Árboles, alternas o raramente opuestas,simples, imparipinnadas o palmadocompuestos. La hojas tienen glándulas queexpelen aceites aromáticos (cítricos), hojascon puntos traslúcidos, generalmente conespinas en el tronco y las ramas, flores uni obisexuales. Fruto baya, samara oesquizocarpos.

.Árboles, hojas simples, alternas ,enterascoriáceas,pinnatinervadas; usualmente sinestípulas. Pecíolo con un pulvinulo en formade botella. Látex blanco lechoso con olorcaracterístico. Las flores generalmente seencuentran en las ramas, y son polinizadaspor los murciélagos. Muchas especies tienenfrutos comestibles. La semilla es grande ybrillosa con una cicatriz. Crece en climastropical y subtropical.
