Paradise just keeps getting better and better. And choosing the venue for your special occasions gets easier and easier, thanks to the Paradise Catering Hall

(51 Avenue U, at the corner of West 11th Street; 718-372-4352).

Celebrating your special moments here means having the total attention and expertise of the staff focused exclusively on your affair.

But more than this, now is a wondrous time to discover or re-discover this exceptional cater-ing hall. After a stunning re-modeling of their the grand ballroom, management recently spared no expense when they completely re-did the facility’s grand lobby as well as the luxuriously appointed bridal suite, now done up with marble and granite accents for a look of timeless elegance.

They match the walls of marble and granite in the ballroom — which itself sports one of the larg-est chandeliers in all of Brooklyn — giving you just a brief inkling into what they have in store for you and your guests. Come and see the grandeur for yourself.

But this is only one reason to choose Paradise. Here, they accept only a single function at any one time. There’s no splitting of the resources between two or three or even more affairs. When you book Paradise, you get the skills and expertise of every person there, on scene and behind the scenes to assure that your event runs flawlessly.

This sort of ultimate personalized attention starts the very minute you discover Paradise. At this facility, you don’t deal with some salesman. You deal directly with one of the owners, Hercules, or his son, Mike. And why is this so essential?

Quite simply, they have a vested interest in making you happy, not just in making a sale. They know their business depends on word-of-mouth recommendations and on the special days yet to come in your life and the lives of your family. Thus, they will do everything in their power to be certain that the affair you have imagined is transformed into reality under the skilled hands of themselves and their staff. That’s the secret of their longevity

and of their success. The lavish party room, which can be made inti-

mate enough for parties of 100, or grand enough to host a spectacular of up to 400, is marked by a central chandelier that will take your breath away. It is the focal point for a magnificent space done up in sophisticated pinks and reds, with mirrored accents that lend a touch of infinity to the already expansive area.

The re-done, picture perfect bridal room is large, romantic and very feminine, accommodating up to 15 in easy comfort, with wall-to-wall mirrors.

Ideal photographic locales are assured in this world of environments, which also includes an in-timate private garden area, a uniquely designed water fountain, as well as a host of fine, white wrought-iron work.

Can even Paradise become better? Of course it can. And they proved that when they totally reno-vated the large lobby area, adding a regal touch to this space, as well.

Whether it be a sweet 16, wedding, engage-ment party or any other affair, plan it at Paradise and the bottom line will put a very big smile on your face.

Our service is top flight, with the uniformed staff a longtime part of the Paradise family. These are full-time professionals who know their business; not weekend teens learning the trade.

And when it comes to the food, the chefs are world class. Whatever you can find in the cook-books, they can serve at the table. They offer an added expertise in all manner of ethnic cooking. Add to that everything is cooked from scratch right on the premises to assure the highest in qual-ity control.

Don’t you want to celebrate those once-in-a-lifetime days in Paradise?

The catering office is open Tuesday through Sunday, 1 – 9 p.m. Note that the facilities are also available during the weekdays for all types of so-cial meetings and functions.

For the further convenience of your guests, Paradise also can provide free valet parking.

Planning for the prom can be stressful. Between getting the best rate for a limou-sine, deciding which after-prom to attend

and saving money to do it all, you’ll need advice on how to make it all work. We’ve put together a simple time line with reminders and sugges-tions for tasks you may not even be aware of. We hope this puts you on a path to a successful prom night, minus the stress!

3 monthS BeFore the PromScour fashion magazines for dress inspi-ration! Tear out pages that excite you and gather them in a folder. Whether it’s the style or color you love in the photograph, at least you’re narrowing down options.Ask friends who might be interested in sharing a ride. Keep a running list of con-firmations.Start calling limousine companies to in-

quire about rates and availability. Keep a list of “possibilities.”Pay attention to your favorite celebrities for hair styles you love. Clip pictures from magazines. If you have an after-school job, consider picking up more hours if you can. Jobless? Get out there and submit some applica-tions. It’ll be helpful when saving money for the big night.Create a budget. Try to stick with it.

