Struggle and SurvivalDiego Vasicuio

Diego lived in Peru in 1600’s. He often times kept to himself. He became a leader of an Indian. In 1671, he was called upon by father de Prado for charges of heresy.

Struggle and Survival:Martin Ocelotl 

Oceloti was a priest who was put to trial during New Spain’s Inquisition in the 1500’s. He was born into a powerful family in Puebla, Mexico. His father was a merchant, while his mother was a well known priestess. At a young age he was considered to be a powerful prodigy.

Struggle and Survival:Juan de Morga

A young slave who lived in Mexico during the 17th century. He worked in the colonial labor market. He learned how to read and write while being a slave, which is an uncommon thing.

Struggle and Survival:Gertrudis de Escobar

Born around 1644, who was also a slave. Parents died when she was a child. She worked as a servant in Mexico City. She was punished many times by nuns for disobeying rules. She had no belief in god and was punished for blasphemy. As her punishment, she was sent to work in sugar plantations.

Struggle and Survival:Isabel Moctezuma

Born in 1550, was a daughter of the Aztec ruler Moctezuma II. After the Spanish conquest, she was recognized as Moctezuma’s heir.

Was accused in 1650 of causing mysterious and dreadful things to happen to her two lovers, thought to of poisoned the first and brought upon magic for the second.

A Spanish poet and play righter in the 20th century. Born in Orihuela in the Valencian Community to a poor family and received very little education. He published his first book at the age of 23, gaining much fame before his death.

Birthplace unknown, died in Mexico in 1632. He was a cosmographer to the King of Spain, and interpreter for the Spanish Inquisition, publisher and hydraulic engineer.

Born 9 years before Martin Luther. In 1549, when the Portuguese Jesuits reached his prime. When he was 22 he became a priest. In 1553, he set sail to Italy for more education.

Died in 1758 of old age. She worked half her life to become a nun. She became the Bride of Christ. She lived 6 years as a pupil and secular for the nuns.

Born in Buenos Aires in the 18th century, when the city was a bigger part of Spain. Was drafted into the guild in 1789. He died in 1810.
