Who would be the audience for your media

product?

15-30 years – teenagers and young adults. Male and female. White Secondary and higher education, the majority of my audience

would be students with a smaller annual and disposable income. Most students have a part time job. Post graduates with higher disposable income. C1C2E Students working and lower middle class. Smaller annual income. Potential for higher income in the future. Spotify, iTunes and radio etc.

Generally students are aspirers as they seek status, they want to succeed and search for materialistic goods. They're orientated to image and appearance, persona and fashion. Attractive packaging is important typically younger people, clerical and sales jobs.

However, explorers seek discovery, individualism is woven through indie rock music. They value being different and adventure; they're willing to try new brands for fast effect. Generally younger people/students.

Strugglers often are seeking escape from alienation and disorientated lifestyles. Often students; buy alcohol, junk food, and lottery tickets. D and E demographics.

Reformers seek enlightenment, freedom for personal growth . Social awareness and independent judgement. Hass attended higher education and selects products for quality.

Evaluation

The majority of the audience that listen to indie/rock music were aged 18-24, then under 18’s. All the people I asked listen to rock music. This backs my decision to aim my magazine at the age group 15-30 as it is within the margin shown from my survey.

Evaluation

The benefits of doing a focus group:They can tell you if your product is successful. They give varied criticism to help you improve your product. They can give greater insight into why a certain aspect of your

product works or doesn’t work.Takes advantage of the fact that people naturally interact and

are influenced by others.Generally requires less preparation and is comparatively easy

to conduct.Researcher can interact with group to help with the discussion. Results are easy to understand and more accessible to lay

audiences or decision-makers than complex statistical analyses of survey data

Focus Group

How did you attract/ address your audience?

Colours: Blues, reds.Red exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy.

Which attracts females to the magazine as they may want to attract their masculine side and attracts males as they wish to increase their masculinity. Light red represents joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity, and love.

Blue is also a masculine colour it connotes joy and tranquillity; audiences often listen to music for escape and to have a calming effect which is what attracts them to the colour blues.

These colours contrast with each other and stand out, the red draws attention to the magazine and informs people that there is an aspect of rock yet the blue gives hints to the indie side of it.

Features to attract the audience

The articles on the front cover feature the type of artists that would attract my target audience.

The cover artist represents the style and fashion of the audience as stereotypically teenagers often dye their hair and dress in a certain way.

The artist is wearing a tartan coat and a printed shirt to show she is up to date with the fashion. She is smiling which makes her more approachable and by looking down she appears more humble and ‘normal’.

The masthead ARENA it reflects the aspect of music gigs and concerts, the ideal venue for an artist to perform is an arena such as the O2 therefore my magazine is the ideal place to promote their music.

The artist on the contents page reflects the rock aspect of the magazine and the artist on the cover and double page spread represents the indie part.

The contents artist has piercings and tattoos which attract the audience as the artist is expressing himself not just with music but his appearance. People who listen to rock/indie rock often have tattoos and piercings; they are attracted to the audience as the artist reflects their feelings through the expression of music and body art.

I have used natural lighting in all images to make the artists appear more natural and less artificial. By doing this the artists are more relatable for the audiences.

By using female artist on the front cover and a male artist on the contents page I have provided an ideal for both males and females.

The double page spread has the red colour scheme to make it stand out. This makes the audience want to read the magazine as the pull quotes engage the reader by giving them a short taste of the article.