2 monthS BeFore the PromHit the stores with your dress inspiration folder. Try on as many dresses as you can.

Start to narrow down to your top-five choices. Bring friends and family for opin-ions if necessary.Gather up after-prom party options. Call companies and see what incentives they offer for bringing a group. Share informa-tion with friends and pick your favorite so you can budget accordingly!Collect a down payment from friends who will be sharing a ride with you. At this point you should be seriously considering at least one company you felt offered a good deal. Place a down payment on your ride of choice.Price out some hair stylist options if you are

prom timelinegetting your hair done professionally. If not, start trialing hair styles yourself and keep notes of which product(s) worked best.Update your budget if necessary. Don’t forget to add in the ticket to your prom. Ask around at school to find out what the cost per person will be.Work, work and work some more to save mon-ey! Ask family and friends if they have any op-portunities for you to make some extra money — babysitting, dog walking, anything!

1 month BeFore the PromIf you haven’t purchased your dream dress — do it now! Arrange for alterations if needed.Start shopping for accessories: bag, shoes, and jewelry. Consider borrowing items from family and friends to save some money!Schedule all beauty appointments — hair, nails, and teeth whitening. Remember to schedule early appointments as to not get behind schedule on the big day.Hopefully you started paying for after-prom tickets already and are knee-deep in payments from friends. Keep the momen-tum going and place a deadline to encour-age commitments.Continue paying for your transportation, finish up the payments if possible.Purchase prom dinner ticket at school.

3 weekS BeFore the PromDo a trial run of the dress, shoes, purse, hair and make-up to see if the look is ev-erything you’d hoped for.Check in with your date. Discuss any seat-ing arrangements or transportation di-lemmas that you need help working out.Finish up after-prom ticket purchases!

2 weekS BeFore the PromStart wearing your shoes around the house to break them in.Exfoliate in the shower with a good body scrub and loofah. Your skin will glow just a bit more in photographs!Give up snacks for the next two weeks. You’ll be surprised what a difference it will make. Drink lots of water instead!

1 week BeFore the PromTry on the dress and accessories again — this is your last chance for changes!Call to confirm all beauty appointments.Do a little “at home” facial with some friends. Use products you’ve used before but relax a bit with a mask to cleanse your pores.Get your camera in order — does it work? Con-sider borrowing one if yours is not up to par.Place the order for your date’s bouton-niere. Select a color that complements your dress.

1 day BeFore the PromCharge camera and cellphonePack your purse with necessities (gum, lip-stick, ID, extra cash, cellphone and tickets to the prom and after-prom)Pick up your date’s boutonniere and keep refrigerated.Have an “in-house” spa evening. Pam-per yourself a bit with a mask, relaxing music and lotion. Be sure to only use products you’ve used before to decrease the risk of any breakouts or allergic reac-tions.Go to sleep EARLY! You want to be well rested and look your best for tomorrow!

Prom dayGet up early and do some light stretching exercises to get your blood pumping.Wear a button down shirt to get your hair done so you won’t have any issues while changing into your dress.Call your limousine company to confirm the arrival time and pick up location.Drink lots of water. All the running around will dehydrate and tire you out.Check in with friends to ensure they are on schedule as well.Relax! You’ve got everything covered. Now go dance, take pictures, laugh with friends and enjoy!

Prom attire consists of wearing gowns and tuxedos in the style of the season. Promgo-ers pore over their wardrobe so they will

look their best when heading out for their big night — a party celebrating the culmination of their high-school careers. One tradition of prom that continues today is the presentation of a cor-sage to the female attendant.

Corsages have been part of formal wear for centuries. Originally, a corsage was considered to be a small grouping of flowers worn on the center bodice of a dress. It is derived from the French term “bouquet de corsage,” which translates to bouquet of the bodice. Corsages were commonly worn to weddings because, in ancient times, it was believed that the flowers and herbs placed in the corsage were essential to warding off evil spirits. Corsages were worn by special partici-pants in these ceremonies.

