The 12th edition of INTERNATIONAL FLOWER EXPO TOKYO(IFEX) ended successfully with positive notes. This year the show welcomed 507 exhibitors with flowers and related products who would like to expand their business in the market. IFEX is unique in that so many Japanese flower growers gather at one place. Over 200 Japanese growers exhibited this year to meet Japanese and international buyers.

Not only Japanese companies but many overseas flower growers have utilised IFEX as the gateway to the Japanese market. This year, the show welcomed exhibitors from 4 continents : Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. There is no other place to meet with Asian suppliers such as Indonesia, Taiwan and Sri Lanka at one time, and IFEX 2015 served again as the centre of the flower industry in Asia.

IFEX is also known for rich contents in the events. IFEX Flower Awards - the contest was to decide “the future best sells” by Japan’s leading flower shops and famous flower designers, and it was held for the first time. 111 varieties were nominated this year and 3 category winners –Cut Flower, Potted Flower and Overseas Growers - were chosen among them. Winning flowers were guaranteed to be promoted in Japan’s major flower shops and flower schools actively. Japanese consumers will see these flowers in many stores in Japan soon. The contest was held in the evening of the day before the show, and prize winning flowers were presented in the special exhibit area during the three days show period. The special exhibit area proved to be a popular destination for visitors. Many leading breeders see the awards as the best way to promote their varieties in Japan and Show Management expect a lot more nominations for the next Awards. <Grand prize winning varieties>

Specialised zones such as outdoor living zone, vegetable & fruit seeds zone and Garden x Lifestyle Collection zone were set to facilitate visitors seek for what they were looking. GARDEX is well-established sourcing venue for home centers in Japan for the next Spring season. Presidents of Japan’s leading home centers visited the show with their purchase teams and active business discussions took place. Major industry players launched new products here and tried to attract buyers to their booths. One of the highlights of the show this year is the strong participation from overseas companies. Coir Board from India exhibited with their 12 members, introducing their pots and planters using coir. The number of exhibitors from Taiwan and China has grown rapidly to reflect industry demands.

The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE & TOOLS EXPO TOKYO (TOOL JAPAN) keeps on expanding its scale. Industry giants such as Hitachi Koki, Makita, Trusco Nakayama and many more gathered, showcasing their latest products. Companies such as CATERPILLAR and STIHL participated for the first time and the show has now established itself as one of the most important business vehicles in the industry.

PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) exhibit zone shows the huge growth in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors this year. Booths of major brands including PUMA SAFETY and TOWA were full of visitors during the show. Also, overseas PPE exhibitors attracted great attentions from Japanese buyers as there had never been international PPE exhibitions in Japan before. PPE exhibitors from Thailand, China and Taiwan had very fruitful business discussions and most of them rebooked their exhibit space for the next TOOL JAPAN. With many new exhibitors and strong growth of PPE sector, TOOL JAPAN is expected to expand further in future.
