What aresuperstitions? Superstitions are beliefs or practices for 

which there appears to be no rationalsubstance. It is a term designated to

these beliefs that result from ignoranceand fear of the unknown. Those whouse the term imply that they havecertain knowledge or superior

Reason why people believein superstitions

A belief in superstitions gives people anillusion of control in an uncertain world.

Many superstitions originated at a time when

little was known about how the physicalworld functions.

Human beings always seek to understandtheir surroundings and interpret life by thatunderstanding. Superstition is just one

more method of understanding life albeitillogical at times.

caused by the uncertainties of thisworld.

FOUNDATION

The foundation of superstition is ignorance, the super structure is faith and the dome is a vain hope. Superstitionis the child of the ignorance and the mother of the misery.It is commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding

luck, prophecy and spiritual beings, particularly theirrational belief that future events can be influenced or fore-told by specific, unrelated behaviors or occurrences.

No matter how sophisticated our society becomes,superstitions persist in having an impact on success or failure. We normally associate the idea of superstition withthe supernatural. The stories supporting these ideas arefascinating and get passed from person to another

GOOD LUCK SUPERSTITIONS

Good luck superstitions are those whichaccording to people bring good luck.

EXAMPLES:

• At times, a horse-shoe may be foundabove doorways, whenpositioned like a regular “U”. It issupposed to collect good luck.

•Clover is believed to protect humansand animals from evil spells andis thought to be good luck to find a four-leaf clover.

In western culture the number 13 is perceived asunlucky. Some times it is replaced by 12A or in some buildings the floor 13 is skippedcompletely.

If a black cat crosses your path you will have abad luck.

To break a mirror will bring you seven years of bad luck.

To open an umbrella in the house is to bring badluck.

A bird that comes in your window brings badluck.