In the 20th century, corsages evolved into something that served as a gift for women at-tending special social dances, like their high-school proms. The corsage worn in this manner was part of the courting process. The gentleman would show respect to his date’s parents, includ-ing bringing flowers or a gift. The gentleman would then take a flower out of the bouquet and present it to his date and attach it to her dress.

As prom dresses evolved to feature spaghetti straps or no straps at all, pinning the corsage to the dress bodice was no longer practical. There-fore, corsages soon morphed into small bouquets that were attached to an elastic band. The result was something that could be worn around the wrist. Nowadays, there are various styles of cor-sages that can be worn at the waist and even in the hair.

Although it is customary to purchase a cor-

sage, gentlemen who are looking to save a little money can construct one on their own. With flo-ral tape and a few rosebuds, a corsage can be put together at a relatively low cost. For dates who are allergic to floral corsages, feathers, beads, faux flowers, or crystals can be substituted to make a statement and prevent a sneezing fit.

A gentleman should ask his date what color gown she is wearing to coordinate the corsage with the gown. However, neutral-colored blooms of peach, white, and pink can complement a number of differed hued dresses.

Many different flowers can be used in cor-sages. While roses are typical flowers to show af-fection and love, chrysanthemums, carnations, birds of paradise, orchids, and lilies can all be used depending on budget and style.

Florists are typically busy come the spring and summer season with orders for weddings, proms, communions, confirmations, Mother’s Day, and other special events, so it is best to or-der corsages well in advance to ensure the order is filled on time.

During prom season, the pages of fashion magazines are typically full of the latest dresses for female promgoers who are excited about looking their best

on their big night. However, not as much attention is devot-ed to the gentlemen who also may want to shine on prom night. Guys may wonder how they can stand out among a sea of black tuxedoes. It’s actually easier than you would think.

Although many eyes will be on the show-stopping gowns being worn, there will be plenty of people sizing up the dapper gentlemen as well. These young men can em-ploy a host of strategies to ensure they stand out among fellow students and friends.

Be classic. Sometimes guys think they need to stand out by doing something like wearing a flashy color to en-sure all eyes are on them. But a great way to get noticed is to choose a well-fitted classic tuxedo.

Try blue. English formal wear purists have long thought going with a midnight blue tuxedo is a classy

decision. That’s because this color is said to look its best under evening light.

Choose single-breasted styles. A single-breasted style with a low front button can help elongate the figure, which is an asset to those who are full around the middle.

Select a slim cut. Tuxedoes tend to look more elegant the slimmer they’re cut. Therefore, choose a slim-cut tux-edo that best fits your body type. A tuxedo should be a man’s slimmest, most sharply tailored garment, so be sure to have it altered to fit this way. For bigger men, visit a store that specializes in big and tall sizes so you’ll get the attention you need.

Be pressed and impress. No matter the color or cut, a winkled tuxedo is not a good idea. Prevent wrinkling by hanging the tux in a garment bag after it has been profes-sionally pressed.

Don’t overdo the bling. Keep jewelry to a minimum, and wear simple, elegant cufflinks.

Pay mind to hosiery. White athletic socks or thick boot socks will not work well with a formal look. Choose thin socks that are tight and one shade darker than your trousers.

Keep the jacket fastened. You’ll look classy with the jacket buttoned in photos and upon entry to the event. As the evening progresses, you may want to take off the jacket to dance and mingle.

Prom night often creates memories that last a life-time. Gentleman can ensure they shine as much as their dance partners by selecting classic clothing that makes a statement.

Prom night is a special night for teenagers, who typically spend weeks if not months planning their celebrations. But even the

most careful planning won’t prevent a few un-expected surprises from popping up. A cup of spilled punch can find its way onto a gown or dress shirt or a dress can suffer a tear as couples dance the night away on the dance floor. Such accidents might not be preventable, but that doesn’t mean couples can’t plan for them. Savvy couples who pack the following provisions come prom night won’t fret when the unexpected ac-cident inevitably occurs.

