How To Be Like

By Lucy

Seeing as I have managed to show you how to be all of the Lynches and Ellington, I thought, why not show you how to be the boy’s girl-friends! First up is Savannah Latimer, Riker’s girl! WHAT TO WEAR? Vanni’s style can often be seen as a good counterpart to her boyfriend Riker’s, so here is how to get that look:

Skinny jeans Baggy t-shirts Black boots Large rimmed hats

Page 5: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Virgo (Stormie Lynch): At this time in your life, life is giving you extra power and could cause suc-cess in relationships. Now is a favorable term for planning for the future. You will have major success this month.

Leo (Rydel Lynch): There may be tensions in your life that may need your help to re-solve. Though you

might experience dis-appointment during this

time, do not become frustrated as this could lead to worse situations.

Cancer (Raini Rodriguez): Your work environment is much calmer now than in previous months. You won’t have to stress about work and can focus on having fun. Do not be quick to make plans or decisions without much thought.

Gemini (Cameron Boyce): You will have a lot of en-ergy and cheerfulness during this time. Together, with solid optimism and confidence in your abilities, you will be able to make a change that was greatly desired. You should also be on the lookout for any healthy is-

sues, because danger could come your way any second.

Taurus (Sabrina Carpenter): This moment in your life may be-come significant with critical moments that test the relation-ships that you have with others. What’s of value will survive and will be strengthened. What isn’t will fall apart. Fight for someone or something that you care deeply about.

Aries (Ryland Lynch): Events in your life should become easier to control. You should keep your focus on your family and attempt to build an emo-tionally comfortable and secure environment for this part of your life.

Horoscopes By Ashley

Page 7: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Libra (Maddie Ziegler): Though there have been many complica-tions during the past month, expect events

to resolve themselves. Spend your time working on

things that you need to get done so you may focus on other things in the future.

Scorpio (Riker Lynch): With new experiences, you must learn a lot. If something new is coming up in your life, learn as much as you can about it now so you don’t get flustered when it happens. This time could be very stressful for you so remember to push through.

Sagittarius (Laura Marano): Though this year has not been easy so far, keep being strong and optimistic and you will be fine. Be open to learning new things about yourself and others. Try to sur-round yourself with positive people and take good care of yourself.

Capricorn (Ross Lynch): Both your physical and mental horizons will widen as you increase involvement with oth-ers. Take this time to discover things that you feel the need to. Be certain to stay away from possible dishonest people that could change your perspectives.

Aquarius (Allison Holker): It is impor-tant to fit into a group with which you have common long-term goals and in-terests. Try not to mix different friend groups as this could lead to toxic inci-

dents. This is a pretty ac-tive and favorable year,

but there won’t be and big surprises for you any time soon.

Pisces (Alexa Dowd): Your re-lationships will blossom at this time. You will meet a lot of people that could bring great things for you. Achieving your goals is affected by the way you prepare. Make sure to take all of the nec-essary preparations to ensure that you reach a desired goal.

MARANO W r i t t en by :

Page 9: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Laura Marano. A name everyone now knows and loves because of her success in the entertainment industry. Laura was born on November 25, 1995 to Ellen and Damiano Marano. When she was born her parents didn't know that she was going to be one of the most talented people to come out of the entertainment industry. She started acting a very young age. Her mom, Ellen, was a former actress herself and Laura looked to her mom as a role model for her acting career. When Laura saw her mom participating in group theater performances, she wanted to follow in her footsteps. Her first acting experience was with her older sister Vanessa in the TV show "Without a Trace." The girls stayed together on the show for 3 years until it was cancelled in 2006, but that didn't stop Laura from acting. She continued her acting career for another 10 years until the hit Disney Channel show "Austin and Ally" was let go from

Page 10: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

the networks family. After the best show on Disney Channel ended (needed to add that in there), Laura wanted to pursue a different path in life. A music career. She has always loved music. She played and continues to learn how to play the piano. Ross, Laura's costar even taught her how to play guitar. Laura eventually found a record company who loved her quirky and fun personality and passion. Big Machine Records. Yes, the record label that houses some of the biggest names in music like Rascall Flatts and Taylor Swift. Laura, of course, was excited to be a part of the record label and immediately started getting to work on her first album and single. On March 8th, the singer debuted her single "Boombox" on her radio show called "For the Record." Ever since then the single has been breaking records. Her music video for the song has had over 30 million views on YouTube. The hit song came in at 11# on the Billboard Music Charts. She was named Elvis Duran's Artist of the Month. She performed at the Radio Disney Music Awards as well as the Today show. Even though she has had a lot of success in the entertainment industry, she has always stayed grounded. Her family has helped her stay true to herself

and made sure she wasn't overworked. The 20 year old has made some big impacts on people's lives with her songs and acting. At the R5 Family Magazine, we know that she will continue to do amazing things in her life no matter what path she wants to take. You never know she could be the next big Broadway star or maybe just a lovely mother to a big family in the future. Whatever she chooses to do we will always be big fans of her and support her no matter what.

