Secretary’s Report 2016.

.

2015 was a great year for Ballyboden St. Endas both on and off the field. Pride of place is an All – Ireland Final win for our Mens Senior Football team. From the first Dublin Championship match to their recent historic Club Final win, this team, and management displayed a huge appetite for hard work, skill, and commitment. All our thanks are due to them, and all who helped the team on and off the field, in their campaigns in Dublin, Leinster and finally the All – Ireland series.

All our other Senior A teams reached the semi-finals of their various County Championships. Among our various County Championship wins across all four codes, it was great to see County Championship wins for our Junior hurlers in C & E competitions.

Our Director of Coaching Brian O ’Regan, club coach Paul Mc Loughlin and the Coaching Executive continue to ensure that our quality of coaching is maintained at the highest levels for all players, of all codes and across all teams.

Significant off the field achievements included increasing activities at Set Dancing and Céiles, Traditional Music, Saturday coffee mornings, our Theatre Group, Bingo, Active Retirement activities, Pool, Na Siúltóirí, Golf outings, Christmas Party, Ciorcal Cainte, Friday Card nights, and much more.

The ongoing Coiste an Chéid programme of events is a source of great information and interest to all club members and our community at large.

The club communication section daily updates our Facebook/ Twitter pages, produces a weekly newsletter, with current news items received from all club sections also updated daily on the clubs website. Thanks are due in this regard to Sinéad Ryan, Neil Buckingham, Paddy Bates and Cathy Murray. Numerous events both social and cultural, involving input from our members of all ages, continue to reinforce a spirit of comradeship and unity within the club.

Voluntary effort involving members giving of their time continues to at the core of the club. However it remains a challenge to recruit more volunteers to meet our ongoing needs. One of the greatest gifts members can give to the club is their time.

We thank Mick Farrell and all the Bar staff, Noel Sheridan continues to work quietly and calmly, and always portrays a positive, supportive and patient approach in his dealings with club members, and our other Stakeholders.

Many thanks to everyone who helped me in any way all year.

Le gach dhea ghuí,

Pat Nash.

Section Updates:

Camogie Section 2015 Chairman’s Report

2015 was another good year for the Camogie section in Ballyboden St Endas.

Although the Senior A side missed out on Championship success this year, a significant injury list certainly hindered their chances. On the plus side many of our younger players have gained valuable playing time this year which should hopefully benefit them for the future.

The Senior B’s had a difficult League campaign in Division 2. This was soon forgotten with Championship success. In truth, the set up next year of playing in Division 3 League on a different evening to the A panel, while hopefully having a full complement of players for Division 2 Championship later in the year will enable us to be competitive at this level.

The Senior C’s played well throughout the course of their League campaign, and were unfortunate in losing many games by narrow margins. They began their Championship campaign in terrific style, winning their games by large margins. Unfortunately they were pipped by N Mearnog in their Championship semi-final.

It must be noted that during the Championship campaign, in a competition that is 13-a-side, they had a panel of 30 players togging out, a tremendous achievement considering it is only a couple of years since we were fielding just 2 Adult teams.

Unfortunately some of our Adult players suffered serious injuries throughout the year, and I wish them all a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them excel on the field in 2016.

Of course our losses on the field pale into insignificance when we recall the passing away of Adult mentor Trish Cantwell. Trish, along with Dolores & Rob, was the longest serving mentor in our section. It is due to their hard work that we were in a position to field a 3rd team. Trish was a mentor in every sense of the word, and she had genuine affection for every player who crossed her path. Of course this affection was returned by the players, and I’m sure she was smiling down when Roisin Walsh received the Senior B Championship Cup.

This year the young players who moved from Juvenile into the Adult ranks have all enjoyed the step up. Once again when keeping the Player Pathway document in mind we grouped the girls together in order to minimise the drop-off rate. We are improving in the regard every

Page 15: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

year, and this year’s success is especially down to the work of Geraldine & Natalie who have kept a very high number of last year’s U16B’s involved.

On the Juvenile front it was a mixed year. For the first time we entered the Minor Division 3 League and this got these girls back playing early in the year. They then joined up with the Senior C team for the Adult League campaign, before again playing in the Minor Championship in November.

It promised to be a difficult year for the U16A’s but they acquitted themselves well throughout the campaign, and were very unfortunate to go down narrowly to Lucan in the Shield Final. The U16B’s also competed well in all matches, while the U14B’s had a great year and their highlight was reaching the Féile Final where they suffered a 1 point loss. The U13’s topped their group and got to their Championship semi-final where they were narrowly defeated.

Pride of place must go to the U14A’s who won the double, following up a great Féile success by comprehensively beating Lucan in the Championship Final.

One highlight of the year must be when we hosted the Dublin Féile, and with everybody’s help we once again put on a splendid day, and showed why the Board are always happy to see us put up our hand and offer our facilities for days like this. It also helps when the on field efforts matched those off the field, with both teams reaching their respective Finals!!

We fielded 4 x U9 teams, 3 x U10, 4 x U11, 1 x U13, 2 x U14 and 2 x U16 and 2 x Minor teams this year with all players representing the Club well, and we both visited and hosted many Clubs from around the country. With our numbers in both Juvenile & Adult continuing to grow I have no doubt that we will increase this number again next year.

We once again hosted our U16 Invitation Blitz on the May Bank Holiday, and it was a great success. As a result of us hosting the U14 Intercounty Blitz, our reward was for our U12’s to get to play in the Camán to Croker Blitz in Croke Park and they had a fantastic day.

The year began with our section organising the collection of the Christmas trees throughout the local area (and beyond, some people got serious value for their fiver!!), which was a huge success with €5,000 being collected. Many congratulations to Kieran Rudden, Eoin Reid, Rob Lambert, Barry Murray & Con Nagle on a terrific job co-ordinating same. I’m sure that this will continue to grow and will continue to be a great form of fundraising for the Camogie section.

I would like to place on record my thanks to each and every person involved with all of our Camogie teams, whether as Coach, Mentor, First Aid, etc. I assure you that your efforts are certainly appreciated by me. Once again I would like to give a special mention to the mentors of our ‘B’teams, who give as much time and dedication as all other mentors without sometimes getting the recognition.

I would like to give a special mention to our mentors who stepped aside at the end of 2015. Joan Feehan who was our lead mentor with the U12’s, Tony Sweeney the lead mentor with the U13’s and Dolores Greene, our longest serving mentor.

Off the field, many people have given us assistance in so many different ways to help us during the year -

To Catherine & Orla who continued to be a great source of advice throughout the year. Orla has also looked after the Insurance and Injury claims of all of our players.

Page 16: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

To the Club Executive for their great work throughout the year. People must remember that success isn’t an entitlement due to the size of our Club, but the work done off the field by the Executive gives all of us the opportunity to aim for success on the field.

To Club Manager Noel Sheridan for his invaluable work. Always helpful and efficient, Noel is our unsung hero’ never looking for praise but always there to help.

To our sponsors. To Club sponsor H&K International for their generosity. Also Rathfarnham & District Credit Union and Knocklyon Parish who continue to be so generous, and of course to Danny Griffin for his never ending work in bringing sponsorship funds into our Club.

To Brian O’Regan & Paul McLoughlin for their support during the year, and also many thanks to everybody involved at the Academy. It is great to see so many of our young players helping here.

To John Cummins for his excellence in hurl repairs, and for Catherine’s patience answering the knocks on her door!

To the Dublin Camogie Board for their work during the year To Gráinne Corcoran for her work as our referee co-ordinator. This was Grainne’s

first year in this role and she has looked after all of our refereeing needs efficiently.. To Mick and the Bar staff. To Yvonne Walsh & Edel Tevlin for their work as our Board Delegates. To everybody involved in the various Committees, be in Communications,

Coaching, Finance, Registration, Development & Maintance, etc who make this such a fine Club.

To Jean Gargan in her role as Childrens Officer. To my wife Pauline, Danielle, Jodie & Charlie (the man surrounded by women!) for

their patience with me during the year.

I certainly have enjoyed the year, and am the first to admit that the Camogie Section is like one big team, with everybody pulling in the same direction. I would like to thank all players & mentors for their input this year, and hope that 2016 will bring us all good health, happiness and silverware.

AGM 2015 Ladies Football Section Report

Before I look back of the year it would be remiss of me not to congratulate the Senior men football team on the fantastic Dublin and Leinster Championship final wins. We all look forward to the All-Ireland club semi-final in February. To say it given the hold club across board a big sense of pride in the achievements so far we wish Andy McEntee and the team well for 2016.

Page 17: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

In 2015 we fielded 32 teams from U9 to Adult hours of training and matches trip`s away to other counties for challenge matches and adventure along the way to Wexford and Leitrim to name but a few. Even Sam made appearance at an end of year party along with Jim Gavin The academy numbers continue to rise in the 3 location PUM, Ballycullen and Hermitage under the stewardship of Brian and Paul.

Team reports attached given the highlights of the year. Success at U13A winning the cup and 13C winning the shield final, U14A team although beaten in Féile final went on the represent Dublin in the regional final and came home with the silverware. Further success at U14 for the B and C teams winning Championship shield and league respectively. U16B team captured the league undefeated and the C team picked up a deserved Championship Shield. The adult teams had mixed fortunes over the season the Minor A beaten in Championship semi-final and depleted Senior A beaten by strong opposition. Senior B made it all the way to Final but on the day came up against a very strong O`Toole teams.

Volunteerism is the golden phrase always plenty willing to help and step up when asked. Reading through the end of year reviews the is a common theme the number of young players given up there spare Saturday morning or evening to help coaching the in the academy and young ladies teams. Much appreciated by all also taking to complete the foundation level course under the guidance of Brian and Paul

This year was a very important year for this group of girls as they “donned” the Boden jersey for the first time in structured go games. The coaches are delighted to report that improvements can be seen in all girls but most importantly the enjoyment levels remain high as evidenced by the “recruitment” of six new members after the summer – word is spreading!