Mobile phone and roadside assistance club card: Prom-goers who are driving themselves to the festivities should be sure to bring a fully charged mobile phone as well as their roadside as-sistance membership card should their vehicle suf-fer a flat tire or another mechanical issue.

Bandages: Ladies might love the look of their brand new heels purchased specifically for prom night, but they likely won’t love the blisters that form after a night of dancing and mingling with classmates. Pack some bandages so blisters don’t become unbearable.

Toiletries: Couples should bring along

some travel-size toiletries in case the facility where the prom is being held proves lacking.

Makeup and additional beauty supplies: Guys may not need to worry about touching up their appearance, but ladies might want to touch up their makeup or fix their hair as the night progresses. Pack some extra beauty items and don’t forget to bring along a hairbrush.

Extra pantyhose: Pantyhose might not be capable of handling a night of dancing without suffering a tear, so bring along some extras so you can dance the night away no matter what.

Sewing kit: Dresses have a way of tearing on prom night, but such tears need not be a fashion emergency. Pack a small sewing kit and some safety pins, and your dress will be as good as new in no time.

Directions: Don’t forget to print out direc-tions to the banquet hall as well as the after party so you don’t miss a minute of your special night.

Cash and credit card: In the case of an emergency, couples should have some cash on hand as well as a credit or debit card.

Dateless for prom need not be a downer. High-schoolers envision many different scenarios for prom night. They may have their wardrobe picked

out, the transportation arranged and the group of friends with whom they will celebrate. What prom-goers may not foresee is heading to the prom without a date. The reality is that students go solo to the prom each year and still have a very good time in the process.

Prom is a highlight of high school for many teenag-ers. But a great deal of pressure is placed on students

come prom night, when students’ worries about their at-tire pale in comparison to the social pressure many feel. Many would-be prom-goers would prefer to go without a date to alleviate some of the pressure to live up to cer-tain prom night expectations. Today it is quite common for groups of friends to go to prom or homecoming to-gether.

For students attending the prom without a date, there are still ways to enjoy the event to the fullest. These are some tips for having fun at prom if you’re going stag.

Dateless for the danceHow to

enjoy prom without a

partner

Establish a party within a party. Use the prom as an ex-cuse to hold a singles mixer. Spread the word that there will be opportunities for other singletons to meet at the prom and perhaps pair off if a connection is made. There are likely many other boys and girls at the school who are attending the prom without a date, making prom night a perfect opportunity to meet someone new. Knowing there will be a new group of friends to meet once they arrive could motivate students to attend.

Party incePtion

Take to social media. Social media has enabled teens to expand their social circles regardless of geography. Ask a social media friend who might live outside of your school district to be your date for the prom. This can be a great way to grow your friendship and have a fun night together.

Social Search Sibling set-up. Sometimes a well-meaning brother or sister can suggest one of his or her friends to be a date for the prom. Older siblings who have already gone through the ritual of prom and understand the pres-sure of finding a date may alleviate those concerns by making a match for their teenaged relative. The date needn’t be a romantic one, but just a way to spend time together and pose for pictures.

SiBling Set-uP

Take a friend. Provided the school doesn’t have strict rules about prom “couples,” bring whatever friend you want to be your prom “date.” You are likely to feel much more comfortable with someone you know by your side hamming it up for photographs and making sure you don’t share all of your secret dance moves on the dance floor.

by nAtAlie henryPut down the face paint! Achieving the perfect smoky eye is easier than you think. Professional makeup artist Jenniva Saunders gives us easy step-by-step instructions that will give you a flawless look without leaving the bedroom mirror.

Smokin’Make your eyes look smoldering hot!

Apply the darker color into the crease and the outer corner of the eye with a blending brush. Make sure to use a blending brush or else it will look like you have a black eye — and don’t even think about using fingers, ladies!

Using the blending brush, highlight by stroking the light color directly underneath the brow.

