Thank you Past President Lanney Nelson
What a great time we all had in Huron at the convention. It is just so much fun to meet up with
friends that I worked with and meet new friends that have been hired since I retired. The new
President of RASCOE is Bonnie Nickelson. She will do a great job and really likes the
organization. I wish her the very best. I won a nice prize at the convention too. And a great
time was had by all at the birthday party on Thursday night. Great food. So now I just look
forward to next year. Lanney Nelson
WELCOME new President BONNIE NICKELSON
Was great to see so many of you in Huron at the SDASCOE Convention. My Thanks to Lanney for his
service to RASCOE as our President. I hope I will be able to fill his shoes. (I do have big
feet). Hopefully I can make it to most of the RASCOE luncheons. I seem to be so busy in retirement, I
wonder how I ever had time to go to work before. Finally made it to the river fishing and camping, so my
husband is out of the doghouse now. Maybe I'll see you at the SDASCOE Fish N Fun June 24-26.
WELCOME new Vice President BECKY ZIRPEL
I believe many if not all of you know me, but for the few that might not let me introduce or reintroduce
myself. I have recently retired (April 30, 2016) and was a little worried about being bored (that is a joke)
so I said yes to VP of RASCOE for South Dakota. I had been active in the employee association since the
day Curtis Fox hired me and for all but 1 or 2 years I served the employees of SDASCOE and for several
years I served the NWA along with serving as a chair for NASCOE.
After 30 plus years of working for ASCS/CFSA/FSA I decided it was time to retire and move on to have
other fun in my life. I was a PT in Mitchell for 9 plus years then moved on to the COT program in which
I was hired as CED in Buffalo for 9 long months until I was hired as the CED for Gregory County. I am
looking forward to retirement and deciding what will be the next chapter of our lives.
Right now Jim (my husband) and I are busy packing and getting ready for a move. We were very pleased
to have an offer on our home in Burke 3 days after it was advertised and look forward to closing on it and
moving to our new home in Brandon, SD in the first part of June. Some say why Brandon? Well we both
have family in the Sioux Falls area and that is where we found a place that we both liked. New address
will be 206 S Heritage Rd. We look forward to settling in and spending time with longtime friends and
with family. I was from the Viborg area and Jim was the Mitchell area.
I look forward to Co-chairing the National Convention to be held in Sioux Falls in 2018 (if we get the
bid). I also look forward to being active in RASCOE and serving as your Vice President for SD. Once we
get moved I hope to see some of you at our RASCOE luncheons.

News from Members…..I won’t be able to make the convention this year as we will be moving to Mitchell
during April. Nadine Beatch, Davison-Hanson Co
Karla Bird, Clay Co, has Alzheimer’s disease and had a stroke June 2015, which has left her in a wheel chair unable to use her right side. She is residing at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Her spirit seems to be pretty good. Her sister, Beverly Butler. I am helping to host a shower for my niece the Saturday morning of convention, so will not able to attend the convention. Linda Wagner, Minnehaha Co Esther Grant, Miner Co, is in the nursing home with a broken hip. (message from Esther’s sister) Things are pretty quiet around there since the bond for the new school was approved. I have been doing really well and attending a few basketball games of two of the grandsons play for Chester and they made it to the state B tournament in Aberdeen so will be going to that this weekend. We have sure had a nice winter here with very little snow and above normal temps. I hope to see you in Huron for the convention in April. Marvin Mannie, Spink Co Retired and the days and weeks go by quickly. Delores Cleveland, Lincoln Co I just had eye surgery and it seems a slow healing process or maybe my patience is running out, ha. Hoping for improvement. Irene Cavanaugh, Day Co. Having a beautiful spring her, ½ done calving heifers, and then the cows will start. Have a great year! Geraldine Storm, Perkins Co Enclosed find money and raffle tickets. I think I won it several years ago, I was and still am so excited about that. As of May 3, 2016, I will have been retired 30 years, almost as long as I worked (38 years). The time has gone fast as I approach my “85 years young”, birthday on April 18! I am doing quite well, coping with the arthritis and just had my first cataract surgery on March 15. WOW, I don’t even have to wear glasses, only reading glasses. I play scrabble this afternoon; water exercise tomorrow; and a movie sponsored by “Learning in Retirement” on Wednesday. I am relearning “canasta” and attend “Creative Writing” (my favorite). So I keep as busy as I want, am never bored and grateful for each day. Avis Elenz, Sanborn Co Since I have eye problem. I am unable to drive and cannot get to meetings. Am Lucky I have a cousin who will drive me when I have to go places. Really enjoy Spearfish, has many areas to walk. Max Wolf, Lyman Co

ARE YOU A SDASCOE ASSOCIATE MEMBER?
RASCOE help SDASCOE win the Dillard’s competition drive. Dillard Financial will give the state with
the most increase in membership for the 2015 – 2016 dues year a $1000. The contest will continue each
year so if they join for next year (since it is so late this year) it would help for the 2016 – 2017 dues year.
Membership is $30 per year --- so if they are not associates yet for this year (ends June 30th) and want to
be it would be $30. If they want to be for just next dues year (starts July 1st) it would be $30. If they
want to be members for both years --- then $60.
MAKE SURE IF ANYONE SENDS IN ASSOCIATE DUES THEY MARK WHAT YEAR THEY
WANT ME TO USE IT FOR.
RASCOES that are already members for the new 2016 – 2017 dues year are:
Dorene Becker Cathy Denison Jim Iverson Neva Morrison