Highlight of the year would be the girls playing matches for the first time. It should not be underestimated how important this “step up” is for the girls as it deepens their relationship with the club. Further highlights included, our under 9/ 10 s football blitz in October and last but not least having county representatives Jim Gavin, Johnny Cooper, joined by club captain Daragh Nelson and his senior team mate Darren O’Reilly with 'Sam' at our Christmas party (pictured).

Mentors Carol Donaghy, Marcus Cosgrove, Karen Mc Gibney, Des Murphy, Derek Lawlor, Kieran Rudden, Liam Callan and John Jennings

U10

We began 2015 with 70+ girls and have since had more additions. Again testimony to the power of the Boden message!

Despite some disappointing fixture arrangements, for those games we did play we had a great turn out from our girls. We held our own against all opposition. So while concerned about the lack of games for the girls we set about arranging a few friendlies and both an external and internal blitz.

We hosted a blitz in October with visiting teams from Dunshaughlin, Round Towers and St James’ Gaels. The day was a great success all round with excellent feedback from our visitors.

We rounded off our year with a mini All Ireland of mixed teams and mentors of U9 and U10. A huge thank you, to Una McConnell (parent) whose company sponsored the medals for our mini All Ireland.

The highlight of our year was our day trip to Moorehead GAA where we played teams from Dublin and surrounding Leinster counties, we left the club at 10am in a double decker bus singing all the way to the Curragh. We entered 5 teams and all 5 were very happy with the results. It was a great day out for girls and mentors.

We ended a successful year with 59 girls and 5 mentors attending spin roller disco! The girls wore onesies, Christmas jumpers and hats that really set them apart! A great day was certainly had by all.

Mentors: Karl Burden, Mike Mills, Deborah Heavey, Emer Meath, Tom Brennan, Peter Doyle and Lynn Mulready.

U11

We finished the year with 67 girls actively involved, having started back in January with 63 (55 of those are dual players). The alternating weekends have been instrumental in allowing such a high number of dual players and we are hoping that this format continues next year.

With 38 sessions completed, average attendance has been in the mid 50’s. The girls continue to make great progress with their skills and team work but more importantly their enjoyment of playing football and making friends is very apparent, as we are glad to report we have not lost any players this year.

Highlights of the year for the girls included the club football mini all Ireland in September (played in glorious weather) which was their 1st year to partake and a fantastic day was had by all 57 U11 girls who played on the day. Thanks to Donagh and the organising committee for a memorable day. The very next day the girls again travelled to Croke Park to support the Jackie’s in the All Ireland Final. While the result was disappointing it was still a great day out.

Coaches – Dave Melia, Donagh O’Farrell, Eamonn Reid, Tony Morley, Cathal O`Toole, Seamus Brennan, Carol Donaghy, Ronan Feely, Eoin Reid and Kieran Rudden. A special mention to Beth Molloy and Amy Cunningham for the continued coaching and support they have given the girls during the year which we really appreciate.

U12

The 2003 ladies footballers of Ballyboden St Endas had another successful year in 2015. We had 66 girls registered, with a couple of girls joining during the year and fielded 4 teams with panels of 16/ 17.

Despite the family unfriendly match times of 4pm and 5pm on Sundays, we fulfilled all fixtures. Ideally looking out to the future this is a problem we need to tackle as we have concerns about the potential to lose girls because of it.

All the girls played, trained and competed in a manner that families and club should be proud of. They played all their matches in a sporting manner taking defeat and victory in their stride and in the level headed manner that has become the hallmark of this bunch of girls. Thanks should also be extended to the parents, grandparents and friends who got the girls to training and matches in all weathers. Both as mentors and parents, we are only too aware of the balancing act that is required managing these ladies busy schedules. In 2016, we embark on a new journey as the girls enter into graded U13 competitions.

U13 – three teams

Three teams competed at under 13 with huge numbers at training. After three tough league campaigns, we recharged the batteries with a trip to Wexford (pictured) for football, zip lining and most importantly, a commitment to upping training after the summer.

The dedication and commitment paid dividends as qualification was achieved for finals by all three teams in the division 2 cup, the division 4 shield and the division 6 shield. While we just came up short against Kilmacud Crokes in the division 4 final, a hugely successful day, and a great finish to the year was ensured with silverware secured in the other two finals.

The division 2 cup final saw our Boden team overpower Beann Eadair. Our division 6 team won a tense victory against St. Monica’s. Huge thanks is due to Orlaith Keane for her dedication and help. Given the attendances at training and matches and the great performances put in by all three teams, all augers well for under 14 next year.

Mentors: Mary Hyland, Conor Daly, Mark Mellett, Brendan Coyne, Pat Reynolds, Donagh O’Farrell, Paddy O’Connell, Gerry Cassels, Mark Edwards and Paul Thompson

Under 14A

Highlights for The ladies Under 14A on the field of play was success in June in the regional Feile competition having finished runners-up in the Dublin Feile final where the team finally succumbed to the numerous injuries picked up in the qualifying rounds. This team played some super football during the year but were also unfortunate to be on the wrong side of a one point loss in the championship final. A last minute goal in a great match for the neutrals denied the girls the win their season deserved.

With an almost 100% attendance record at training and an excellent level of commitment in matches, this group of girls are a credit to the club, their mentors, parents and most importantly to themselves. No doubt many of them will go on to achieve future success with Ballyboden. Off the field the girls had a really enjoyable day in September travelling to support the Dublin Senior Ladies Football team in the All Ireland final.

Thanks go to Donal Woodcock and Irish Life for sponsoring the jerseys for Feile and to our female liaison officer, Bernadette Byrne for her support all year.

Mentors: Martin Murphy, Stuart Ramsden, Donal Woodcock, Diarmuid Fitzgerald & Ian Horan.

The U14B Team is a talented and determined group of players – and proved their worth over the 2015 Season which ended in a great win in the U14 Division 3 Shield Final.

Success at U13 level, when we won the U13 Division 3 league, meant promotion to U14 Division 2 for the new league campaign. The campaign was difficult up against strong A teams from other clubs but despite a series of losses the talent and determination in the squad was there for everyone to see.

It was also Feile year and great excitement and bonding was built up through fundraising and at training and we entered the competition in great spirits. Alas the Division 2 level

Page 20: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

proved tough and despite showing great spirit and fight in all our games we bowed out of the competition at the group stage

After the summer break we regrouped for the Division 3 Championship determined to get the success the team’s efforts deserved. And the success the team deserved came their way with a superb performance against Raheny A in the Shield Final to bring the Shield back to Firhouse Road.

Pizza and “Spice-Bags” were the order of the day at the presentations back in the Clubhouse to round off a great year for the Team.

Mentors: Linda McCullagh, Liam Duffy, Eoin Leahy, Liam Murphy, Ciaran McCarthy, Leonard Brennan

U14 C Team

We started the year with a Panel of 21 players who worked really hard to improve their skills. Thanks to these committed young ladies we had a superb league campaign where we went unbeaten and finished in top place.

In the championship we won our three group games and qualified for the semi -final , We unfortunately lost to a very strong Lusk Team in the semi but the girls gave their all and battled to the end.

In the Feile we had a great win against Cuala B but lost out in the Group stages.

We can reflect on a year that was very successful in all competitions and the hard work put in by the girls was rewarded as league champions. We are delighted to confirm that all the girls are committed to playing again next year which is great news and a lot of them are more than capable of playing at a higher level.

MENTORS Adeline Coffey, Ann Marie Dooney, Alan Fairbrother, Tom Finnegan

U15

In what was a first for some time we entered an u15 team and it proved a wise move. The girls had a great year finishing 3rd in Division 4, which proved competitive enough to be promoted to Division 3 in the Championship. Unfortunately despite their valiant efforts they came up against a strong Lucan team in the Semi Final of Shield.

Highlight of the year has to go to the Team bonding weekend in Leitrim. The girls had an absolute ball and were treated like royalty by their terrific hosts DrumReilly. In perhaps the most fitting end to a fantastic weekend we drew the match against DrumReilly!

As further evidence of this groups’ dedicated commitment to the club they were an invaluable support at the recent highly successful ladies Quiz night.

Overall the mentors are delighted to reflect back on a good year. Having commenced with a panel of 22 starting out we finished with 19 and most encouragingly it looks like almost 100% commitment to continue into 2016

Mentors; Stephen Campbell, Colm Bolger

Under 16A and U16B.It has been a pleasure for the U16 coaching team to work with the girls of 1999 and 2000.

Page 21: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Their determination and dedication to developing as individuals and as a squad has been inspiring. As far back a February they set a target of competing in the final stages of the Leagues and Championships, a courageous target for a newly formed squad. The reward for their hard work was Div 2 title for the U16 B girls and Div 1 runners up for the U16A. These were excellent achievements.

Although the Div 1 girls reached the semi-final stage of the Championship, a place in the final was not to be. But the effort and will to learn, play and compete was what defined these girls.

It has been an objective of the club over the past couple of years to sustain the numbers of girls transitioning from under age football into the senior levels. The experience of the 1999 girls over the course of 2014 and 2015 sets a solid foundation for transition. These girls have continued developing and improving their football skills and have established strong social connections with the years above and below them and as the 1999 girls go forward into next year they will be met by former teammates. The 2000 girls have grown significantly through 2015 and their experiences will be very beneficial in supporting the girls who will move into the Under 16 squad next year.

All in all it has been a great year. Thanks to the girls for all the fun and excitement they gave Ballyboden, parents, family and friends this year.

Mentors: Noel Lynn, Paul Manning, Jim Dwyer, Ned Flood, Brendan Young, Andrew McGrane, Neil Buckingham

U16 C

It is really encouraging to report that the C team consistently had 19/20 girls for each game, and all girls enjoyed game time at every game.

