21st April 2017

Happy, respectful, lifelong learners

Dear Parents/Carers

As I am sure you will have noticed, the Life Bus has been in school this week. Each class is given a session on the

bus where they explore topics such as ‘It’s Great to be Me’, ‘Meet the Brain, ‘My Wonderful Body’ and

‘Decisions’. The younger children also get to meet Harold the Giraffe, who is always popular (he even comes out

to say ‘hello’ to Y5 and 6 in case they are missing him!).

We are linking with various local organisations to enhance our Science curriculum. This week, it was Year 4 that

had some visitors. Some of the team from the Science department at St Helena School came to share their

expertise, as Year 4 look at the way materials change and the properties of solids, liquids and gases.

Children in the Gold Book this week:

Foundation: Chloe

Year 1: Leo

Year 2: Tallulah

Year 3: Harrison

Sponsored Run, 25th

Watch this space for more details in the future.

Tuck Shop

We need some more helpers on tuck shop please - numbers

of helpers are dwindling and the queues are getting longer!

We are a friendly bunch and only need help for about half an

hour on a Friday after school. At the moment we are on a

rota, which means only helping twice in a half term but if

more people offer to help, we can reduce the time

commitment. More helpers = less queueing! Speak to

Andrea Currie, Julie Church or Mr Bull if you are able to help.

You can also respond on the Friends of BWW Facebook page.

Great Horkesley Village Show –

1st

July 2017 I am sure that some of you are already

aware that the Village Show will be

taking place later this term. There are

some competitions that the children

might like to enter and if you are going

to start growing things, you’ll need to

get planting now! It’s 50p per entry.

Age 6 and under:

• Wild Flowers in a Jar

• ‘Space Travel’ drawing or

painting (maximum A4 size)

• Pasta Necklace

Age 7-10

• 5 x decorated homemade

biscuits

• Sunflower/Tomato/Cresshead

plant

• Greetings card

Age 11-16

• Any handicraft

• 5 x decorated homemade

biscuits

• Any artwork (maximum A4 size)

We will also be running a competition to

help with ideas for the new village sign.

Watch this space!

Our value for this term is PERSEVERANCE. Please take time to

ask your child about this. When do they find things difficult

and need to persevere? Do they know about any films or

books where people have needed to show perseverance?

What happens if you don’t persevere? We looked at how

Princess Poppy and Noah both showed perseverance in our

collective worship this week.
