Powerpoint Tips and Tricks!

Step 1: opening powerpoint•Log in to the computer•Click on the Start menu at the bottom of the screen (you may need to choose “All Programs” at the bottom to find PPT)•Click on the Powerpoint icon

•Click “OK”•Choose an AutoLayout•Click “OK”

Step 2: saving

•Click “File” at the top of the page•Click “Save” and then the arrow next to “Save in”•When the menu drops down, choose the “H Drive”•Name your file and click “Save”•From now on, you just need to click the save icon or hit “Ctrl” and “S” at the same time.

Step 3: background 1 design template

• Click “Format” at the top of the screen

• Choose “Apply Design Template”

• Scroll though and find one you like and click “Apply”

Step 3: background 2 Custom

• Click “Format” at the top of the screen

• Choose “Background”• Click on the arrow by the box at

the bottom• When the menu comes down,

choose “More colors” if you just want to change colors, or “Fill effects” if you want to have more than one color or texture

• Click “Apply to all” if you want all your slides to have the same background

Step 3: background 3Picture

• Get the picture from Microsoft clipart (or the internet)

• Click “Insert”• Click “Picture” and choose “Clip Art”• Choose “Clips Online”• Type a search word, find a picture,

download it, and paste it into the powerpoint.

• Drag to make it the right size• Once you’ve got it like you want it, if you

want all your slides to have this picture, copy the whole slide and paste or do “Insert” and “Duplicate Slide”

Step 4: fonts•Just like MSWord•Use the font menu at the top left to choose the style and size of font•Use the color menu at the bottom to change the color of the font and the fill color for the text boxes•Or, you could use word art•To layer, right click and use “order” to bring things forward or move them back.

Step 5: pictures•Click “Insert”•Click “Picture” and choose “Clip Art” and “Clips Online”•Or copy and paste from the internet•Use the picture toolbar below to crop (cut) the image and change its brightness, color, or transparency•If you use a picture from a website,

please give the site credit

Step 6: sound•Click “Insert” and “Picture” and choose “Clip Art” and “Clips Online”•Download the sound just like a picture•When you insert it, a little speaker icon will appear, and PPT will ask you if you want it to play automatically, or when you click on it, a picture or a WORD.

•If you want it to play automatically,

you can drag the speaker off the slide so it won’t show when you are viewing the slideshow.

Step 7: slideshow•Click on the “Slide Show” button at the top to play with slide transitions, action settings, creating a slide show that will play on its own, hyperlink to the internet or other slides, etc.•Ask me if you need help with this and are finished with all the other elements of your project•AND DON’T FORGET TO SAVE FREQUENTLY!
