Transportation

Transportation to and from the Village Park Inn, Calgary is available by taxi, limousine (pre-booking required), or car rental. At the time this information package was put together the taxi fare is approximately $50 per car from the airport to the Hotel. All major car rental agencies are available at the airport. The Hotel does not offer shuttle service.

Tournament Hotel

The Best Western Village Park Inn (“Hotel”) is the official tournament hotel. It is located at 1804 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary. The tournament will be held at the University of Calgary in the MacEwan Hall Ballroom. The Hotel is located in the Calgary’s central NW area and is within easy walking distance to the University. There are a number of restaurants within the area. The special tournament rate is a very affordable $149.00. Check-in time is 3:00 pm. Every effort is made to accommodate guests arriving before the check-in time, however rooms may not be immediately available. Check out time is 11:00 am. Rooms have been blocked and reserved until Tuesday April 16, 2019. Thereafter, all remaining rooms will be released for general sale at prevailing rack rates. Tournament Venue All training clinics and tournament competition will be held at: The University of Calgary – Gold Gym and MacEwan Hall Ballroom, 2500 University Dr. NW, Calgary, Alberta A registration desk will be set up adjacent to the Draw Master Command Centre. All provincial directors and coaches are asked to check in, verify and confirm the list of their province’s competitors first thing on the morning of the competition.

Detailed Schedule

Board of Directors’ Meeting - Friday May 17, 2019 The national board of directors’ meeting will be held in the Village Park Inn Hotel Boardroom 7:30 am to 10:00 am – a continental breakfast will be provided.

Dan Examination - Friday May 17, 2019 The dan examination will be 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Gold Gym, UofC. The examination will be administered by Okazaki Sensei and Technical Committee Members. Registration procedures are as follows: Two copies of the registration form must be submitted in type by May 10, 2019, with two passport photographs along with the dan examination (US cash) and registration fee (US Money Order made payable to ISKF) as per the international fee schedule (both exam and registration). The form must also be signed in the permission section by the Provincial Chief Instructor. Please include a copy of your rank record.

Judges’ Seminar and Examinations (written and practical) – Friday May 17,

2019 The ISKF International Judge Examination is in two parts – written exam and practical exam. Pre-requisites for these exams are 22 years of age, and a minimum of second dan. The registration form must be completed by the registration deadline. The judges’ registration fee is included in the examination fee. The cost: $80.00 (judges clinic and judges exam) - $20.00 (judges clinic only – all qualified judges are expected to attend) Judges’ seminar: Friday, May 17 2019, Gold Gym, University of Calgary, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Judges’ practical and written exam: Friday, May 17 2019, Gold Gym, University 12:30 pm. Examinees must have their own whistle and be dressed in their gi.

Everyone is strongly encouraged to participate in these important and valuable seminars. This is the first year we are offering a roster of National Training Seminars and our goal is to broaden the involvement of all ISKF Canada karate-ka regardless of age, rank. An Instructors Class – Subject # 15 will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday afternoon in the Gold Gym. There is no fee for participation in this class if 2 or 3 other classes are attended. There is however the standard fee of $20.00 (US - cash) if a signature for instructor credit is required.

38th ISKF Canada Championship Tournament - Saturday, May 18 2019

Location: MacEwan Hall Ballroom – University of Calgary: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The eliminations and finals for youth and intermediate kyu ranks, eliminations and finals for adult brown belt, Dojo Tournament and Senior Kata & Kumite will be held here. Fee for individual youth and adult (one or more) events are $45.00 per contestant. Team events (kata and kumite) are all $60.00 per team. Each province will be permitted to submit 2 three, person adult black belt teams. This is so for kata and kumite and applies to both men and women.

**NEW** Kyu Shobu Ippon Kumite Tournament We are excited to continue a new event in the ISKF Canada National tournament arena. Every ISKF member in the green, purple and brown belt (6th kyu to 1st kyu) category is invited and encouraged to participate. We will have divisions by age and rank. This is a ‘demonstration event’ that we are adopting. It is a completely voluntary event but all contestants wishing to participate must have first performed their regular ippon kumite competition in the spirit of budo!

Dojo Tournament We are pleased to continue the Dojo Tournament as we did last year. Each ISKF Dojo is permitted to send up to 2 teams consisting of 3 competitors, brown and black belts, between 18 and 45 years. The team kata (no eliminations, straight to finals) may be a mix of male and female but team kumite will be separated between male and female. We hope that the Dojo competition will allow those who are not competing in the Provincial Teams to experience the excitement and thrill of team competition. Those black belts competing in the Dojo competition may also compete individually in the adult individual competition on Sunday but not on the Provincial Teams.

Waiver/Release Agreement for Contestants/Participants All participants must complete.

"Event" means the May 16-19, 2019, 38th ISKF Canada Championship Tournament

The undersigned is aware that there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and receiving instruction at the Event. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Event, I hereby release and waive any claims against International Shotokan Karate Federation of Alberta, International Shotokan Karate Federation of Canada, and International Shotokan Karate Federation and any and all clubs, schools, instructors, members, judges, officials, officers, directors and representatives relating thereto (collectively the "Releases") for any injury or damage which I may suffer as a result of participating and/or receiving instruction at the Event including travel to and from the Event. I understand and agree that this Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions, those causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether now known or unknown and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation at the Event. This Release shall be binding upon me, my heirs, successors, administrators, assigns and legal representatives. I assume full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage, which I may suffer while participating in the Event.