During the year a number of girls moved to either A and B panels which was great to see for them personally but also encouraged the wider panel

Competing in Division 4 with NINE A teams the team were very competitive and finished 3 rd. overall. That is an excellent result.

A slow start to championship with early defeats meant that the team needed to beat Whitehall Colmicilles to get to the Shield Final. This was achieved in a solid but not spectacular fashion however it set the team up to compete in a Championship Final. Despite the long wait for the final – over 2 months and played in very difficult conditions, the girls defeated St Sylvester’s by 1 point in a thrilling final, which ended Ballyboden 4 – 7 to St Sylvester’s 2 – 12.

Well done to all the girls who stayed the course who deserved their success in both league and championship

Minor A;

Tom Ball and Dave Mellon took on the challenge of running the Minor A team in 2015. Starting with a small panel to work with, our League Campaign proved to be challenging and despite the best efforts of the girls we finished down the table.

Managing a Minor team is a very unique experience and different to under age level. Dealing with players who are attending College, studying for the Leaving Cert and working you never get to put your best 15 on the pitch at any one time.

However, the latter part of the year brought something different and is the reason we took up coaching.

With a full panel now available to us for championship and the added experience of Dave Ryan to the coaching team, our season really kicked off. We played some fantastic football and frightened the life out of our nearest rivals Kilmacud coming within a score of them. We played Templeogue Synge Street in the Semi Final but came up just short on the day.

The nucleus of the present Ballyboden Minor A team is still eligible for 2016. With the great talent also coming through from the U16s, we are confident that we can compete for both League and Championship honours next season.

Thank you to the ladies of the Minor a team for their commitment to the cause

Mentors: Tom Ball, Dave Mellon, Dave Ryan

Minor BWhile the year started slowly with small numbers at early season training, attendance numbers picked up dramatically after a few weeks and were at a level where we were able to register two minor teams for the league.

The league proved difficult for the girls with the age old story of some opposition teams being placed in divisions below their ability. However the girls were resilient and gave it their all.The championship got off to a great start with a win over Thomas Davis that proved enough to get the girls into the Shield semi-final. After many postponements we eventually took the field away to Skerries Harps where we unfortunately came up just short against a very good team. The girls gave all they had and the mentors couldn't have asked for any more. The mentors would like to thanks the girls for the effort and commitment and in particular all the laughs over the year.

Ladies Senior A Football 2015

The Senior Ladies Football panel maintained their league division one status after another year disrupted by injuries. In the championship they reached the semi-final going down to St. Brigid’s after a great fight back in the second half of a tough game.

Over 40 players were played in all competitions. The impact of injuries and summer travelling necessitated the need for a large panel.

Sincere thanks to the under 16, Minor and Senior B mentors for helping out with players during the season.

Page 23: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Hard luck to Ciara and Rachel Ruddy and the Dublin Senior Ladies on their defeat in the All Ireland. Best wishes to Rachel Ruddy, Katie Murphy, Doireann Mullany, Claire King and Jennifer Walsh as they recover from long term injuries.

It can prove frustrating for the club players as the opportunities to play in summer months are interlinked with the performance of the country team. As the Jackies progressed to the All Ireland final it had a knock on impact on games.

The age profile of the Senior Ladies panel is young and there is no doubting the potential talent of the current group and the players coming through. They have established a style of play that will serve them well going forward. We have no doubt this will improve with a consistent settled panel playing from week to week.

Mentors: Derek Ward, Seán Crowley, Declan O Reilly, Tom Mullany, Pat McGrath

Senior B

Thanks to the efforts of Sorcha Farrelly (who truly epitomises the “Boden” spirit) on behalf of the players a new management team of Vincent Carney, Shay Devlin, Jimmy Walsh and Sorcha Farrelly was appointed in March. Despite a late start to training and some worrying moments on attendance numbers at early games and sessions, the year went from strength to strength.

The addition of some Minor players was to make a huge difference in both numbers and levels of fitness and we now have a panel with a nice blend of youth and experience.

The highlight of the playing year was getting to championship Final and while the final result was not what we might have hoped for, (a defeat to a very strong O’Tooles team), the season overall was a tremendous success. This group of players excelled far and beyond all expectations and always gave of their best in every game. One of the other highlights of the year was the great camaraderie and craic within the team and the great support that the younger players got from the experienced hands like Sorcha, Aishling, Teresa and Joanne.

2015 Highlights

Strictly Boden the Sequel

The Ladies Football Section were well represented on the night.  Yet again proving to be a great success and was a great Club night in Citywest hotel, well over a 1000 people attended. Once again the ladies section prevail with Ian Horan and Mairead Luttrell dancing the Charleston to bring the house down and dance away with the winner’s trophy. Well done to all the dancers on the night

Féile

April saw our Féile teams suited and booted heading off to their host club the A team remaining home as we hosted the group our B team to Skerries and our C team to St Anne’s park. It what can only be described as awful weather conditions the volunteers of many setting up pitches, dressing rooms and hosting the hordes. Sweeping brushes at the ready to sweep the rain from the Cherryfield pitches sure was the extent of the rain. Special thanks here to the U15 ladies for the great job providing tea and etc. Although we weren’t to have success on the weekend the A team beaten in the final. They would go on to take the honours in June in the regional finals.

Football Blitz

The Ladies Football tournament was another great success this year and yet again we were blessed with the weather.  There was a teams from U11-U16 competing in the 7 aside competition which kicked off at 10 in the morning and ran right up to 4.00 p.m. This day couldn’t have happen again without a hard work and dedication of the organising committee driven by Donagh O`Farrell, Dave McMyler and Mary Hyland and the many others who contributed and helped on the day with all the setting up from early morning to generous sponsorship of Supervalu. Finally to master chef Dave Mellon and his team of cooks for serving the legendary burgers on the day another roaring success. Roll on 2016.

The Ladies All –Ireland Final Croke Park

Boden on mass headed to Croke Park on 3 packed buses to support our Boden representatives in Ciara Ruddy and Rachel Ruddy unfortunately injured earlier in the season for Dublin Senior team vs Cork. Table Quiz

At a committee meeting back in October attended by club chairman Brendan Moran we were asked as a section to fundraise. Few ideas were banded about with at the table and finally a table quiz muted as the front runner. Stephen Campbell, Donagh O`Farrell and Cathal O` Toole headed this up the aim to have the biggest amount of tables ever sold in the club for the night. Each week until the big night in November the inbox of all in the ladies section pinged. Pledges for tables and spot prizes a plenty. Finally the night arrived over 70 tables of 4 persons unbelieve logical nightmare as we had tables in the bar.

A tremendous successful night for the ladies section and big thanks to club chairman Brendan Moran for his quiz master skills. Also to all that helped make it such a success.

With Gratitude

The Ladies Football Committee would like to thank everyone involved with Ladies Football teams for all the hard work and commitment they have put in over the year.  This work ensures the growth and development of all our teams and continues to give enjoyment for some many young girls.

Special mention for registrar Linda Jago not only does Linda ensure all the girls are registered she also had to undertake a new registration procedure as part of central council new system were all registration had to be inputted on line.

AGM April 2016 - Football Section Report

Football Report 2015/2016

All Ireland Senior Club ChampionsSt. Patrick’s Day 2016 will live forever in the memories of all Boden football players and supporters. We will never forget the senior football team’s epic journey which started by defeating St. Maur’s back in April, next Crokes, then Oliver Plunketts, Clontarf and finally St. Vincent’s in the Dublin County final. But they didn’t finish there. In their sights was a first Leinster title – defeating St. Pats the Louth champions, next defeating St. Lomans the Westmeath champions and finally Portlaoise in a pulsating match to capture the clubs first ever men’s Leinster football title. All matches took place outside of Dublin!! Next up were

Page 26: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Clonmel Commercials and the team delivered their most resilient performance by coming back from the jaws of defeat to take the game to extra time and eventually to their first ever All-Ireland final. And Cometh the hour, cometh the team, our senior football team delivered the perfect performance on the biggest stage to capture their first All-Ireland Club success. The result looked after itself as they completely out-played Castlebar Mitchel’s who were the bookies favourites. The victory places Ballyboden Senior Footballers top of the pile. Congrats to all involved especially the Players and management. You richly deserve this success given your commitment, work ethic, heart and of course skill demonstrated over the last 14 months in particular. You have made many friends along the road and the scenes witnessed both in Croke Park and later back at the club that night will be difficult to replicate. We are all very proud of what you have achieved. And now in a couple of weeks you have to repeat it all over again!!!!! This puts Ballyboden football where we want to be at the cutting edge and hopefully we can go on to deliver further success. However, we also know that this victory will inspire other clubs to try even harder to repeat our success – and that will be a challenge for us. You are and will be an inspiration for so many of our younger members. Enjoy every moment.

The displays by the senior footballers was as good as we have seen in the Boden Blue & White. This was no accident as the team has built on the hard work put in over the last number of seasons and they were rewarded for their dedication and commitment. There is a great mixture of youth and the experience in the team and we could clearly see the squad gaining in confidence with each step taken. This is a major achievement for the club and great credit must go to everyone involved especially the players and management who through their hard work and commitment made the dream become a reality. A special mention must be given to the team of club members who put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to ensure that All Ireland Final Day was a special day for the club – the Executive, Games Executive, Football Committee, Sponsors, Club PRO, Bar staff, All-Ireland committee, local businesses, the Community and of course to our many supporters. Thankyou everyone.

