TomTom Historical Speed Database:Anonymous location and speed information from the TomTom community
• TomTom database contains over 2.000 billion observations (currently growing with 3,5 billion measurements per day)
• On top of that we receive real-time floating car data (FCD) from a fast growing fleet of connected customers (currently ±2M) and from “floating phone data” from our cooperation with Telco´s

Future outlook
• We will receive even more historical and real-time data: Floating Car Data will be available for Europe. FCD will be enriched with new sensor information
• Increased quality of navigation through predictive navigation and crowd planning
• Link to Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure technology will further enhance traffic management value
• New developments: TomTom Incident Management System

Smart Mobility: Cars solving their own problems
Research themes Smart Mobility
Cars in the future:
• No polution
• Being in a traffic jam is predictable and voluntary happening
• Sustainable energy source
• Near-zero accidents
• Technology will significantly raise efficiency in transport and logistics
• Cars will solve their own problems; They need a limited infra investment: maximize usage of current infrastructure
• Everybody will still be able to enjoy the freedom of driving
