    Are all vacancies filled with appropriate staff?

    School Organization

    Prepare packets to ensure that all staff are familiar with the following items:

    Prepare information packets for students and parents

    Prepare school day schedule for distribution to staff, custodian and parents

    Prepare to collect emergency contact information from all students and new staff

    Physical Environment and Security

    Is the building deemed "ready to open" (without critical problems)?

    Notify appropriate liaison of security needs

    Discuss and institute visitation procedures

    Discuss and institute pass procedures

    Technology

    All computers functional and connected to the internet/network

    All phones are operational

    All school personnel have access to systems they needEnsure that all ATS printers are functioning

    If applicable, ensure that attendance scanners are functioning

    Registration (ES/MS only)

    Plan for orderly registration, including

    o All new incoming students with IEPs;

    o All "over the counter" students;

    Instructional Program

    Do all teachers and staff have necessary curriculum and materials?

    Ensure that curriculum materials and classroom libraries are in right classrooms

    For students requiring related services, have service providers been identified?

    Prior to the start of school, ensure all teachers and students are appropriatelyprogrammed so that students have a complete course schedule on the first day ofschool.

    Prepare breakfast and lunch schedule for school food staff (make any necessaryadjustments to schedule for first week)

    Walk through building and noteareas that need repair

    Ensure every classroom is suitable for instructional use

    o There is appropriate space

    o There is appropriate furnitureo Technology is set up and working

    Assign responsibility for creating appropriate welcoming environment (signs,bulleting boards, reception)

    Ensure all teachers and students have access to school discipline policy includingladder of referral.

    Plan use of physical space for line-up, lunch time and dismissal (including plans forinclement weather)

    o Identifying reception and line up procedures for parents

    o Identifying appropriate waiting areas for parents

    o Hiring staff for early registration

    o Coverage plan in place should the school need to open additionalsections or classes if space does not exist within exisiting classes(all students must be accommodated until a capping/overflow planis approved by the Division of Portfolio Planning).

    o Ensuring that staff has appropriate forms and information forregistering.

    Develop communication plan for parents who dont speak English and ensure allstaff is familiar with plan

    Ensure that school staff are familiar with the appropriate procedures for acceptingand welcoming all students on the first day, especially including:

    Are plans in place and materials ready for the September 7th ProfessionalDevelopment day for teachers?

    Establish and implement procedures for distributing textbooks and keeping accuratereceipts

    Ensure that the school has adequately planned for returning and arriving ELL and

    students with disabilities. This includes provision of related services and anyaccommodations and modifications indicated on the IEP/504 Plan. Ensure thataccess to IEPs is provided pursuant to Chapter 408 to all required staff.

    o Is your school prepared to serve all students with IEPs at your school,customizing programs to meet individual student needs?
