CHOSEN BY… STEVE GOODIERThis tough little route involves a high

level traverse along the north western edge of The Black Mountain escarpment above Hay-on-Wye. The Gospel Pass is the highest road pass in Wales rising to 1,801ft/549 metres and we start our walk from just below its summit.

Our route passes over the stunning viewpoint of Hay Bluff (2,220ft/677 metres) and crosses The Gospel Pass itself to climb to Twmpa (2,263ft/689 metres) which is also known by the more colourful name of ‘Lord Hereford’s Knob’. The return route works a cunning way under the main escarpment to climb back to the start.
