MESSAGE FROM

GTSJ PRESIDENT On behalf of the Gas Turbine Society of Japan, GTSJ, I am very pleased to welcome all the participants of the International Gas Turbine Congress 2011 Osaka. The GTSJ has been providing up-to-date information on all aspects of gas turbine technologies through various conferences for 40 years. One of the most important activities among them has been to host the International Gas Turbine Congress every four years with the support of collaborating societies all around the world. The International Gas Turbine Congress, IGTC, was first held in 1971 in Tokyo. Since then, a series of nine congresses has been held in Japan. A large number of people from academia, industry, and government have participated in these congresses from various areas of the world and presented the results of their research and experiences. The IGTC’11 is the tenth international congress organized by GTSJ and continues the tradition of the previous nine congresses held in Japan. Gas turbine and related technologies have greatly advanced in the last decade thanks to improvements in the efficiency, reliability, and cleanness of exhaust emissions. The research and development activities of advanced gas turbine systems are underway for the next generation. In addition, especially after the Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster, the gas turbine has attracted much attention as a feasible platform to be used in highly efficient emergency electric generators. Under these circumstances, I believe that this international congress is a timely and beneficial event, allowing participating researchers and engineers from various areas of the world to exchange information on the latest research and technical achievements. Finally, my sincere gratitude is extended to the collaborating and cooperative societies, the members of the International Advisory Committee, the supporting foundations, and the corporate members of the Gas Turbine Society of Japan for their contributions in making this congress possible. Special thanks are also directed to the members of the Organizing Committee and the Executive Committee for their great effort in the preparation of the congress.

MESSAGE FROM

IGTC '11 OSAKA CHAIRS

On behalf of the organizing committee and executive committee of IGTC’11, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to all participants of IGTC’11 Osaka. We are extremely delighted to host IGTC for the first time in Osaka. Osaka is Japan’s second largest economic area in close proximity to other major urban and tourist centers including Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. IGTC’11 is the 10th anniversary congress since the first IGTC was held by JSME supported by the Gas Turbine Division of ASME in 1971. We celebrate this honorable occasion of IGTC’11 with a special invited lecture by Professor Eisuke Outa and a special exhibition of past IGTCs including memorial photographs organized by Professor Osamu Kawaguchi. In response to our announcement by the 1st circular, 251 extended abstracts were received from more than 20 countries. Even though the Higashi Nippon disaster occurred on 11 March, 2011, 192 papers were selected for presentation at IGTC’11. Two invited lectures and seven keynote speeches are to be delivered by world leading experts. Two panel sessions on “Trends in Aero Engine and CO2 Reduction”, and two forums on “Aero Engine and Asian Energy and Environmental Strategy” are also scheduled. We are indebted to all reviewers for reviewing the draft papers, to the members of International Advisory Committee, Organizing and Executive Committee for their greatest efforts in preparing and operating IGTC’11 successfully. We also wish to acknowledge the generous support from collaborating societies, sponsors and exhibitors. Without these contributions, fruitful success of IGTC'11 would not be achieved. It will be our great pleasure that IGTC’11 provides a valuable social gathering for better understanding gas turbine technologies, exchanging updated information and making further progress, and growing our friendship. We would be very happy to see all participants enjoy IGTC’11 and the beautiful autumn in Kansai.