Leaving the above aside, it has been a great year for football in Ballyboden as you can see from the honours and achievements listed below. Firstly, 2015 began with the U21s winning the 2014 Under 21 championship, followed by the Inters winning the Joy Cup and promotion to Division 3 and of course the Seniors winning the Dublin, Leinster and All Ireland Club Final in Croke Park. The Minor A team lost narrowly in the Minor A championship final and Minor B & C both reached the knockout stages of their championships respectively. Elaborating on each of the other Adult teams below;

Intermediates

This team also had a very successful year. Winning the Joy Cup and gaining promotion to Division 3 were the main highlights. It was the manner of their play – a mixture of fast play, slick passing and some excellent score taking. In addition, many of the players have sampled senior football on a number of occasions throughout the year which is a positive for the entire squad.I would like to pay a particular mention to Collie Leane who is stepping away from the team due to family commitments. Many thanks Collie for your long service.

Page 27: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Junior AsOverall 2015 was a very challenging year for this team. The team succeeded to hold on their league status but we know they are capable of much more. In the championship, the team lost narrowly to Crokes in extra time in a game they played very well but came up short. Some players will have to revisit their commitment to the team as we know they are capable of more.

One person stepping down who deserves a special mention for his dedication to the club and in particular to this team, is John Mulligan. I know John won’t be far away. Thanks John for all your support and commitment.

Junior Bs

It was a solid season by the team. They finished just outside the playoffs for promotion, reached the semi final of the cup and were beaten by a point in the quarter final of the c/ship. This team has worked hard and with a little bit of luck and injection of new blood they can make the step to the next level. Success is very close at hand.

Under 21s

What a great start it was to 2015 with the U21s overcoming Raheny, in addition to Crokes and Na Fianna to finish with the first silverware of the year. A long wait for this trophy, last won in 2003. It was an exceptional performance that gave a welcome boost and got the football section believing this could be a sign of greater things to come. The resilience of the team despite the haphazard nature of this championship was to be admired. It was also great to see so many of these players come through to the adult ranks. In the 2015 championship, the U21s lost against Kilmacud Crokes. The team were short many of their players on the day due to their involvement with the senior team in the Leinster championship.

It was a first for a number of years fielding a second U21 team. They succumbed to a St. Finnian’s team who were odds on favorites to advance to the semi-finals. However, it was not before the lads pushed them all the way only to lose out in the final 10mins of the match. A great effort by Jimmy Walsh and his management team to ensure we fielded a second team at this age level.

Minors

It is difficult to believe that in 2015 we fielded 4 minor teams. We got to the championship final with the As, the semi-final with the Bs and championship quarter final with the Cs. The performance by the Minor As in the final against Ballymun was exceptional, where little chance was given to them progressing out of their group let alone pushing the single most dominant team at their age group, to their limit. This would have created another first by the football section in holding Minor A, Under 21 and Senior championships in the one year.

Hopefully these lads and the second year minors can go on and continue their development in Adult football. Indeed, a number of the lads in this category have sampled football at adult level this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers who help us get our teams ready on the field of play. In particular, I would like to thank Senior Management team led by Andy McEntee, the Inters led by Shane Brooks, the Junior As by John Mulligan and Junior Bs led by Martin O’Donnell. In addition, I would like to thank the Under 21As led by Noel Madden the 21Bs led by Jimmy Walsh, the Minor As led by Neil Brennan, the Minor Bs led

Page 28: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

by Brian Weldon, the Minor Cs led by Dermot 0’Reilly and the Minor Ds led by Cathal O’Toole.

I would also like to welcome the new blood into the various management teams – Eugene Duffy, John Coughlan and Sean Crowley (Seniors/Inters), Daire Walsh and Ian Clarke (Minors) and finally, Mark O’Sullivan (Junior A).

As we start into a new season in 2016 there have been a number of changes across the management teams and we look forward to the year ahead with renewed confidence and optimism.

Finally, a thank you for all your support and the effort of the players. You continue to bring entertainment to the many that watch our games week in week out. Keep up the excellent work.

Representative honours

Pride of place must go to Michael Darragh Macauley on picking up his third All-Ireland football winners medal back in September against Kerry.

We had a very strong representation at Under 21 level - Darragh Gogan, Tom Hanifin, Sam Molony, Colm Basquel and Shane Clayton - the team losing out in the semi-final of the All-Ireland. While at minor level our representatives were James Holland and Barra McGarry.

We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Brian O’Regan as selector and coach to the Dublin Minor team. Indeed, Brian also offered great coaching support to our own Minor football team following Dublin’s exit from the c/ship.

Sponsorship/Fundraising

The section, especially given its success this year, is no different to the rest of the clubs in that we have had to make significant efforts to match revenue with expenditure. We would especially like to thank our main sponsor, H&K and Dave Bobbett without whose support we would be unable to develop as we have. We also managed to secure a secondary sponsor in the name of Trubake and Frank Basquel and again we would sincerely like to thank Frank for his significant contribution. In addition, we would like to thank our individual sponsors Rathfarnham Credit Union, George King, The Blue Haven, RoofMart, Shovlin Tiling, Pat Doyle, Jim Keane, Finnian Hyland and Darby Timbs,

In addition, we would also like to acknowledge the contribution of our Strictly Dancers and Golfers this year. These events are essential to raising much needed funds and in addition creating a great sense of togetherness within the club, where all sections come together socially for the benefit of the club.

Finally, on this topic, no word of thanks would be complete without acknowledging Danny Griffin for all his effort in securing sponsorship for the teams.

Poignant Events

On a sad note, we remember the tragedy that unfolded in Berkeley during the summer and especially remember the Culligan family along with all the other families impacted at this time. These events remind us that we can’t take things for granted and that while sport is

Page 29: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

important, it is just sport. It is especially sad when young men and women are struck down in their prime.

We also remember the Conway family on the passing of Bill. Bill served as head barman for many years and was a great supporter of the club.

Mile Buiochas

In order to keep the section running efficiently it requires a lot of teamwork from the committee and a large number of other volunteers. To the Executive and Games Executive a special thank you. To all the section chairs for their co-operation and support during the year. On behalf of the Football Section, I would like to formally thank all my fellow committee members for putting up with me - especially Padraig, Jim, Neil, Pat, Conor, Frank, Donie, Eoin and Darby. Behind the scenes I would like to thank Paddy Walsh, John Galvin, John Lennon, Dan O’Sullivan, Brian O’Regan, Noel Sheridan and Mike Farrell and his staff. Your support is much appreciated. I also wish to acknowledge the contribution made by Sinead Ryan throughout the year for her role in promoting the football section and her dealings with the media.

Finally, to my wife Adrienne and family for their support, facilitating me in fulfilling my role as

Chair. It has been a privilege and I would like to take this opportunity to wish Eoin well in

the role.

2015 Hurling Report For the families of six young students 2015 will always be remembered as the year they lost a child in Berkley. Among these six students was our own Eoghan Culligan as well as Eimear Walsh, Ashley Donohue, Olivia Burke, Niccolai Schuster, and Lorcán Miller. In

Page 30: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

addition, a number of other students suffered severe injuries which will forever change their lives. In light of such tragedy, sport was a distraction but it was also a way of enabling us as a Club to come together to offer our support to those families.

On the pitch it is probably fair to say we had a mixed year overall in terms of performance and results. Most clubs would be delighted with the achievements of our teams in 2015 but we have set high standards and we will continue to strive to meet these.

We entered team in 5 Adult Championships and we won 2 of these, Junior C and Junior E. We were beaten in the Final of the Senior B Championship and only lost this game after extra time to a very strong St Oliver Plunketts team. We lost in the semi-final of the A Championship to our friends and rivals Cuala and they have since gone on to win out Dublin and to reach the Leinster Club Final.

We also entered 2 Minor Teams and won the Minor C Championship by beating St. Sylvesters on a score line of 3.06 to 1.11 after extra time. Congratulations to the players and managers alike for their never say die attitude.

There is no doubt that 2015 has been a year of transition for hurling in the club. It was one where the new senior management have learnt the perils of trying to coach and manage a squad which is missing a large number of key players for a major part of the season. This problem is nothing new, especially to this club, but it is heartening to see that this issue now appears to have been finally recognised by Croke Park. Hopefully some of the proposed changes will be adopted and the GAA will revert back to the Clubs and away from being totally dominated by the demands of the inter-county scene. We had a farcical situation this year where we were forced to play a Division 1 League game without our inter- county players and also play a Senior B Championship game at the same time. How can anyone try to suggest that this situation helps develop the game in Dublin?

The issues we experienced in 2014 with trying to field two teams in Division 4 were encountered again in Division 3 in 2015. The two teams were effectively forced to operate as two separate clubs. It is a great credit to all concerned that our Senior B team won promotion from that division. We will now have a team in each of the top 4 divisions in 2016.

There are reports on the individual team managers later in this report as well as a list of all League and Championship results. An amazing scoring feat of 1-17 from Paul Ryan was not enough to save the Seniors from defeat in the SHC semi-final. Apparently two records were set by two of our teams in Championship this season. Our Junior C team scored an incredible 17-19 to 0-06 win in one game, a winning margin of 64 points. Our Junior E team is widely believed to be the oldest team ever to win a Championship. Many of these players will have far shorter waits for their Pensions and Bus Passes than they had for their first ever Hurling Championship medal.

We had two Minor teams in 2015 and both competed very well in both league and championship. It is however a source of worry that our representation on the county Minor squad remains low and this is an area that needs to be looked at. We have high expectations that the current Under 16s will bring their own brand of success to Minor level in 2016 but we will have to ensure that they are afforded every opportunity to be coached and play at the highest level. We need to ensure they get enough exposure to playing against opposition at the highest level and in this regard I would encourage more games be played against teams from outside Dublin. These young lads, and those following them, are the future of this club.

Page 31: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Once again this year there has been terrific co-operation between all the teams, managers and players alike, and this reflects very well on all concerned. Players on occasions were asked to step up a grade to assist in fulfilling and always did so. They can be proud that their contribution as not only did they help the club field a team but in most cases they helped us win the games. Perhaps we too often label players as being of a grade whereas they may be more than capable of performing at a higher level.

