3 Red pimple
4 Purulent pimple
5 Postinflammatory redness/acne scar
What is happening in the pore?
Sebum secretion is increased by the effect of sex hormones or by other factors. The increased sebum starts to accumulate in a pore. Microcomedo that cannot be seen from the outside is present around a visible pimple.
This is a condition where sebum cannot leave through the pore because of clogging. You can feel a textured surface when you touch a whitehead/blackhead pimple. A whitehead/black-head pimple looks slightly elevated.
Cutibacterium acnes, which loves eating sebum, proliferates in the pore.Cutibacterium acnes attracts an inflammatory substance which causes inflammation. The color of the pimple is changed to red by inflammation.
If inflammation is further aggravated, the wall of the expanded pore gets ruptured. Inflammation spreads to the surrounding tissue and causes yellow pus.
After inflammation subsides, redness may remain in some cases. This redness usually disappears over time.On the other hand, acne scars with bumps and dips will less frequently resolve once they form.
Pimples develop not only on the face but also on the chest and back. If you have any annoying pimples, do not hesitate to consult your doctor.