You can’t deny that R5’s music has changed a lot over the years, but just how much have they changed? In this feature, take a journey through time as each album brings in a new twist to the complex but fascinating musical style completely unique to R5.

Page 14: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Ready Set Rock Era (2009-11)

In the early days of R5, the band’s music had heavy influences from punk-pop bands such as Fall Out Boy, displayed in songs such as “Never”, “Ready Set Rock”, and “Look At Us Now”. These songs were recorded before Ross grew into his voice. As time wore on, more songs started to show signs of being more pop and less punk (but all rock), such as in “Can’t Get Enough Of You” or R5’s rock version of Justin Bieber’s “Love Me”. By the time R5 released “Say You’ll Stay”, most of the band’s punk influences had disappeared, and the band was starting to develop its own unique style.

After Ross was signed on Austin & Ally, R5’s sound adapted to better suit the Disney image. Songs such as “Christmas Is Coming”, “What Do I Have To Do”, and “Crazy 4 U” employ strong bubblegum pop ele-ments and more melodic hooks. On the DL, however, R5 continued to honor the rock and punk-based styles it had started from. These roots are best displayed through unofficial songs such as “DNA” or “Keep Away From This Girl”, which were performed during live shows. They also continued to cover songs such as the controversial “Pour Some Sugar On Me”.

Page 15: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Loud Era (2012) After R5’s talent was recognized, they were signed to Hollywood Records, where they continued to produce the bubblegummy, feel-good pop music that drew influences from other artists from Disney and Holly-wood Records. But instead of settling for fol-lowing trends, R5 created powerful songs backed by strong instrumentation. Each song on the Loud EP had its own influence, whether it was the retro-styled “I Want U Bad” or the anthemic “Loud”. Each song had infectious melodies and killer lyrics. In short: while the punk had sizzled out of R5’s music, it was replaced by smoother har-monies, a cleaner sound, and heavier influ-ences from popular artists.

Page 16: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Louder Era (2013) R5’s first full-length album really ex-panded on the band’s newly-developed sound. Songs like “Ain’t No Way We’re Goin’ Home” were even more powerful than “Loud”, “Pass Me By” builds off the cheerfulness of “Here Comes Forever”, and “Forget About You” borrowed many stylistic elements from “I Want U Bad”. This album perfectly embodies the spirit of pop-rock, the genre that really lifted R5 into fame. However, there are some important ele-ments that set this album apart from Loud: there was more experimentation, and as a result, there was greater diver-sity between songs and a heck of a lot of ornamentation. Guitar solos (like those of “Wishin I Was 23” and “Ain’t No Way We’re Goin Home”) were more frequent, influences from ballads could be found in “One Last Dance”, and techniques were played with, like the unortho-dox vocal performance of the bridge in “Forget About You”. Nothing shows the de-velopment of R5’s mu-sic up to this point better than the studio versions of two previ-ously unpublished songs: “Wishin I Was 23” and “Cali Girls”. Both songs had usually been performed with strong rock elements, but the new versions were more pop and elec-tronic.

Page 17: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

When R5 dropped their next big EP, it brought with them a completely new sound. Their music was less rock than ever and instead drew heavily from popular genres. “Heart Made Up On You” is undeniably inspired by EDM music, “Stay With Me” really brings out the power pop and anthemic styles, “Easy Love” is draws from decade music, and “Things Are Looking Up” resembles upbeat popular songs like “Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons or “Best Day Of My Life” by American Authors. This EP is the most eclectic collec-tion of songs R5 has put out to date.

Heart Made Up On You Era (2014)

Page 18: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Sometime Last Night Era (2015-now)

Page 19: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

R5’s most recent album is unlike any of their albums yet. Springboarding from the success and styles of Heart Made Up On You but still adopting a fresh new sound, this album is innovative and new. Many of R5’s signature pop-rock elements and sto-rytelling techniques are still present, but the lyrics are more edgy and artistic, and the inspiration for the instrumentation combines the classic style of oldies (both rock and pop) with the modern twist found in EDM music. The vocals are as powerful as ever (if not even more so), and this album is filled with more passion than any of its prede- cessors. The melodies are less infectious than downright con- suming, and each song has its own original flavor that is so deliciously R5.