As a club we need to look at how best we can re-introduce the FUN back into hurling. The level of commitment and dedication to training that is now demanded of players and management alike is alarming for an amateur sport. The long drawn out structure of the season for club players means that these players are kept on-the-boil for far too long. This, in my opinion, makes life very difficult for young men who are also trying to balance studies, careers, and family life. I am constantly amazed at how they do all this and in many cases also help coach juveniles and present medals when asked.

Team Reports

Senior TeamsWe, as a management team, decided to take on both the Senior A and B teams at the beginning of the year. In my opinion this proved to be successful. In total we had a panel of 50 players with a further 10 to 15 players being used throughout the year to field teams for various matches. With both teams training together this allowed us as a management team to look at every player involved and to give all players a fair chance. It also improved team unity which was identified as a problem by players at the beginning of the year. However this can be improved further next year. Another positive regards the panel was that it allowed us to introduce six minor players into the senior ranks, of which four of these played Senior A at some stage during the year.

Senior A

Our Senior A campaign began with pre-season training mid-January in preparation for our league opener against Craobh Chiarain which resulted in a draw. This was a sign of things to come in the league with mixed results throughout, eventually finishing fourth in the table.

The championship started with a win over Crumlin. We went on to qualify top of our group. We then secured a quarter final win over St. Vincent’s. The year ended with a disappointing semi-final result against Cuala, in a game where we underperformed from start to finish. From a management point of view we have learned a lot and can see where improvements can be made.

Senior B

We couldn’t ask much more of our Senior B’s who reached the county final only to lose out narrowly after extra time to a better team in Olive Plunketts on the night. Our main goal for the league was to regain Division 2 status which was achieved by a gallant performance to overcome Naomh Barrog in the final playoff game.

Our biggest obstacle during the year was the availability of our county players due to no fault of their own, with massive demands been put on them at county level. However the more worrying thing was at one stage during the year we had 13 players out of with country for six weeks or longer which made it very difficult to field teams during the summer months.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to both my selectors Terry and Sean for their massive dedication and support throughout the year. Thanks to Shane and Donagh for all their help on the strength and conditioning side. I would also like to thank all other management teams at adult level who allowed us the use of their players to field teams at difficult times during the year. All my respect must go to the men who were always in the background doing the thankless jobs that our setup could not have worked without; Mick O ’Regan, Dennis Doyle and Declan Fitzpatrick. Finally, to John Small and Brendan Moran and the club in general, a huge thanks for all your support from start to finish.

Intermediate

Page 34: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Our League campaign saw us achieve the play off points for promotion but fall short on score difference. We won 5 games and drew 1 game (against Thomas Davis). Our wins were achieved against first teams in all case’s bar one. This was no mean achievement for a third team who could not use any of the players from the second team because we were in the same league division.

Our championship was disappointing as we did not make the play offs. We drew one game (against that team again Thomas Davis) in the round robin which was to prove costly. We secured Intermediate Championship status for 2016 by beating Clan Na Gael in the relegation play-offs.

I would like to thank Glen Tai and Eoin Small who organised preseason training on Saturday mornings pro bono. We also engaged Mick Carruth who ran about 6 weeks of training in his gym in Drimnagh.

I would like to thank the players on the Intermediate team. We have had some great laughs and fun over the last 3 years. A bit of hardship and occasional giving out was also evident but we had far more good days than bad.

Finally I would to thank my fellow mentors John Ryan, Alan Ryan, Alex McCarthy and Mick Glynn.

Junior C - WINNERS

The 2015 season saw our Junior hurling team play in AHL 4 and in the Junior C Championship. This season we got much needed access to the previous year’s minor team to bolster our squad. This was a huge addition to what proved to be a most successful season for the squad. Mick Keville came in as coach at the start of February and the improvement in the squad under Mick’s excellent coaching all year was very apparent.

Our goal was to win JCHC this year after many a close shave over the last 4 years. We were drawn in a tough group, but through some great performances we topped the group and were guaranteed a home quarter final at the very least. We faced a young Kilmacud Crokes team in Ballycullen and after a very slow start and falling five points behind the lads showed great steel to come back and win by 4 points in the end. That win set us up for a home semi final in Ballycullen against Civil Service whom we beat fairly comfortably in the group stage. But this was a different Civil Service side. In what was a terrific game for the spectator (but not so much for a mentor!!) a game that ebbed and flowed. We fell five points down mid-way through the first half but got back to within a point at HT. Second half went score for score. Mid way through the second half we led by two points, but two scrappy Service goals left us 4 down with 10 to play. But the character in the team came to fore and we dug deep in the last 10 mins to win by 4 points. Much to everyone involved relief! That set up a county Final with Whitehall who also were unbeaten in Championship coming into the final. We hurled exceptionally well that morning and really put Whitehall to the sword from the early minutes. A great team performance saw us finally win the Junior C Championship by 11 points.

The league was a mixed bag of results. While being competitive we were disappointed not to make a greater push for play offs. We put this down to having to supplement higher teams as was the case for all other teams in the club. Often going out ourselves with just 16 – 17 players, we were greatly helped in such cases by Inter Manager John Small, Junior E Manager Brendan Ryan and Minor Managers Andrew Coffey and Mick Kennedy. We ended

Page 35: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

up finishing mid table and were happy to consolidate our place in AHL 4. We feel this is a very strong level and an attractive level for lads coming out at Minor as we play teams from Junior A, Inter and Senior B Championship. We feel moving forward that the county board needs to look at the scheduling of Adult hurling league games as fixing the four teams at the same time has left all squads grossly depleted at different stages throughout the year thereby diminishing all four teams competiveness in league competitions .

On behalf of the Management team we would like to thank Dave Conway who morning noon or night was on hand to answer any query we had. Thanks to Hurling Chairman and Inter manager John Small, Junior E Manager Brendan Ryan, Minor Managers Andrew Coffey and Mick Kennedy who supplied us with players throughout the season. We would also like to thank Noel Sheridan for all his work on organising pitches, Eithne McGarry for all her work on the injury scheme, John Cummins for his top class hurley repair service. We would also like to thank our colleagues on the hurling committee for all their help and advice throughout the year. Last but by no means least we would like to thank the terrific squad of players for all their efforts throughout the year. The commitment that was shown throughout the year was absolutely magnificent. Whether it was a running session in Cherryfield in February or a hurling session in July, the attitude and approach was the same. Their efforts were richly rewarded in winning the Championship in September.

Ger/David Doyle Managers

Junior E - WINNERS

The Ballyboden St Enda's Hurling team that played in and won the Junior E championship didn't attract any sponsorship or fancy track suits, nor was there even a whiff of payment for the manager. Nevertheless they hurled as hard as they could, drank pints together after every match and achieved a measure of glory at the end. Faded glory some might say, and perhaps glory is only for the young and beautiful but for the third policeman no other team better represents the values, traditions and history of our club than the Junior E hurlers.

Made up of some young men but mostly older. Imagine; men who have hurled for forty years, from boys to men, junior, senior, inter county. Sons of men who hurled and built our club with their bare hands, who trained teams and drove children to matches, men and women who nurtured a small thing and made it great. It was wonderful to see the joy on the faces of young lads who had just watched their fathers winning a Championship. Nothing beats being there!

No other team within the club has as many coaches, many who are sons of coaches, feeding history and tradition. Feels like glory. Never give up, never stop hurling.

In the words of that great Welsh hurler Dylan Thomas; "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light"

Brendan Ryan - Manager

Minor A

2015 was a year of what might have been for the Minor A hurlers. As the squad unfolded at the start of the season there was a lot ‘quick learning’ to be done for the first years as they became accustomed to the step up from juvenile to Minor hurling.

A baptism of fire in the league with starting games against Kilmacud Crokes and Na Fianna was tough but lessons were learned and the players soon settled into some good form.

Page 36: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

The loss of Ruadhan Fanning to a serious knee injury for the season was a huge blow for the team. We wish Ruadhan well in his ongoing recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch next year.

By the summer break the team had edged up the league table to 2nd place and had secured some fine wins along the way, not least an outstanding performance at home to St Vincents which saw a five goal return from the forward line. The hard work being done under the expert coaching of Daragh Spain and Dave Sweeney, along with Naoise Maguire, was paying off and there were serious grounds for optimism going into the business end of the season.

Unfortunately the momentum never got back to the same levels in August and September. A defeat away to St Vincents in the league was a warning shot, and though the championship campaign started well with a fine win at home to Naomh Barrog, six point away defeats to Na Fianna and St Brigids (who both went onto to play against each other in the final) ended the season on a disappointing note.

A huge thanks to Daragh, Dave, Naoise and Dan for the hard work put in with the players this year.

Best wishes to all of the 1997 lads moving into adult hurling next season.

To the 1998 lads who be the ‘senior’ players in the panel next year, I have no doubt you will be keen to show what you are truly capable of and that you will be challenging for league and championship honours in 2016.

Andrew Coffey - Manager

Minor B - WINNERS

The year kicked off with combined training of the minor A and B hurlers. This ensured a good club ethos and with good numbers for training sessions high intensity training sessions ensued. We acknowledge Andrew Coffey, Dan Boland, David Sweeney, Naoise Maguire and Darragh Spain for their excellent work and encouragement of the players.

Our Minor B’s played in Division 3 of the League and finished third from bottom of the 11 teams. And yet, with the exception of a thumping from league winners Na Fianna, we were far from being out of our depth. Three games were lost by a one point margin with another one eventually being posted as a two point defeat when we had in fact won that game by a point. But what difference as we knew by then that our league placing was of no relevance.

Throughout the year responsibilities for match preparation was increasingly handed over to the players including pitch set up, pre match warm ups and team talks. It was clear that the team was packed with willing leaders and a good team spirit was fostered.

