencial area. In order to activate all the commerical space and solve the parking problem, we lifted the north-west corner and designed a pedestrian walkway going through the center from south-west to north-east. The ground floor at the north-west can be used for parking. Along the walkway on the second floor, through dividing and rotating volumes - as well as creating different altitudes, we designed more essential commercial space. All space has been used maximally.

Shanghai is an International city near the sea. The design concept illustrates sailing on the sea, and the buildings were built to reflect this, to a high-tech standard.

Apartment Interior Design, Sichuan, China The apartment is on the ground floor, surrounded by green trees and the other residencial buildings. Not enough daylight is one of the main problems. On the other hand, the scales of the apartment are quite small and the kitchen is especially narrow. Also, the client wanted there to be a lot of storage space.

Light colors and glass were chosen to reflect light and improve daylight during the day. The west wall of the Kitchen which was not part of the main structure was pulled down and the space was expanded to the outside edge of the kitchen balcony. Bespoke furniture was made to offer more storage space to the apartment.

The Old Residence Area Renovation —— When "Green" Meets "Grey"

The site is located in Xuzhou, in the north part of Jiangsu province, near the east coast of China. This old residential area is to the west of the CBD. It was built 60 years ago with old and basic domestic facilities. After the locale investigation, we listed several of the main problems discovered.

In this case, I tried to remove the old and broken parts and add some active elements (or modern living facilities)to invigorate the area and redefine people’s life there. I designed new apartments to be offered to the previous residents and to attract young people who are looking for modern and affordable accommodation. The new retail area, library, community center and theater also create more job opportunities and bring to this area a totally new life style. At the same time, I wanted to keep some parts of the old life. The central park is also based on this theme with the old walls having been preserved.

The new apartments are designed for broad range of ages. The plan incorporates several design forms to make the apartments more interesting and meet different demands.

Culture Center Complex —— The City on the Roof

In order to create an active area in this residential district, I designed a culture center with multiple urban functions. Because of the limitations of the site, I tried to make full use of the roof top so as to develop it as a rich social system and to create more outside space. This includes an out-door cinema, a basketball playground, as well as some greenery and out-door space. Its a space which can create more possibilities and a different lifestyle for the residents to enjoy urban life. This culture center will be like a micro city.

Olympic Hotel Complex —— Cylinders Space & Materials

In this case, I tried to explore the space within, around and also the connections between the cylinders. Because it's a hotel complex that is going to serve the Olympic event, the first inspiration comes from the Olympic rings. The five cylinders are unique but share connections that differ based on the function of each cylinder.

I used SMD LEDs on the surface of the buildings, which act as a shutter in the day and become a symbolic luminophore in the evening. Inside the main building I have designed a bar which is surrounded by 10cm diameter glass columns to demarcate the space. The surfaces of the columns and the stair railings are made of stainless steel. The light that reflects off the steel and refracts off the glass columns will togther create a bright and fascinating interior space.

Youth Apartment , Xuzhou, China

The site is situated a mile away from the University of China in Xuzhou city. The shape of the site is long and narrow, the objective is to create efficient space vertically, using rotating concrete boxes. This will create more public and private space. On material, I tried to use concrete and colored glass to have a strong constraction.

Main Responsibility: I was involved in this Commercial Complex Design at different stages. A commercial center was proposed to help the local council to develop the town's main commercial central line, which starts from the Memorial Park to the sea beach. The site was located next to Herons Leisure Center and Hanover Square - the main Leisure parts of the town. With reference to the local Urban Planning, we proposed a complex combined with a shopping center, a hotel and a leisure part. Also, we proposed expanding the Herons Leisure Center to accomdate a starbucks coffee shop.