RRROSSOSSOSS Once Austin and Ally filming was over last year, Ross and the whole family went on tour with R5 on their Sometime Last Night tour that lasted for 9 months. In Janu-ary, Ross announced that he would be the voice of Piers in a new ani-mated movie, Snowtime. After re-turning from tour, he took some time off with the rest of the band, and relaxed before his life got crazy again. During this whole time, Ross became even closer to his girlfriend, Courtney Eaton, a model from Australia. Ross, along with Courtney and Olivia Holt, an-nounced that they would be film-ing for a movie called Status Up-date. This movie follows a teen-ager (played by Ross) who, after being uprooted by his parents’ separation and forced to move, stumbles upon a magical app that causes his social media updates to come true. Production is set to be-gin in June in Vancouver.

Even though Austin and Ally has been over for quite some time, the cast now has time to do many other great opportunities for their careers!

Page 22: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

LLLAURAAURAAURA After Austin and Ally ended, Laura has had one thing on her mind: music. With her new record deal with Big Machine Records (the same label as Taylor Swift), she has been working on her music career and finally, in March, released her first single, Boombox. In the music video for the song, she starred with Ken Jeong to create a unique video. Later this year, Laura will release her first album. Laura has also at-tended many music awards shows such as the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Page 23: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

RRRAINIAINIAINI Raini has taken a nice break from acting since Austin and Ally ended. She has spent a lot of time visiting with her family in Bryan, Texas. While back home, she has been supporting many of the Houston sports teams by at-tending the Astros baseball games and Rockets basket-ball games. Raini also has visited New York City and saw many Broadway shows.

CCCALUMALUMALUM After the ending of Austin and Ally, Calum has been helping out with the Climate Reality Project. This project focuses on helping to bring the world to-gether to stop climate change and create a healthy and pros-perous future powered by clean energy. Throughout the past year and a half that Austin and Ally hasn’t been filming, Calum has been supporting his cast mates in their new ventures. He has gone to a few R5 concerts and helped celebrate the launch of Laura’s song, Boombox. He has also gone back home to Canada to visit his family. The game itself can get pretty challenging, along the way. The goal of thegame is to create a certain amount of outfits for Jessie for each level,without filling the entire game board. Each level starts out with a few

clothing items already on the board. Each outfit you create earns you scorepoints, and the score earns you credit points. The credit points are used tobuy items in the game store. For the whole game you get 3 times to use 2different power ups. The powerups are, switch or donate. Each level getsharder and harder because spaces become blocked. The game is fun, but Iwish they featured more characters, like Luke, Emma, Zuri or Ravi, instead of

just Jessie.

The Ross Wrangle

This game is pretty basic. The goal of the game is to score points by findingthe Ross kids in less than 1 minute. So, all you really have to do, is as soon asa picture of the kids (either Emma, Luke, Ravi, or Zuri) pops up behind a pieceof furniture, click on them. But you have to be careful and watch out for theother things/people that pop up, like Bertram, Tony, or Mrs. Kipling. For eachRoss kid you click on, you gain one point, and for all the wrong things youclick on, you lose one point. The game can get a bit fast when everyonestarts popping up everywhere very quickly, but there is currently only 1

level, and it's not really an exciting game, to be honest.

HARUKA'SS KET CHBOOK

Page 31: R5 Family Mag - June 2016 Edition

Haruka. Name meaning? "Distant, remote." But the Japan born girl is anything but "distant." Her Instagram (http.damn.jp) is sitting pretty at almost 2,000 followers. Her drawings have been featured on the R5FamilyArt Instagram page dozens of times and has been liked by the members of R5, and Courtney Eaton. She uses a computer and her love for art to create such original designs. She even has a YouTube channel (hxruka) that teaches her followers how to do what she does best. Haruka would love to continue her love for art in a career. Haruka would love to meet Rydel Lynch and Wesley Stromberg and draw them. So one question you may have is, "why the mystical things around the celebrities heads?" Well that 's just Haruka's personal touch. She loves to draw normal people with fun and cool designs. To her this is abstract and original and that piece of imagination has helped her gain the following she today.

dawnfarer - Repeating Days

“Repeating Days” was always a sweet,calming song, but Dawn’s interpretation of thepiece brings a new layer of authenticity andsimplicity that makes you feel good (punintended) inside. This performance featuressoft and smooth vocals accompanied by anevertheclassic acoustic guitar. To furthercomplement the tone, the video is ingrayscale, reminiscent to R5’s very own “OneLast Dance”. The overall effect? A pleasingperformance achieved with sweet simplicity.