Come the championship and in recognition of being shorthanded on the line on match day the search commenced for additional management input. A very short search resulted in Ray McKenna being asked to give a dig out. The question was put at the end of a Junior E match and in among the gasping for oxygen there seemed to be a YES sound. On arrival at

Page 37: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

the next training session the pitch was already marked out with cones and a new regime had commenced. In the following weeks the lads became very familiar with the “Ballycullen Hill” and other Ballycullen tracks where they had sprint races, piggy back races and even had to fight each other off to be the first to reach the rock on top of the hill.

The Championship (C level) saw us pitched against O’Tooles (4 pt league defeat), Kilmacud Crokes (who we beat comfortably in our league fixture but they placed higher than we did) and St Slyvesters (who we drew with in the league).

We were comfortable winners against O’Tooles benefitting from a good start with early goals. Against Crokes we ended up winning by 6 points but with ten minutes to go the margin was a single point and in the face of a Crokes onslaught inspirational defending and a breakaway goal saw us come good. In the final game of the Championship both ourselves and St. Slyvesters had already qualified and it was only a matter of placings. A gritty performance saw us win 1-11 to 0-12. It was clear the team had turned a corner with narrow league defeats being replaced with strength of character and deserved wins.

With an extra team in the opposite group it was six weeks before our semi-final fixture and this was a home tie against Setanta. Late goals secured a convincing win. We now face St Slyvesters, yet again, in the final on the 29th of November.

Irrespective of the outcome of Sunday’s final the Minor B’s have had a very good year. As noted earlier significant thanks go to the Minor A management for their part in making the year a success. Combined training and careful management of players across squads has been a major factor in the Minors B’s progress. A particularly special thanks goes to Ray McKenna for answering the call to arms with such gusto and who I hope has been rewarded, if only in part, by the efforts of the players and the drama of the matches.

A word also for Peadar MacMathuna and Ruadhan Fanning two players who missed this season through injury and had they been available at either A or B level would have added greatly to the minor squads. Thanks to our U16 hurlers who supplemented squad numbers when required. Thanks to the Hurling Section and all in the Club that make it all happen and as ever thanks to John Cummins for masterful hurley repair work.

Minor B Squad: Oisin Carolan, Robert Keegan, Barry Lyons (Captain), Hugh Kelly, Tommy Deane, Ruairi Kirwan, Kevin Flaherty, Joseph Flanagan, Eoin Featherstone, Michael O’Brien, Mark McGee, Sean Choy O’Byrne, Conor Barton, Rory Knight, Mikey Dunne, Eoghan Monahon, Sean Gorman, Niall Creegan, Mark Agnew, Cathal O’Tuille, Cathal McCarron, Kevin Lalor & Sam Lally

Mentors: Mick Kennedy / Ray McKenna.

In conclusion, and on behalf of the Hurling Section, I would like to congratulate the Ballyboden St Endas Senior Footballers on winning the Dublin Senior Football Championship. We wish them all the best in the Leinster Final next week. We all sincerely hope that they can manage to take the extra step that we unfortunately didn’t manage to do in 2007.

Boys Juvenile Section – Hurling & Football 2015

2015 was another fantastic year for Ballyboden St Endas in its juvenile boys ranks. Our numbers continue to grow with in excess of 600 boys registered with the club (from u9 to u16 we are fielding in excess of 70 teams, in addition to our 3 academies at St Endas Park, PUM and Ballycullen) The tremendous efforts made by all our volunteer coaches, mentors and parents are an essential contribution to the success of the juvenile teams alongside the expert direction of our coaching executive, under the Directors of Coaching Brian O’Regan and Paul McLoughlin.

Giiven the recent success of our Senior Footballers there is the potential for an unexpected increase in juvenile membership in 2016 which needs to be monitored.

The Boys Juvenile Committee would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank all those who have contributed by assisting with teams over the course of the season.  We would particularly like to acknowledge those outgoing mentors many of whom have been involved with teams from nursery right through to U16.  The Juvenile Section also wish to acknowledge the outstanding facilities that are available to the players and which continue to be of huge benefit to the development and improvement of their skills, including the all weather pitch and the skills walls.  The work of the Club Executive (and in particular the assistance of Seamie O’Neill in his capacity as Juvenile Liaison Officer), Noel Sheridan, the Maintenance Committee, and John Cummins on the hurling repair front is greatly appreciated.

There were three notable departures from the Juvenile Committee at the end of the 2015 season.  Mick Kennedy served as Committee Member for a number of years and was Juvenile Secretary in 2014 and 2015.  Brendan Ryan also stepped down from his role as CCC2 delegate and Tom McGrath as schools & Hurling liaison officer. Great appreciation and thanks is due to Mick, Brendan and Tom for the significant contribution they made to Ballyboden St Enda’s Juvenile Committee and we are glad to not that they all continue to be involved in coaching within the club.

On the playing front, well done to all the boys who competed in the various competitions from U9 to U16 inclusive. A special well done to our U14 Feile Hurling A team on winning the County Division 1 Feile and the All Ireland regional event in Thurles and also to our U16 Hurling and football teams for winning the U16A Championships in both codes, repeating the success of the 2014 U16 teams. This bodes well for the future and illustrates again that our coaching philosophy is the correct approach. In addition our U15D Footballers lost out narrowly in the D Championship final and our younger CCC2 teams fared very well in the leagues coming either in first place or runners up in hurling and football.

 Other notable highlights:

 2015 Cian Durkin Tournament - U15 Hurling

Page 46: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

The 9th Annual Cian Durkin Tournament was held in the club on the bank Holiday Monday, May 4th and in addition to the Boden u15 Team we had Mallow of Cork, Castlecomber of Kilkenny, Toomevara of Tipperary, Ballygunner of Waterford and Oulart the Ballagh of Wexford all competing for the coveted winners trophy in this much hotly contested national competition usually played in glorious sunshine and we extend our sincere thanks to both the Durkin and O Brien families.

U13 Football - Lee Strand Austin Stacks u13 Tournament

The U13 footballers continued the now annual tradition of the trip to Kerry to play the Austin Stacks Lee Strand Tournament. As always Ballyboden St. Enda’s were hosted by John Mitchels GFC.

We extend our thanks to both Austin Stacks and especially to John Mitchels.

 FEILE 2015

Ballyboden St Enda’s continued with its success at Feile, and this year it was the 2001 hurlers who led the way winning not only the Dublin Feile na nGael but going on to win the Regional Feile and where else? But on the hallowed turf of Semple Stadium. Before making ‘the trip to tipp’ the lads had to get out of Dublin the month earlier, and to do so they had to beat the 3 other top teams in Division 1 namely St Vincent’s, Lucan Sarsfields and Kilmacud Crokes (our hosts) just to top their group! And win they did - overcoming not only the excellent opposition but also the deluge that ensued. And boy did it rain in Silverpark! The div 2 to 6 finals had to be abandoned and re-fixed a week later such was the rainfall. The Regional Feile was going to be quite a challenge as Boden were drawn in group 2 against the Galway champions, Athenry and the Tipp Champions Borris-Ileigh: and after 2 outstanding performances the lads faced a serious quality team in Raparees of Wexford who had earlier that day despatched the Cork Champions, St Finbarrs and the Clare Champions Kilmaley in group 1. No room for error here. Character and courage were called for now and the boys delivered in bucket loads with a performance that simply blew the opposition away. The Final was now set for Semple Stadium against Douglas of Cork who had beaten O Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny and Mungret of Limerick in the other group and our lads did not disappoint proving victorious once again.Juvenile Roll of Honour 2015

Coaching & Games Development Executive Report 2015

Chairman – Terry O’Neill

Director of Coaching - Brian O’Regan

Games Promotions Officer - Paul McLoughlin

It was a busy 2015 on the Coaching & Games front. The year got off to a great start in January with Brian, Paul and two of the clubs young Forbairt coaches Fionn Maguire & Sinead Crowley making a presentation at the annual GAA National Coaching Conference in Croke Park. The presentation was on the recruitment and development of young coaches in the club and was very well received by those in attendance. The presentation can be found on http://learning.gaa.ie/ .

There was a lot of action on the Coach Education side as well. During the year there were two Foundation Award Courses (nearly 60 attendees), an Award One Child Course (24 attendees) and various other workshops including First Aid/Defibrillator course, Academy workshops, Fundamental workshops, a hurling/camogie workshop with Peter Casey and many more.

The “Coaching the Boden Way” games based approach to coaching was rolled out to more Go - Games teams in 2015 and continues to drive the standard of coaching upwards amongst our Juvenile, Camogie & Ladies Football teams. By this time next year it is hoped that the model will be in operation among all of our teams from U9-U12, across all the four codes.

The second year of the Forbairt Programme began in May and saw a new group of young coaches come together. The group are given the opportunity to take part in workshops and events held especially for them. Among the highlights for the group so far was when 14 of this group attended the National Youth Forum Day in Croke Park on the August bank holiday weekend. Also the group were given an excellent workshop on Communication with Brian, Paul & Paudie O’ Neill. 2016 will be a busy year for the group with many more workshops planned during the year.

Finally the Coaching & Games Development Plan will be issued at the start of 2016 which will outline all the major projects and events coming up during the year. The plan will be made available to all the sections and will be accessible on the Club website in January.

Many thanks to all the coaches who attended the various club workshops and county board workshops during the past year. A special thanks to all our club mentors for their continued commitment to player development and for all their efforts during 2015.

“What We Learn With Pleasure We Never Forget”

BALLYBODEN ST ENDAS ACADEMY 2015

2015 was another excellent year for Ballyboden St Endas Academy. The academy is where our 6 & 7 year olds are introduced to the club for the first time and are shown the basic movement skills & skills of the game, which are necessary to develop to the best of their ability. The academy combines Blitzes, Fun Days, Visits from Club & County Players, and of

Page 48: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

course practice every Saturday morning in Pairc Ui Mhurchu, St Endas Pk (Hermitage) & Knocklyon Pk (Ballycullen) and is attended by hundreds of boys & girls in the area.