Add black liquid or gel liner to your upper lash line, above the lashes. Then use a black eyeliner pencil for the inside rim of the bottom of your eye.

Top it off with your favorite mascara and you’re done!

Apply the medium color all over your eye from your brow bone down to your eyelid. 2

Tonight is one of the biggest days of your life, your becoming a young adult. It’s knocking on your door, holding a

corsage, and you’re ready for it — you have your Oscar-worthy dress, your hair is pinned up, and your friends and family are waiting. There is just one thing you have left to do: your makeup! But what products should you use, and how? Not to worry! You can get glam-azon gorgeous with products found at the local drug store or mall. You just need to pick the perfect makeup pieces for your big night:

cleAnsing PAdsThe most important thing to have for Sweet

16 (besides a dazzling dress) is a clean and ac-ne-free face. Aveeno has the perfect product to make sure your face is a clear canvas for your makeup. Clear Complexion Daily Cleansing Pads are hypoallergenic and pre-moistened with salicylic acid, which helps clean your face and fight future breakouts. They are available for $6.99 at www.drugstore.com.

foundAtionNow that your face is flawless and smooth,

it is time to remove any discoloration. A good foundation is just what you need to get that airbrushed look you want for your party pic-tures. It will help you conceal those pesky blemishes and any last minute pimples. L’Oreal makes a gentle, non-clogging founda-tion called True Match Naturale that comes in powder form — it goes on smoothly and gives a flawless, natural finish that looks a lot like mineral makeup.

Here’s a tip: dip the brush into the powder and then tap the excess powder off of the brush before applying. An extra tip we like to offer for this particular product is to use a paper plate when applying. After you dip the brush in the makeup container, tap the excess powder off the brush and onto a paper plate, that way you can use excess powder on the plate instead of dipping your brush back into the makeup con-tainer. Once you’re done, you can bend the pa-per plate in half and funnel whatever powder you didn’t use back into the container — this way you never waste any of the product! Also,

when applying, make sure to brush the pow-der over your skin in a circular motion and to go past your face. Place some by your ears and down your neck, blending it in, so it looks even and natural. This product also contains SPF 19 sunscreen, for daily protection from the sun. It is available at most drugstores and $13.99 at www.ulta.com.

blushFor that finished rosy glow you are going

to want to use a smooth, non-clogging blush. L’Oreal’s True Match blush is the perfect choice for a natural-looking flush. Use it to bring out your cheekbones and get that runway-model face. Just make

sure that you choose a color that matches your complexion. For instance, if you have fair skin, the color “Baby blossom” will give you a sweet flush while “Spiced plum” will make cheek-bones on darker complexions pop. True Match blush is available for $9.99 on www.beautyen-counter.com.

eye mAkeuPIf you are looking to make your eyes pop on

your prom night look, use Almay Intense eye shadow. There are three individual shades for every eye color, from green to brown, and each combination enhances your natural beauty. For an added pinch of pizzazz, add a little glit-ter to your lid with Lorac 3D Liquid Luster by Sephora. It is shockingly bright and sparkly and it goes on like liquid eyeliner and dries im-mediately. This product will last you all night and will not smudge. For dramatic, smoky eyes, use eyeliner along the edges of your eye-lid and the bottom of your eye. Almay Intense also provides a liner that goes flawlessly with your iris’s shade.

For long, striking lashes, use Lash Blast by Cover Girl. This Woman’s Health Beauty Award winner will extend your lashes like you would not believe! Lorac 3D is available for $16 on www.sephora.com. Lash Blast mascara can be found for $8.99 on www.walgreens.com. Almay Intense is available for $7.49 at www.drugstore.com or at www.almay.com.

liPstickEvery girl wants shimmery, kissable lips for

prom. And lipstick will add that finishing touch to your makeup masterpiece. Sephora Col-lection’s Color Lip Last is a comfortable prod-uct that gives you a beautiful hue for up to 10 hours. More importantly, it will make everyone take notice. You can find it for $12 at www.sep-hora.com. Pucker up!

Look sweeter than ever when you turn 16