There are some small imperfections: a squeakof the guitar, or a barelyoffkey note, and the prechorus could have used a little more work         to make it flow smoother, but all of these              can be ignored in the grand scheme                  of things. Her interpretation of the                     song is touching, and her vocal                       talent suits the piece perfectly.

The most striking part of the piece                 is how unarguably real it feels.                       Whether it’s the fact that she figured             out the chords by ear, the faint white           noise in the background, or the way her     voice sounds almost like a lullaby, this isdefinitely the type of video that makes youwant to turn everything else off so you cansimply melt into the music and enjoy.

Caitlin McCormick’s cover ofLet’s Not Be Alone Together isspunky, fun, and a little bold. Thevideo features four different screens,each with her performing a differentinstrument (she also plays instrumentsthat don’t appear in the video, like the drums).Despite the obvious challenges with this technique, Caitlin pulls it off anyway.Furthermore, the different tint of each screen mimics the style of the original musicvideo without ripping it off.

Video editing aside, Caitlin manages to set aside from the crowd musically. Whilemost other singers would switch to a falsetto voice for the high notes (or evenperform the entire song in falsetto), Caitlin isn’t afraid to switch pitch at amoment’s notice, even at the risk of coming off a little flat. Her guitarplaying is onpoint, her harmonies melt together perfectly, her voice is clear and powerful, andthe completed sound is satisfying.

Her video has earned her positive reception; One commenter, Jackie, said, “Youare very talented (it runs in the family)!!  I loved all the guitar parts you played andyour crisp, clear vocal.  Great job!” Other comments describe the performance asawesome, brilliant, and amazing.

Overall, the video is very entertaining, strong, and well worth the watch.

Do's and Dont's at an R5 Meet and Greet

I have personally have never been to an R5 M&G, but I have heard ofgood and bad things that have happened, at them and with these few tips

and tricks you're sure to have the best R5 M&G experience!

Don't! I know that you may not be ableto control your emotions whenyou meet your favorite band, butI would suggest trying not to cry.I have heard that if you start

bawling on the spot, to the pointwhere you can't even talk, thesecurity guards, may have toescort you out, and then you

wouldn't get to meet R5, and yourmoney would be wasted.

Be yourself! How ever much youmight want to try and be perfectfor when, you meet them, its okayto be yourself. I've heard that the

band is super sweet andthey definitely will not care whatyou look like, or what your're

wearing. Just go to the M&G andhave a good time, being yourself.

Do!

Do!Take risks! Now by that Idon't mean do somethingtotally crazy, or somethingthat may get you in

between Rydellington, askthem, and they will mostlikely always say yes! Or ifyou want a photo totallydifferent than what I said, just ask them and go for

it!

Don't ask for a selfie withthem. How ever much youwant a selfie with them onyour phone or other

device, don't ask them forone. Being as nice as theyare they'd probably sayyes if you asked, but thephotographers and

accounts on your phone. It'sgoing to feel very rushed ifyou try to do that, and againthe security guards won't bevery pleased. And chancesare that after the big nightthey won't even rememberwhat your username is. Soeven though you want themto follow you so bad, justdon't try to tell/show themyour social media accounts.

It's safer that way.

Bring essentials in line! This maynot have to do with the actualmeet and greet part, but still.Remember to bring water orsnacks while you are waiting inline for the M&G. Chances areyou could be waiting in line fora few hours or more, and youwill get thirsty and hungry. Nowthis may not work depending ifthe venue you are going toallows food or drinks, but trybringing a water bottle to stay

hydrated.

Don't!

Do!"They're, they love their music, and they love whattheir doing, and it's so refreshing to see artists do

that now a days." - Anonymous fan.

"They just rock out, you know. They can be, they canjust go loose, and go crazy, and they can do whatever

they want. And so I'm just like, that's what music'sabout." - Black haired fan with black and white striped

shirt on.

Have fun! I know that this is basically a no brainer, but it'snice to be reminded to have fun! It can be a very

stressful night having to wait in line, and stand for mostof the concert, but just remember that you're meeting

your favorite band, and all should be good.

Do!