This year provided many highlights with the main one being the actual amount of children out playing & having fun each Sat morning. The academy has never been as well attended and the number of teams progressing to U9 each year steadily grows. One of the most pleasing aspects is the number of girls involved in the academy and continuing into U9 Go Games each year. Big numbers of children bring big demands but the kids playing for Ballyboden are in the fortunate position to be involved with a club that puts ‘Participation for All’ as its core objective and insists on our coaches to follow this ethos.

Another main highpoint of the year was the continued involvement of our generous Academy Sponsor, TJ O’MAHONY, who under the stewardship of their Group Marking Co-ordinator Cathy Orr, held a brilliant sponsorship day in each venue, with every child receiving a home practice kit. Thanks again for the continued support.

Again we have been very lucky to have the continued use of the excellent Indoor Facilities in St Colmcilles N.S, so huge thanks must as usual to the schools for their assistance here.

Massive enthusiasm has been shown by parents, players and coaches alike throughout the year and especially the support shown of our Foundation Award Courses & our Academy Parents Night! One of the main reasons for the success of Ballybodens Academy is as a result of our Head Coordinators in each venue, who along with all the other volunteer coaches put in such hard work, and helps to make the Academy a Fun & Safe environment for our young kids to learn Gaelic Games!

BALLYBODEN ST ENDAS SUMMER CAMP 2015

Ballyboden’s 2014 Summer Camp will be remembered as being the best attended camp since the club has begun running Summer Camps at Pairc Ui Mhurchu. The Camps originate from the need to provide a sporting outlet for member’s children and the kids from the locality during the summer months of July & August. This year the combination of the “reasonably” fine weather and a really enjoyable few weeks led to the camp being so well attended.

The number of kids attending does of course bring with it its own challenges but these were dealt with admirably as a result of the brilliant young coaching staff and the support and understanding from all the parents. Every child that attended the camp received a Ballyboden Kit, Bag, & Wristband, as well as a safe environment to play, meet their friends, make new friends and improve their skills of Gaelic Games. The camp as usual provides the opportunity to give work to many of our top young coaches with over 70 coaches employed during the 5 weeks of Camp!!

Ballyboden Summer Camp continues to be not only the biggest and most successful Summer Camp in Dublin, but also the biggest in the country!

A huge thanks has to go to Eoin O’ Riordan of Leahy & Co. Accountants and Jack Nolan of Cruinn Diagnostics for their sponsorship towards the Summer Camp, and of course to all the parents and children who helped make the camp so successful.

Registrar’s Report.

Most of the work of the Registration Committee during the past year has been in implementing the new Smartclub system which came into effect on January 1st 2015.

Page 49: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

2015 was the first full year of the online Smartclub system and over 93% of membership subscriptions were paid using the online facility. This has meant that membership fees are credited to the club’s account almost instantly and all payments are fully traceable. The use of the Smartcard in the clubhouse linked to the system has also been a great success and has been enthusiastically embraced by members. As with all new systems, there have been a few small problems but most of these have been quickly solved when communicated to the registration committee.A sincere thank you to all members of the committee and to the section registrars for their hard work during the year. All membership queries should be emailed to [email protected] where they will be answered as quickly as possible. Thanks to the Executive and to Noel Sheridan for his efficiency in dealing with any phone queries relating to membership payments.

Liam Carter

Maintenance Executive (Chairman Vivian Ruddy) 2016

We now have new go-games pitches in Knocklyon Park, Ballycullen, with three pitches in operation with new nets and pins in place. Each goal post and net is labelled for ease of use for the mentors and players. Please put all nets in correct bins provided. We have a huge problem with plastic bottles being discarded on the all-weather pitches in S. Maria. It would be a great help if mentors and players could use the bins that are around the place. Many thanks to everyone who, do the rounds on a regular basis: Pat Walsh, Tomás Ó Reachtabhra, Fintan Walsh, Peter Wall, Frank Brooks and Martin Durkin.

We are always looking for new recruits and it only takes a short while but contributes greatly to the smooth running of the club. We have superb facilities in our club and we should all appreciate and respect them.

Security

John Manley continues to lead a group of volunteers who check our facilities on a nightly basis to ensure that they are secured, lights are off etc. This important task of securing our valuable facilities is vital work especially on winter’s nights in walking Sancta Maria or Ballycullen on behalf of the rest of us. We greatly appreciate the efforts of these unsung heroes.

Unfortunately, like many other groups, we have been the victims of break-ins to cars in car parks in Ballycullen, Páirc Uí Mhurchú and Sancta Maria. We are limited in the steps we can take to prevent such crime, but members of the Garda who are also club members have put a list of deterrent steps together, and this list should be circulated to all members and acted upon to the extent possible. These measures along with CCTV are only deterrents and club members and visitors should be advised not to leave valuables in cars at club facilities.

Pla yer Injury Scheme  The main concern for the Injury Co-Ordinators is that Player Injuries are notified on time to the Injury Co-Ordinators as a late claim will not be processed by Willis/GAA. Members need to note that the scheme is a player injury scheme and is not an insurance scheme and as such players with medical insurance need to submit a claim with their health insurer irrespective of whether or not treatment is covered under the policy. Any legitimate medical expenses not covered by their health insurer will be covered by the scheme up to a maximum of €4,500. The scheme is funded by club contributions that are matched by a contribution from Central Council.  The on-line system makes it relatively easy to register an injury but there is still the need for a medical declaration to be signed by the doctor that attended the injured person. I am pleased to say that 2015 saw a reduction in the number of Injury Claims from the Football Section when compared to previous years and initial analysis would point towards the strength and conditioning work undertaken at the start and during the season.

Page 51: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

I would ask that any person who sustains an injury at training or during a match contacts their respective injury co-ordinator irrespective of whether or not a claim may be lodged. It is easier to cancel a claim then to try and submit a late claim.

Conor Doolan.

Thanks to our various injury coordinators, Conor Doolan, Declan O’ Rourke, Eithne Mc Garry and Joseph Moran

SOCIAL ACTVITIES

Siúltóirí Buadáin 2015

2015 was another great year for us.  From the rolling hills of Tuscany where 30 members hiked in brilliant sunshine from one hilltop town to the next, sampled the local vino and regaled the locals with our songs...whether they wanted to hear them or not.  Our local trip in 2015 was to Connemara at the end of August where the weather Gods also favoured us. Basing ourselves in Clifden we climbed Diamond Hill in Connemara National Park on Friday, did 2 peaks in the 12 Bens on the Saturday (Benbaun Beag and Benbrack), and then a boat trip on the Sunday to explore the wonderful island of Inishboffin. The long weekend was finished off with a walk on the tidal Omey Island on Monday with some of our group enjoying 18 holes of golf on the beautiful Connemara golf links. Needless to say we also enjoyed the ceol agus craic in Clifden including a beautiful meal in the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel.

Every Saturday morning in 2015 saw a large group heading for the hills of Dublin or Wicklow or walking along our beautiful coastline with a smaller group often heading off for a shorter

walk.  A lovely boat trip organised by John Connolly around Howth Harbour was a wonderful highlight during the summer and in November eight brave members completed the Moonlight Challenge, an eight hour hike in the Wicklow hills with the aid of head torches to raise funds for the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team.  Sandra Free organised a fund raising BBQ for Crumlin Childrens’ Hospital which raised badly needed funds for a great cause.   A trip to Sliabh Gullion in Northern Ireland and another to the Lough Boora Discovery Park in Offaly were other highlights of the year.  Some members of our group climbed Carrantohill, another group went to walk another stretch of the Camino in Northern Spain while other members walked in La Gomera and Tenerife.  To finish off our wonderful year we had a fun night at our Christmas party in the Clubhouse where we proved our fitness on the dance floor.  A big thank you to our Chairman, Brendan Moran, who joined us for our celebrations, and to Noel Sheridan, Mick Farrell and his bar staff for helping to make this a very enjoyable night for all. A big thanks also goes to Siobhan Monaghan and her staff in Sweet Cicily who provided us with lovely food on the night. Our ever increasing band of walkers now look forward to another exciting year in 2016 with a trip to the Beara peninsula planned for May and 43 members already booked for our trip to Austria in September.

Within our group we are lucky to have our very own photographer, Eamonn O’Sullivan, who captures for us wonderful stories in pictures of our footfall through our beautiful countryside. We have singers and poets who entertain us and most of all we have an amazing group of Ballyboden members, who just love to trek the tracks and trails of hills near and far, on home soil and abroad.

Active Retired Association.

We had a very successful 2015.

There were 5 day trips and a theatre outing to “She Stoops to Conquer. Day trips included a bus tour of the Boyne Valley and Patrick Kavanagh country, train trips to the Galway Trade Show and Cork, Bus trips to Newcastle Co. Down and Summerhill, Co. Meath.

We enjoyed all the various bus trips to support our Senior Football team as they worked their way to Croke Park.

We put on a music event on the second Sunday of each month in Ballyroan Community Centre from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm. This is an open music/speaking/ sometimes dancing affair where everyone can do his/ her piece under the capable baton of Noel Callan. We also have very successful concerts on the third Monday of each month in the Club lounge with Joe Johnston and friends.

Thanks to the hard working committee, including the Chairman Fintan Walsh, Secretary Kay Murray and Treasurer Jim Fogarty.

Pool Room.

The teams continue to do well in the various pool leagues, with the regular players testing each other nightly. The committee made some improvements during the year to ensure improved table facilities for all players. Overall, the facility is well used and generates extra activity in the clubhouse. Thanks to Jack, Paul and the committee.

