The Dhler nutrient media for non-alcoholic beverages allow the user

to detect harmful micro-organisms in the entire beverage production

    process chain reliably and quickly.

The cultures work extremely selectively. Only the bacteria responsible

for the spoiling find the ideal conditions to grow quickly. Almost all

nutrient media are ready for use, and additional mixing or sterilisation

    is not necessary.

    TransFastSystem an evaluation

    within seconds

With TransFast, Dhler has succeeded in developing a completely new

microbiological detection method in terms of how fast results are

    achieved.

While classic media are poured into Petri dishes as agar, the carrier

system in TransFastis a transparent gel. The beverage sample, which

is usually enriched in advance, is placed with the gel into a transparent

tube and incubated. Depending on the bacterial concentration, first

results can be seen after just 24 hours.

Another innovation is an incubator with interior lighting. The direct

illumination of the transparent samples allows any possible

contamination to be assessed in a fraction of a second. Each beverage-

spoiling micro-organism, whether it be bacteria, yeast or mould, has a

    unique macroscopic appearance.

There is no need for the time-consuming use of Petri dishes!

Just turn on the light and you will be able to assess the overall condition

    of the samples immediately.

    NBB

Under the NBBbrand, we offer nutrient media for the microbiological

detection of beer-spoiling micro-organisms in breweries, which are

characterised by being easy and quick to use and by their excellent

    selectivity.

The microbiological complexity of beer demands high standards of an

extremely sensitive culture for the detection of beer-spoiling bacteria.

The result is a very selective and fast-working medium: NBB. Depending

on the sample types in the brewery, NBB-Agar (NBB-A), NBB-

    Broth (NBB-B), NBB-Concentrate (NBB-C) and NBB-B enrichment

    media (NBB

-B-AM) are used. This means that the entire spectrum ofsamples which are taken in a brewery including turbid and yeast-

containing beers are covered. The precise ratio of special growth

materials and inhibitors allows the development of an ideal medium

with outstanding selective properties for harmful bacteria in beer.

Brewers yeast and harmless secondary flora are largely inhibited. NBB

is also suited for detecting pests in the wine industry.

    NBB-BROTH (NBB-B) (pH 5.8 +/- 0.1)

Analysis of yeast samples and cloudy, yeast-containing beer samples

    APPLICATION

    - as nutrient medium for membrane filters

    - pre-enrichment of beer samples, even for methods in

    molecular biology (VIT, PCR)

    BENEFITS

    - broth works selectively, specifically for beer

    - reliable results after just 3 days

    - fast macroscopic evaluation using incorporated

    indicator colour- easy to use

    - also available in pre-filled test tubes for immediate use

    NBB-AGAR (NBB-A) (pH 5.8 +/- 0.1)

    Analysis of fi ltered beers

    APPLICATION

    - as nutrient medium for membrane filters

    - in the pour plate method

    - swabs from a wide range of samples from the brewery

    (beer samples, water samples)

    BENEFITS

    - agar works selectively, specifically for beer- reliable results after just 5 days

    - fast evaluation using incorporated indicator colour

    - very good quantitative and qualitative evaluation of results

    - easy to use

Alternative to the ready-to use products NNB is also available as a

powder. The essential growth materials, the inhibitors and the indicatorcolour are incorporated.

For the making of the agar or the broth, own bier may be used to obtain

    a highly specific medium.

    NBB-CONCENTRATE (NBB-C)

    (pH 6.4 +/- 0.1)

Analysis of cloudy and yeast-containing beer

    samples and yeast samples

    APPLICATION

    - as additive in the shelf life test samples

    - pre-enrichment of beer samples, even for methods in

    molecular biology (VIT, PCR)

    BENEFITS

    - adjustable selectivity of the culture using different

concentrations and your own beer- records the full spectrum of beer-spoiling micro-organisms,

from obligate to indicator bacteria, depending on the

    concentration used

    - reliable results after just 5 days

    NBB-POWDER (NBB-P)

For the preparation of NBB-Agarand Broth with own beer

    APPLICATION

    - use is analogous to NBB-B when the product is dissolved

in demineralised water and decarbonated beer

    - in addition with agar-agar use is analogous to NBB-A when

dissolved in demineralised water and decarbonated beer

    BENEFITS

    - adaptation of the proven NBBproperties to the selectivity

    of your beers

    - small pack size makes it especially suitable for use withminimal cooling options

    BAT-Agar, BAT-Broth and

    Guaiacol detection kit

Alicyclobacillus can damage beverages by the formation of an off-flavour

(guaiacol, 2,6-dibromphenol, 2,6 dichlorophenol), although only

    A. acidoterrestris, A. acidiphilus and A. herbarius have shown

the potential for forming off-flavours up to now. The detection of

Alicyclobacillus alone therefore does not provide conclusive information

on the extent or risk posed of damaging a beverage. Instead, the risk

potential for the formation of off-flavours must be verified using the

Guaiacol detection kit, an enzyme test.

    Nutrient Agar, LMC-Concentrate

    in accordance with DEV

The requirements of the administrative bodies expect from beverage

producers that process water meets the quality criterion of drinking

water. This applies both for water processed in the product and for

water used for rinsing and cleaning.

Our nutrient agar in accordance with DEV allows the user to detect the

total amount of colonies in water and in ready-to-drink beverages.

With the LMC-concentrate, we are offering a product for the fast and

uncomplicated detection of E.coliand coliform bacteria.

    AVM Aspetic Validation Medium

Aseptic filling lines must be tested for functionality after installation. It is

recommended to use a standardised nutrient solution (AVM) which is

filled aseptically under production conditions, just like a finished

product. The filled bottles are incubated for 5 days and assessed visually

    checking the turbidity from contaminations.

In addition, the AVMoffers the option of checking the performance of

the equipment components as a challenge test by selective inoculation

    with a germ suspension.

    NBB-B Enrichment Medium

The risk of secondary contamination by beverage-spoiling micro-

organisms is highest in the filling and packaging area. It is therefore

even more important to know the current hygiene status of the plant at

all times. As part of an analysis of weak spots, critical areas in filling

lines are defined and regularly sampled using streak swabs. The

incorporated indicator colour in NBB-B-AM makes a positive result

turn from red to yellow. If the percentage of positive samples remains

above a safety threshold of 20% for a longer period, this indicates

persistent biofilms in which harmful organisms and other problematic

bacteria will sooner or later be able to implant and adapt. A thoroughgeneral cleaning must be undertaken immediately or the risk of

secondary infections grows due to the generation of aerosols.