Bingo

Bingo, what a success! Something that started as a trial has turned into a weekly social occasion in the club. Tuesday nights are normally quite in the club bar but now we have 55-65 members/non-members using the facility and having a wonderful time. We get the odd comment from other members as to how well it is going. The bingo has helped to raise the weekly takings in the bar area and has become a very successful fundraiser. All funds are needed to keep the teams on the road. The continued success of the bingo has been down to the wonderful support from our bingo followers who on a weekly basis turn up rain, hail, or snow. The bingo has created social interaction amongst a lot of players and many friendships have developed from the continued support. Weekly, we have prizes for lines and panels and a running jackpot pool. Because the jackpot prize money increases each week it encourages bingo players to continue to come and when won creates great excitement. The weekly raffle has proven to be a great success and at times creates more excitement then a win in the bingo. The Halloween night and other themed nights i.e. Christmas and Easter have also been wonderful and fully appreciated by all our bingo followers. We wish to thank all our sponsors who contributed on these themed nights. Thanks to Conor, Annette, Teresa, Linda, Lilian, Fiona and Iomair and all the committee for their continued commitment. The success of the bingo has been down to the commitment of the team who have been there from year 1, and our bingo followers who continue to support us.

Thanks to you all. New members welcome please tell your friends.

T V Monitor in the Club reception.

Two years ago this was installed and has proven to be a great source of information for those members passing through reception to go to the Club bar or hall or office. This does not happen automatically. I want to take this opportunity to thank Deirdre O’ Donovan for her continued commitment in updating the monitor on a weekly basis and for her commitment to ensure that time is put aside from her busy schedule to update it.

Set Dancing and Ceile 2015

Boden Theatre Group Overview 2015.

Page 54: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

2015 was another very busy and successful year for the Boden Theatre Group. Brian Friel's famous play "Dancing at Lughnasa" was the first production of the year and it was a resounding success. The play told the story of the loves and losses of the five Mundy sisters from Ballybeg in Donegal. It was performed over 4 nights in March to packed audiences.

The group were then invited to perform perform a duo of One Act Plays for the Bealtaine Festival in Ballyroan Library in June 2015. They performed two comedy one act plays called "The Pawnshop" and "Thirst", directed by Joe Kearney and John Joe O'Sullivan respectively. There was also a guest appearance by the one and only Declan O'Brien who recited some of his hilarious monologues to a delighted audience. During the year Declan recorded a selection of his most famous songs and monologues in the club hall and then released release a CD of his work called "Decalogues Too".

The final production of the year was an American play called "My Three Angels", written by a husband and wife playwright team called Sam and Bella Spewack. "My Three Angels" is a comedy set in tropical French Guiana on Christmas Eve in 1910. It told the story of the Ducotel family, their evil-minded cousin, cold-hearted nephew and three convicts who conspired to assist the family and became the unlikely heroes of the story. It was a departure from the plays the group have done over the past few years but we felt it was time to challenge ourselves and bring something different to our loyal audiences. It was very well received over the 4 nights and we must sincerely thank Joe Kearney who directed both "My Three Angels" and "Dancing at Lughnasa" this year.

"My Three Angels" was the inaugural production on the new stage, which was purchased by the club from the funds raised by the drama group over the past 10 years. It will be a fantastic asset to both The Boden Theatre Group and the club in the years to come. The group would like to thank the club executive and management for their continued support this year in providing rehearsal and performance space for us. We also want to thank all the people who work behind the stage that aren't necessarily seen. It really is a team effort to produce a show and those who work away quietly in the background are just as important as the actors on stage. Most importantly, we would like to thank our loyal audiences who come to see us year after year. Without an audience there is no show so we are just so lucky to have big audiences for each play, which in turn drives us to give the best performances possible.

2015 ended with planning and pre-production for our next play which will form part of the club’s Centenary Programme to mark the 1916 Rising. We will be performing “A Terrible Beauty Is Born” from Thursday 14th April to Saturday 16th April 2016.Carol Fitzmaurice.

Lotto 2015

Page 55: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

2015 was another successful year for our Club Lotto, and we would like to thank all our supporters. We would like to also thank Joe Mc Call from Byrne and Mc Call Accountants and Tax advisors for their sponsorship.

This year we had a number of Jackpot winners, John Burns, Tom Mullen, David Bobbett and Stephen Hiney, and a subscriber draw for 5k which was won by John Bollard. The next subscribers draw will take place in April. Sales of weekly envelopes have increased and have proved to be very popular. Our Lotto is an integral part of the Club Finances and we really need every member to support it.

Saturday morning coffee mornings

Club members Jackie Boyd-Lyons, Peter Lyons, Kathleen and Liam Cannon, and Mary O'Brien head up the service every Saturday and the quality is first class, as it is now a regular event for the patrons. This also contributes to club funds and a pointer to the future in catering for the members. This is an important vehicle to bring parents and siblings of Academy children into the club, to offer them a welcome and, hopefully, to encourage them to contribute themselves.

CEOLTÓIRÍ BUADÁIN agus an SEISIÚIN SA CHLUB

What a year it’s been since we started our monthly Music Sessions in the Club in Feb. 2015 ! We have had togha an cheoil agus craic at each and every one of them. Yes, unfortunately Monday nights do not suit everyone, but the audience that comes along to our sessions is a very special group of people. They have a wonderful respect for each and every singer and musician – some of whom are quite nervous - perhaps performing publicly for the very first time and it is wonderful to witness the welcome and attention they receive in the Clubhouse.

Our last Session on 21 March opened with approx. 12 instrumentalists playing a medley of tunes from 9.30 until 10 p.m. (Some of these musicians have taken to playing / reading music only in the past two years!) - afterwards the soloists took to the stage singing, reciting poetry, playing fiddles, flutes, guitars, accordions, and then we have the best of comedy artists as well ! One of the highlights of the night was the poem specially composed by the Boden Bard -recording the successive victories of our fantastic All Ireland champions, on their way to Croker.

Oh, I forgot to mention our dancers they too were brilliant, taking to the floor for Ballaí Luimní and one solo sean nós dancer travelled all the way from Roscommon to dance for us – what

COMMUNICATION REPORT

Page 58: Proposed by: Brendan Moran - Gaelic Footbal final 2016 report.docx  · Web viewTrish was a mentor in every sense of the word, ... The year began with our section organising the collection

Each January, the Ballyboden St Enda’s communication team gather to look back at the previous year, comment on the success, what can be improved and to look ahead to the forthcoming year. This year was no different – looking back, it was a very busy year for the communications team due to the success within the club. Within the communications team there are representatives from each section in the club. Our role as a committee include updating our website, www.bodengaa.ie , updating, editing and producing our weekly newsletter, updating our twitter & facebook pages which have both increased immensely in followers.

2016 is the first year we produced the club calendar, the calendar consists of photographs from our own photographers within the club and is a great way of involving Ballyboden St Enda’s members. We also continue to produce our Boden News Magazine which has become a favourite for members throughout the years.

The committee also organises publicity of events within the club & liaises with local and national media on how to promote Ballyboden St Endas in the best way possible.

The success of the Senior Footballers in the 2015/2016 season added great excitement within the club , this resulted in the communications committee giving the most up to date news & photographs to both local , national TV , Radio & Print & online. Prior to the All Ireland Club Final, the communications committee organised the press night with the Senior players and media. The team organised publicity for the Senior Football fundraiser, helped coordinate the Up for the Match event & organised all publicity for the match final including programmes , AIB advert , interviews on TV on match day and the best of luck videos from former members, high profile personalities and club teams for the players. The All Ireland Club Final was a great way for the team to all work together and show exactly how much work the team takes on.

This is the third year of the Ballyboden St Enda’s Newsletter. With over 2,700 subscribers from across the world –the newsletter is getting bigger and better every year. Our weekly newsletter consists of match reports, photos & local news from all sections within the club to highlight and inform club members & families across the community.

If you would like updates on matches or events within Ballyboden St Enda’s don’t hesitate contacting us via twitter @bodengaa , on Facebook by searching Boden Gaa, by email – [email protected].

I would like to thank all the teams and sections within the club throughout the year. As one of the biggest clubs in Ireland, it is very difficult to highlight every section within in the club on a daily basis but I think with the team we have in our communications section - we deliver.

I wish to thank all the communications team for all the work throughout the year – as a club we are very lucky at how many volunteers we have. Club PRO – Sinéad Ryan , Website & Senior Football – Neil Buckingham , Newsletter – Cathy Murray , Hurling – Eamon Treacy , Ladies Football – Cathal O’ Toole & Pat Conway , Camogie – Anne Griffin & Gerry White, Ronan Feely, Juvenile Section – Cliona Mellett , Social Media – Alan Kinsella & Social section – Gerry Mahon & our club chairman Brendan Moran. I would also like to thank Carol Ryan who undertook the PRO role for the All Ireland Club Final.

Let's hope the 2016/2017 season is as successful as this year.Sinead Ryan

Strictly the SequelLast February the annual club signature fundraiser was held in City West hotel. Over 1200 members and friends supported the evening and an excellent night was had by all. 32 dancers strut their stuff to great acclaim and certainly did themselves and the club proud. This is a key revenue generator for the club and similar to 2014 it was a tremendous success. Title sponsor on the night was Weldon Jewellers and out guest judges were Gemma Fay, Stephen Hiney and Adrian Kennedy.Well done to all our dancers and many thanks to everybody who supported and helped organise the evening.

Gala Evening 2015Over 300 people packed out the ballroom in the Red Cow Hotel for this year’s Gala and medal Presentation. The array of silverware was spectacular on the night and the evening proceedings were admirably handled by our very own Declan O’Brien. The Hothouse big band provided the entertainment on the night people danced to the early hours of the morning, Apart from the official medal presentation and chairman’s special award was presented to John O’Neill by our chairman Brendan Moran

Special Mass for Eoin Culligan and his pals. This year was not without its disappointments and tragedies. The club marked the tragic events that took place in Berkely last June by celebrating mass in the club. This was a beautiful tribute to the guys and girls in Berkely and was supported by their close and loving friend from Mary’s, Boden and College. The mass was streamed live for all our members and friends who were away at the time.

Na Mairbh 2015
